literally….the idea that having your father’s last name is ~just as bad~ as having your husband’s last name has always been wacky as hell to me because regardless of where it came from, that’s the name I’ve been called since birth. it’s not any less “my” name than it is my brother’s name just because I’m female. I reject the idea that I don’t truly belong to my family of origin just because of my gender. If anything, that reinforces the idea of daughters as expendable possessions to be sold into marriage.
and it’s not that there’s no valid critique to be made of patronymic traditions, but it should be obvious why many women prefer to keep the identity they were born with instead of taking on their husband’s identity upon marriage. It’s almost like we have decades of life experiences, relationships, and self-conception tied to our names.

So peaceful Souvenir. A brother singing ancient Andalusian song in Al-hambra palace.
Unmute
The right amount of melancholy
This is one of my most favorite Andalusian muwashahat (an Arabic poem that’s specifically written to be sung). It was written in the 3rd century by an Arab poet from Granada, so it’s not very far fetched that the song has been sung at some point in that very palace centuries ago.
These are the lyrics in Arabic and English, in case anyone’s interested.
When he appeared with a sway in his walk My darling infatuated me with his beauty Oh, my fate and my confusion Who will have mercy on me when I complain Of anguish in love Except for the holder of beauty?
لما بدا يتثنى حبي جماله فتننا وعدي و يا حيرتي من لي رحيم شكوتي فى الحب من لوعتي إلا مليك الجمال
I was wondering why it sounded so familiar. I think Myriam Fares sampled(?) it about 10 years ago.
no joke i've seen plenty of lefties call aborting after a down syndrome test "genocide" and "eugenics" and post shit like "imagine if my mom aborted me just because i was autistic.....#SoSad" like there is definitely a wider discussion to be had about destigmatizing developmental disabilities and neurodivergence but truly shocking that the conclusion they come to is to force people to give birth. or at the very least guilt them into it
having audio processing issues is so humiliating like yeah i heard you and yeah i was actively listening but the problem is i dont know what the fuck you sayed
i was paying attention, i was listening, but you see the problem is....it didnt work

Tips about sewing?
I really want to get into sewing but I don’t know where to start does anyone have any tips for beginners like me?
I recommend trying to “clone” clothes that you already own and love. There are some good tutorials for this on YouTube but it basically involves laying the garment on paper or fabric and tracing out each panel before sewing them together.
-Try to start out with more rectangular shapes to learn the basics.
-Don’t ignore notches (the little triangles) on patterns. They help you match up edges. You can also add them when making your own patterns.
-Iron, iron, iron. It’s non negotiable. Your projects will come out looking more professional and it will make sewing up seams and darts easier.
- You don’t need to buy a bunch of fancy gadgets but new thread (<4 years old) and swapping machine needles for every project will take you a long way. Do invest in a new pair of shears that are only for fabric.
-Try out some finishing techniques that seal your raw edges like French seams, rolled hems, and felled seams. You don’t need to use a serger. I always use French seams, personally
-if you’re mainly machine sewing, learn some hand sewing. It’s useful for a lot of things and sometimes you just need that precision.
For tutorials, I really like Anna The Tailor, Cornelius Quiring, and Annika Victoria (no longer active) on YouTube.
That’s all I can think of right now.

we’re smoking that shit that came from the hand of the sinner to bring forth the seeds of the dead to share with the worms that gather in the darkness and surround the world with the power of their lives while from the dimlit halls of other places forms that never were and never could be writhe for the impatience of the few who never saw what could have been
