Re: “the Jews aren’t a race”: y'all can’t have it both ways. You can’t racialize Jewish people for *millennia* and then turn around and act like we’re just like you as soon as you get uncomfortable.
I identify as white because I benefit from white privilege and that’s the most important thing, but I never forget that my whiteness is conditional, that my family and I were never white until the day we set foot in the United States (and even then only because we entered it during the right decade). Y'all didn’t have a problem with Jews being a separate race when you were busy keeping us out of schools and workplaces using quotas, sooo. My parents’ classmates back in Russia didn’t have a problem with it when they were hurling racial slurs, either.
You don’t get to racialize our physical features, our personalities, every aspect of us and then get upset that we see ourselves as different. I’m quite aware exactly which parts of my body are supposedly ugly by mainstream white standards because y'all didn’t let me escape elementary school without knowing it. I know what I’m supposed to shave, pluck, straighten, hide. I know which parts of my personality are too Jewish. I know what “confirms the stereotypes.”
The reason (other) white people want to see Jews as white is because they want us to help them prop up white supremacy and because they don’t want to have to think about what they fucking did. It’s sad how many Jews fall for that, but plenty of us don’t.
