Welcome to the USS Muñiz! We are a questioning system! I’ll be letting my headmates here man the con over this blog! And yes, this is a Star Trek themed blog :) the system’s name (that we know of, there may be more than one) is USS Muñiz after the late Ensign Enrique Muñiz, he’s the first time we saw a Latine character like us in Trek, so we’re honoring him this way! This format helps us make sense of things since Star Trek is our special interest.

We’ve been plural since childhood as a result of CSA/incest and other ✨ chronically occurring traumatic events ✨ Many of us originated that way, but we don’t know if we all did, as we’re still figuring ourselves out. We are still figuring out how many of us there are, and we may have more than one system

Here’s our positionality:

Queer/nblw, lesbian-adjacent given my prior identification and experiences as a nonbinary lesbian/sapphic, but not lesbian identified. Good faith questions are welcome, but I will not tolerate anyone telling me how to identify ⛔️

1.5 gen Mexican American immigrant 🇲🇽

As many (but not all) Mexicans are, I am mestize. My native ancestry comes from the P’urhépecha on my father’s side, and my mother’s side is detribalized. I acknowledge my home country is a settler colonial state, and I have 0 tolerance for anti-indigeneity. As an indigenous descendant I will not tolerate any BS of the sort 🤺

Physically disabled (mind your business) and neurodiverse (autism/ADHD/OCD, and a lovely cocktail of mental illnesses)

Intersex/interhormonal (again, mind your business)

Plus size, and idgaf if you don’t like that

No discourse (yes, that includes syscourse and truscum vs tucute shit, coming from a certified 2016 Tumblr era tucute veteran) of any kind on this page, EVER. One thing is to have a polite conversation, the other is to harass me and use my trauma against me during discourse. United we stand, or not at all.

Last night as I was drifting off to sleep, I suddenly remembered Google+

I remembered when in 2013 you were required to have a Google+ account in order to comment on youtube videos.

I remembered Google bragging how it was one of the fastest growing social media platforms, but again, this was inflated numbers because people needed to get Google+ if they wanted to access their gmail accounts (and again, youtube comments)

If we can kill Google+ by sheer apathy and continued refusal to use it, we can do the same with all these AI companies trying to force it down our throats.

Continue clicking Not Interested in the AI search prompts. Continue scrolling past AI ads without a second thought. Continue resisting AI at every turn. We defeated things like this before and we can do it again.

I’d like to take this time to remind everyone that self diagnosis is valid. One because we are living in fucking fascism and many people either don’t have health insurance or if they do, can’t afford to go to the doctor. We spent over sixty fucking dollars on groceries just for ourselves, one body, the other week. That’s nearly double what we were paying two years ago. Demanding everyone go get a diagnosis is so fucking classist.

Two, we’re a prime fucking example that self diagnosis can be right. We suspected for years and got involved in the system community and faced tons of backlash and people being terrible, just to finally get insurance and seek medical help for it and be told by our mental health team that we have DID. We were right. We always had been. Our roadblock was just the fucked up system.

Mental health professionals are fucking human and can be fucking biased. As someone who works in mental health, everyone in this line of work is either fantastic or literally the spawn of Satan and there’s no in between. Some people get into it for a manipulative power kick. Some people genuinely don’t care about doing their job and don’t want to be scrutinized by colleagues and supervisors and don’t care what that means for you, being ignored and unhelped and very potentially misdiagnosed and improperly medicated, which can be dangerous and highly traumatic.

Are you going to foot the bill of people going to get help? Are you going to network for good therapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists? Are you going to comfort them after they have a bad session? Are you going to even hear them out?

No? Then shut the fuck up.

Plurality, as conceptualized in peer-reviewed research:

Plurality, often also called multiplicity, is "having more than one self in the mind and body" (Eve & Parry, 2021).

Plurality "is not a diagnosis" (Eve, et al., 2023) and is "a broader concept than DID" (Christensen, 2022).

Plurality is "a broad term, which encompasses a range of experiences" because "people have individual conceptualizations of what it means to be ‘more than one’" (Eve, et al., 2023).

Plurality is "a term coined to be more inclusive than only that of traumagenic multiplicity" (Christensen, 2022).

Not all people who experience plurality will identify as a 'plural' or 'multiple.' Plurality is a useful umbrella term for the experience of more-than-oneness "but not necessarily a term reflective of one's identity or self-expression" (Christensen, 2022).

"[N]ot everyone who identifies as multiple will want or require mental health intervention for the condition they experience" (Eve, et al., 2023).

The concept of non-traumagenic plurality does not hurt DID research. "[T]he research confirming DID as a trauma-based disorder is doing just that: confirming traumagenic DID, the disorder, not Plurality, the identity . . . Distinguishing between the two does not need to invalidate either" (Christensen, 2022).

The idea that plurality is inherently disordered is a product of Western culture. "Within Western linear frameworks . . . there has been an emphasis on the ‘healthy self’ being integrated and whole" (Eve & Parry, 2021). "In indigenous cultures, esp. shamanic societies, a polypsychism (i.e. many selves) prevails" (Scharfetter, 2008).

Fakeclaiming and anti-endo / anti-plural rhetoric is traumatizing. "[H]aving a condition such as multiplicity that is not generally validated and recognised in a community can be, in itself, traumatic. Even if trauma does not precede the development of multiplicity, trauma-informed care would still be appropriate for many young people who seek help for multiplicity" (Parry, et al., 2021).

Some reminders incase you've forgotten...

★ Every System is UNIQUE

No two systems have to be the same or WILL be the same. Plurality is a huge spectrum like many other things and will forever be beautiful no matter how it is experienced.

★ There is NO Correct Way To Be A System

No matter how you're a system, or what you do as a system, there is no one correct way to be a system. Ramble about your alters, list all of your fictives and display your system members if that makes you happy. No one can dictate what is and isn't the correct way of being a system.

★ All Origins are VALID

No matter how your system or alters formed, you are valid. You split from trauma? Your trauma is valid and you will be able to work through it. You willed your system? That's awesome! Happy you choose that. You split from stress? It'll be okay. No matter how your system formed, it'll be valid no matter what. We can not stress this enough that all plurality is beautiful and valid! And it's important to acknowledge this no matter how you became a system.
