Meet 17 year old Laura; today’s subject in my 365 day project.
With her brightly coloured hair (which she changes once or twice a month) and attention grabbing vintage dresses, she’s certainly not one to miss.
Laura works full time at upstaged vintage near the corn exchange, where I met her today handing out flyers.
She moved out of home aged 16 and explains that although it was a scary move at such a young age, as soon as she left, her relationship with her mother got much stronger. She now lives in a 3 bed house with her friend Dara and a street cat they found named ‘baby cat’.
Away from work Laura likes travelling to different city’s and has big things to say about Huddersfield. “Its bigger than you think its gonna be, the charity shops are much better, there’s Huddersfield market and lots of vintage shops” which are perfect for finding clip on earrings to add to her ‘hideous collection’.
She is currently saving up for a festival in Blackpool which falls on her 18th birthday. However she would also like to save up to travel further and see European cities such as Amsterdam.

Yellow and Black Check Dress with Velvet Collar
by Rodney
£79.99 UK P&P: £4.95 Size: 10-12
Circa: 1948
What a fabulous example of late 1940's fashion, with more than a hint of the 'New look' inspired by Christian Dior in the post war period. There are no fabric labels but this bright window pane check fabric feels like a wool/cotton mix and without being too heavy, it is an autumn-winter weight dress with long sleeves and black silk velvet collar, cuffs and pocket trim. It also includes its original matching fabric-covered belt. The padded shoulders and tapered skirt will transform you into a sophisticated true vintage woman and works just as well if you prefer a more modern, stylish vintage look. Modelled here by Laura, who has 5'4" with 32D bust, 27" waist and 32" hips and wears a modern day Size 10. This fitted her comfortably, the belt was fastened tightly with a little room to spare. Ideal for a UK 12. It is wise when buying vintage to check the measurements below against a garment you already know fits you well. Laid flat the dress itself measures - Bust - 20" from underarm to underarm Waist - 16" from seam to seam Hips - 22" from seam to seam Length - 30" from waistline to hemline Sleeves - 19" underarm seam.

Victorian Velvet Bodice
Star Product! £125.00 UK P&P: £5.95 Size: 4-6 Circa: 1898
A beautiful example of a Victorian silk bodice, somewhere between a jacket and a blouse. The main body and the sleeves are made from silk velvet with silk taffeta trimmings, including the fabulous shoulder panels. Trimmed with jet beads around the neckline of which only 7 are missing. The cuffs are finished with some fine elaborate hand-made lace with glass beads which is perishing in places and there is more lace dangling from the cuffs, which we believe has been added at a later date and which is in a sorry state. We recommend you remove this addition but prefer to leave these decisions up to you. Fastens with 11 jet buttons, all of which are original, none are missing. The body was originally boned, possibly with whale bones but the internal ribbons which held the bones in place have also perished and therefore the bones are missing. Although clearly not pristine it is still in remarkably good condition for its age. And totally wearable, if you are small enough. In mint condition this would be a museum piece worth over £1000 so this is a nice piece to start off or add to a collection. Bust - 28" from underarm to underarm Waist - 26" from seam to seam Length - 19" from neckline to hem down the back Photography: Brittanie Seaton Model: Izzie May
