Neil josten:
never not thinking about neil josten.
Your quality of life will increase ten-fold when you learn to appreciate the sight of a little bird
"Just because I'm right, doesn't mean I'm being helpful" is a vastly underrated thought process that I strongly encourage others to get comfortable with
i think ultimately you do really have to kill that part of your brain that vividly imagines how you would redo parts of your life.
nonchalance turns me off so badly. give me obsession on the brink of depravity or give me nothing
just found out you can do more than one thing each day. i was just doing the one
don’t abandon joy because it is brief. don’t commit to solitude because happiness is fleeting. it’s okay that good things do not last forever. it’s okay to simply enjoy a thing for as long as you have it.
From the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Handbook [pdf]
Andrew Minyard heard the phrase “madly in love” and thought, “Yeah, I’m mad that I’m in love with him. Look at him. He’s not house-trained and the mafia is after him.”
the trial and andrew's testimony would be public record which is devastating and would reveal information about andrew and the things he's been through to people who have no right to know. it would be circulated way more than most trials bc it involves collegiate athletes and specifically the foxes. but that means it would also reach kids like andrew.
i genuinely wonder what andrew's reaction would be when a foster kid comes up to him after a game, or makes him a sign, or writes him a letter telling him that he is why they had the courage to speak up about what was happening to them.
he doesn't want to be someone's role model. he testified, not for himself or kids like him, but for aaron. but that doesn't change the fact that he would be put in a position to be a kid's role model or inspiration. that doesn't change the fact that somewhere a kid is saving up to buy his jersey bc, to them, andrew is their hero.
i don't think that's a bad thing, and i think, kids finding strength because of him, might help Andrew come to terms with the knowledge being out there
To change his perspective on it
He isn't weak now that they know, not with all the others looking to him as a role model, as a pillar of strength, he's someone who was in a bad situation and he got himself out and then he had the courage to speak up to help someone else
He's never really been a monster, he's the thing monsters are scared of, people who won't be quiet any more

“This is my family. I found it all on my own. It’s little, and broken, but still good.”
