i also dont tag spoilers consistently, so watch out for those too. i stop tagging spoilers when it gets annoying for me lol, but i usually tag them for ~a week after the media is out at the least.

BIRTHDAYYYYYY BTW :3 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 yippee!!!! you are legally mandated to celebrate.
transfem noelle is kinda growing on me as a headcanon because like. im imagining a depressed and dysphoric baby noelle desperate for change, working up the courage to come out only to watch in horror as she slides seamlessly from the "perfect son" to "perfect daughter" role. because at the end of the day, a noelle is just a noelle, regardless of the coat of paint
I've been thinking about this old post of mine, and I'd like to elaborate on it a bit; I'm NOT saying Transfem Noelle is untenable or a stretch. I'm saying that only a specific kind of trans narrative can comfortably fit into her canon life as we know it... it's a "squeeze", rather than a "stretch", if you will.
Warning: Big Post, Deltarune Spoilers, Opinions, The Concept of Transphobia
If Noelle is a trans girl, then she was able to transition very comfortably. Rudy and Dess's dialog can be retroactively interpreted as supportive, and while modern Carol does not inspire the same confidence in me, her obsessive, controlling behaviour has a documented cause in The Dessappearence™, and while I don't trust Asgore's word on a lot...

...I think he's right about Carol. Or rather, he used to be.
There's a fanon interpretation of Carol, I'm sure you've seen it; where her cold and intimidating demeanour conceals a confused (possibly neurodivergent?) but ultimately deeply loving mother. This doesn't quite fit Carol as we see her in Chapter 4, but before she lost her other daughter? I can totally see it. And it would fit the description that comes from Asgore, a man who is famously stuck in the past.
I think this Carol would accept and support Noelle's transition, and would conceptually solidify Noelle as her daughter in her mind long before The Dessappearence™ can render her anathema to change.
You can even tie all of this into Noelle's character arc when you fill in some of the gaps; Noelle being an early bloomer fits the idealised trans narrative, the "Oh, ever since I was four, I've been putting on mummy's dresses and asking to be called Wendy!" stuff. That being Noelle's actual journey ties into her perceived status as the perfect girl: Intelligent, obedient, idealised... and unobtrusive. So when she grows older, and develops in ways that don't match that vision, she suppresses those aspects of herself, consciously or otherwise; her current clothes are chaste and feminine, but she hides her interest in "alternate" fashions, along with her interest in games. After all, why ruin a good thing? After everything her mother's done for her, why mess it up?
Noelle was raised by the internet. She must know how much worse it can get.
I might write a one-off fanfic about this at some point, in a similar vein to "Holes", by one-off fanfic about how much Noelle's life sucks in general (Warning: Hurt-no-comfort), but I hope I've made my point clear enough. Like I said before, you can project your own story onto a character, even if it doesn't make complete sense, and that's great! That's half the appeal of fiction! But if you put in the legwork, and meet the established canon in the middle, you might just find something new. This version of Noelle might not match you or me, but it certainly (In my opinion) matches her.

I’m reading this book about the changing arctic and the author stayed with the Nunamiut people of inland alaska for a while and talked to this high school kid who was like “ugh I hate going to school in the spring I wish I was hunting caribou” and I thought that was charming. you often hear about people who are devoted to preserving their traditional culture and knowledge but it’s rare to hear about someone who’s invested in the old ways out of pure teenage selfishness. school is lame and hunting caribou is awesome
decided it. being #brave and posting an art dump of the stuff I haven't posted since may + one from april. I skipped one part of it because it's just my artfight icons. 18 images under cut (thumbsup)
-asks are on all week; I politely request that if possible, they be prioritized for early submissions of the MBC, to help me not be overwhelmed with organizing it 🙏🏾
-book club post will (hopefully) go out on Wednesday, early morning Thursday at the latest!!
