Eros and psyche klance my beloved
what are some fun facts about the rewrite that you can share with us?
Oughhh some fun facts...
Adam was disabled in life, we use him and Shiro as chewtoys representing two opposing views on their own disabilities!
Keith is actually the least annoyed with Slav at any given point in time
Pidge had way too many movies downloaded onto their laptop when they all went to space, so the team have movie nights very regularly
Hunk's paladin armor is based mostly off of field medics and mechanic suits
Also his real first name is Siaoshi
Narti is deafblind!
Shiro's prosthetic arm was melded to his flesh, which is why he never takes it off to sleep or anything. He physically can't.
The Mer are fucking terrifying even to me
Lance continues as a pilot and does not become a fucking farmer
rip lance you wouldve loved 6 7 memes
i know if keith was a dancer he’d never do something like modern or hip hop or even jazz, he’d be strictly ballet. he would take it so seriously too
imagine keith being the only male dancer a studio has and everyone has a crush on him but he’s gay as hell
First time drawing mermaids since 2021 probably and I made 6 consecutive drawings. Kicked artblocks ass 😎 I’m so cool
The gang as mermaids because mermaids are so pretty and I wanted to draw lance as a mermaid. Because Lance is pretty 😀
(Also, lance is telling Keith that she’s the best swimmer in the history of ever 😝 )
thinking about this old tweet abt will solace
What would you say the biggest differences between canon and your rewrite are? I'm absolutely obsessed with this so far, I'm so excited to see where this ends up!!
*CLAPS* Okay, many many changes, but the biggest?
1.) The PACING
In our humble opinions, most of why VLD got so bad (affectionate) was it's horrible pacing. They expand on very few things while continuously opening new plot threads to half-hazardly close. The earliest example of the pacing changes is that it takes most of our equivalent of season one to find the lions and properly bond with them, rather than just the first two (or four if you count e1 as three episodes).
2.) The LIONS
We just like. Completely retconned the lions' lore, in that they're no longer created by Alfor and have been a legend for far, far longer. They also serve more of a purpose in the narrative, going hand-in-hand with the paladins' character arcs and helping to facilitate them.
And also they, uh, they turn into actual lions during downtime. Or at least lion-like beings, but yeah. Green lays in Pidge's lap while she codes, Keith and Red battle train together, Yellow's like that dog that's somehow always sleeping right where you need to step, that kind of stuff.
3.) The PLOT
We've switched around a lot of the plot, taking the eight season structure and only really following a handful of canon plot points. I think this kind of goes with the pacing changes, but it is still a significant difference. For example: Season 8's plot? Gone. Nowhere to be seen.
The altean colony plot? Changed. Oriande and the Quantum Abyss? More important. Lotor's just entirely different. There's only like one or two plot points that came out fully unscathed, if any.
4.) The focus on the WAR
Despite all our posts about the characters and arcs, a big part of Project: Cosmic Dust is the war. Not just the big space battles and off-handed mission mentions, but the small devastations of war as well. The propaganda, the loss, the complexities on every side. Representing how war affects and impacts the civilians, not just the soldiers, is very important to us. It's also a big lesson Allura has to learn throughout.
I think those are the four biggest differences to canon and generally encompass everything we're trying to do here!
is the Garrison more or less the same as canon?
The Garrison in canon is... a lot of a mess. It's a military base, a space exploration program, and also seemingly a specialized boarding school for *checks notes* 14-18 year olds.
In Cosmic Dust it has more of a structure, the Galaxy Garrison is a research facility and a training facility for teens hoping to go into various fields for NASA. Because it is a subsect of NASA, shocking I know. All the kids, yes including the pilots, are absolute nerds. They study astronomy, physics, astrophysics, aerodynamics, all that fun stuff.
Then of course are the pathways students could take, the ones the story's mostly concerned with (because of the paladins) being communications technicians, engineers, cargo pilots, and fighter pilots.
Cargo and fighter are holdover labels from when the world still had Wars happening frequently (the way canon ignores exploring how a society who thinks they've finally gotten rid of war would react to being invaded and instead goes "teehee usual military stuff!" is lowkey infuriating), but have taken on a less battle-focused meaning instead.
Fighter pilots are the ones piloting spaceships and aircrafts that need to be nimble. They're most used to low-weight, low-capacity ships. On Earth their jobs are less shooting things and more investigative, they run scans of the earth, collect samples, "smaller" things that can realistically run with only three crewmates. On space missions, they're the first ships to go anywhere. They scout out, get small samples and readings of what we're dealing with, and are usually the first to see any new discoveries.
Cargo pilots are the ones piloting spaceships and aircrafts that are high-weight and high-capacity. They (along with their crew) are the resource gatherers, the ones who stay on planets for research and testing, never the first to be sent out but usually the ones to stay the longest. They're distinctly not considered a "second class pilot", just a different specialty. On Earth their jobs tend to be porting resources that would be too difficult to travel by land from one base to the other. Most Cargo ships need a large crew to make sure everything is operating correctly.
Students are dormed two to a dorm, and most teachers live on-campus.
The Garrison only returns to being a military base when the Galra invade earth, before that it was decades of a space exploration base. It had remnants of the military in it, but its ultimate purpose was created for space exploration.
Oh also it's in Texas fuck you canon how would Keith get from Arizona to his childhood home in Texas in one night
Cosmic dust text posts but it's JUST lance
More project cosmic dust text posts, today's victims: Pidge and Matt
YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
dip her in the sands of time! and dig her up in 3.2million yearS!
hey girl!
She fell off tbh
Talk about Lucy like that again I will beat your fucking skull in with simplistic and likely unaltered stone tools
ngl a thing that I love about hobie and how he's represented is how KIND and NICE he is with miles above anything, he truly embrace the meaning of being a punk beyond aesthetics, and that's fucking lovely, a thing I always had in my mind about being punk is that being punk is being gentle with the ones at our side, because the establishment is already putting ours against each other. So yeah, spiderpunk rules, and rules with supporting his owns.
You ask the Spiders how they identify and Hobie immediately goes on a ten minute rant about how labels are a repressive sociological construct he refuses to recognize. Then Gwen's like "Well, uh, I'm a trans girl." and Hobie's like "Fuck yeah you are! Love that for you."
"Christ on a cracker" well actually I think you'll find Christ is the cracker. And also the wine. But you wouldn't know that you fucking protestant heathen
it's all be gay do crime and eat the rich until the rich actually get eaten and then suddenly it's nooo don't be cruel human life is precious 🥺🥺 these are people who have never been in touch with human life and thus i am unable to view them as anything but a fascinating story and a major L in return. stupid games stupid prizes and so on
