takehiko's eyes fall to the fire; absently does she lift the fish to her mouth once more & take a bite… another… and chew each quietly when naruto speaks. there's a subtle haze that moves across her eyes / not dissimilar to morning's fog in kumogakure; the clouds could quietly absorb each building before one could fully realize what was happening. the natural phenomena could swallow the village whole in a matter of minutes, yet everyone (from new genin to seasoned elders… nobody could put themselves beyond the will of the world) would swear it had happened in a blink.
-- that is how quickly as the distance in her expression enters, settles, and dissipates.
"matatabi didn't want this, though." admission's whispered quietly / the saviour's age & experience is enough for him to understand her transparency may be viewed as treachery by some. "she was drained from the war, still, when my bullheaded cousin -" of some degree, that is ultimately what the raikage was, "- led an elite unit of jounin to where our sensors had last detected matatabi's lingering essence. all the while, kept it secret from bii 'cause he would've opposed it."
the skewer in her hand is rotated, and in three rapid ( large ) bites, takehiko consumes the remaining edible portions of the fish. the remnants are tossed within the flames to return to ash. she's quiet, chewing while her words begin to take root.
"he wasn't gonna take 'no' for an answer, so, she only 'agreed' -" the word's growled with reluctance, "- on the circumstance she wouldn't be sealed into a child once again, as she was with yuugito no kimi. it laid all jounin's souls bare; judged each of them without mercy and stripped away the essence of each person 'til who they were at their core was all that remained..."
takehiko's legs uncross, allowing an elbow to hook against its same side's knee, "... the only thing that was matatabi's full choice was me, and even then it wasn't easy to learn how to work with her. took me three years 'cause the 'me' she was willing to work with was the 'me' she saw in my soul, not the 'me' i was at the time." she sighs somewhat, only to feel the bijuu's amused purr in the lower recesses of her consciousness.
"i know she wants to be free. i know she wants to walk with the spirit of the earth, and fears humans for this very reason," a hand lifts to the placement of her seal, "but... i don't want to die prematurely, and she's not willing to kill me. best i can do is promise her to live in seclusion leading up to my expiration, so that she may avoid being hunted outright."
