Poll: if your mom remarries when youāre 26 years old is that guy still your stepdad or is he just your momās husband.
The poll winner seems to be ādepends on whether you like himā which is super valid.
Mine watches fox news so āmomās husbandā it is!
My family has a great way of distinguishing between a new spouse you like and new spouse you disdain!
Your mom/aunt/grandma/etc remarries and they are actually a cool person, you use their first name. So if you were to introduce them they would be: Aunt Jane and Bob.
If your mom/aunt/grandma/etc remarries and they are a fuckwad you introduce them as: this is Aunt Jane and her second husband. The implication being that they are very replaceable and that weāre all just waiting for her to wise up to the situation and serve you divorce papers, she did it once, she can do it again.
MAGNIFICENT
Alright, but what if my mom on her third marriage found a decent man, but my mother herself is shitty

I think my favorite jokes are the ones that werenāt even all that funny until I was an adult, and now theyāre fucking hilarious. Iām not even talking about the dirty jokes. Iām talking about in Finding Nemo where the sharks are having fucking AA for fish eating. Remember that shit? āI am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself.ā Who ever thought of that? That was brilliant. Or what about that time in Shrek 2 where Shrek and Donkey infiltrate the castle pretending to be union workers? Little me didnāt give a shit about unions but big me is remembering Shrek going āItās okay buddy, weāre from the unionā and the desk worker secretively āwe donāt even have dental,ā and Shrek just shakes his head and looks at Donkey like he canāt believe this shit and goes, āThey donāt even have dental.ā What the fuck. Iām dying of laughter. Who comes up with this shit.
Pssst
Hey, are you an artist or writer with WIPs?
Come here... I got a secret for you pssst come āere
waiting in deep suspense
Psst you ready here comes the secret
Here it comes
I am also very curious about this secret
Your time spent enjoying the creative process is infinitely more valuable that any final project you create. So stop putting yourself down for never finishing or posting those WIPs because every moment you spent creating something you loved is a moment not wasted. Your progress and talent is measured by your passion not your number of posts.
This post went from 3k to 7k overnight and that just goes to show how many of you need to hear this so make sure you donāt ever forget it
The Gimli Glider! So many things came together to make this safe landing:
The co-pilot was a local and knew all the local airstrips
...including the decommissioned 10,000 foot military runway they ultimately chose as their destination
...but because it had been decommissioned, was now utilized by a local go-kart club for racing
...which, on that day, was indeed having a great time racing go-karts on the old runway
...and because there was no way to alert the people on the ground and the planeās approach was utterly silent (NO ENGINES) with kids in go-karts were whizzing around on the runway, the final approach was, shall we say, alarming
...until a parent looked up and noticed a giant fucking airplane getting bigger and bigger
OH GOD HEāS LANDING HERE
Thus within seconds the whole area was cleared by frantic parents
Plane lands perfectly, but without power they had to drop the gear via gravity and the nose wheel failed to lock into place
Front gear collapses
Plane screeches to a halt, and because they landed at a go-kart event pretty much every dad has a fire extinguisher, so they manage to extinguish the small fire caused by friction
The only minor injuries were due to passengers jumping from the emergency exit slides, which dangled off the ground due to elevated tail height
If you have 27 spare minutes and want an excruciatingly detailed, technical breakdown of what happened as told by a real pilot, hereās the Mentour Pilot episode on the Gimli Glider.
I read an article about this back around 1990 and my favorite part was that, after landing and stopping, the pilots were reflexively going through the ācrash landingā checklist, shutting down all the fuel pumps and lines to prevent a fire from spreading, until it dawned on them halfway through that they didnāt need to do those steps because the tanks were quite empty.
Normal Horoscope:
Aries: You have nearly reached your weekly allotted trundling quota. Go easy on the trundling until Monday.
Taurus: Do you see the things bursting from the cracks? The things that seek sunlight of no accord but their own? Your skin is your own prison but dammit it is yours.
Gemini: Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, fuck up anyway and make something up on the fly.
Cancer: Be the change you want to see in the world, the words wont write themselves. Eventually they will though, and youāll get to see them consume everything in your path, leaving the earth bare and salted.
Leo: It doesnāt matter what you pick but goddammit you have to be somethingĀ with your entire heart.
Virgo: Paper thin slightly curved panes of glass, layered atop each other as to only barely touch in specific places. The engravings are so fine it would take a lifetime to unravel their meaning.
Libra:Ā After a bloodhound is rendered harmless, it can be safely disassembled for use. Remember: Blind, disable, repurpose.
Scorpio: It bleeds flower petals that harden into sharp scarlet scales. Every scar becomes a razor.
Ophiuchus: There are things that simply cannot be taught. They can only be learned firsthand. Those who have the knowledge understand its importance. Watch how inane advice becomes important.
Sagittarius: Memory weighs down the flow of time like rocks in a stream. Enough rocks in the wrong place can make reality flow back in on itself.Ā
Capricorn: Answer the Door.
Aquarius: You have time on your side, your possessions do not. Things rot.Ā
Pisces: Let your mind rest, there will be plenty of time to use it. For now things need space to replenish.Ā
Those trending posts about dragon taxonomy annoy me because when you come right down to it, what we call ādragonsā are a bunch of essentially unrelated critters from entirely disconnected folkloric traditions that have been smooshed together under the same category ā mostly by tabletop RPG writers ā on no firmer basis than the fact that theyāre all at least vaguely lizard-shaped.
In practice, nearly all of the terms that are being tossed about as describing this or that very specific variety of ādragonā would have been used to describe many different mythical critters in different times and places ā and conversely, the exact same mythical critter might historically have been referred to by any or all of those names. Heck, the beasties that historically were actually called ādragonsā by their originating cultures typically bear very little resemblance to what a ādragonā looks like in contemporary popular media. When was the last time you encountered a fictional dragon that had strong opinions about elephants?
Basically, any time somebody gets on your case about what is and is not a ādragonā, the only proper response is to hit them with an anthropology textbook.
Letās take a popular example from those posts: āwyvernā.
Everybody knows a wyvern is a dragon with wings in place of its forelegs, as opposed to the more common four-legs-and-wings body plan, right?
Well, not exactly.
In heraldry (that is, in coats of arms and shields and such), the term āwyvernā is sometimes used to distinguish between two-legged and four-legged dragons, with wyverns being the former. However, there isnāt a great deal of consistency regarding what a ātwo-legged dragonā means. Heraldic wyverns variously appear with hind legs and wings; with a limbless, snake-like lower body and an upper body possessing both forelegs and wings; or as two-legged snakes with no wings at all.
Further, this distinction is largely idiosyncratic to the United Kingdom; the heraldry of most other European nations does not observe a strict distinction, and a heraldic dragon may have any number of limbs, including no limbs whatsoever.
Meanwhile, the word āwyvernā is merely a corruption of the Old English for āvenomous snakeā, with some sources speculating that the term may have become associated with dragons via the poetic device of describing hurled javelins as flying snakes.
And of course, outside of heraldry the distinction isnāt consistently observed even by those cultures whose heraldic traditions do differentiate the two; some folklorists argue that the key distinction between a dragon and a wyvern in folklore isnāt the number of its limbs, but the shape of its tail!
On the flip side, defining ādragonsā as having four legs and wings doesnāt work either, as many folkloric dragons ā even from those cultures that make the dragon/wyvern distinction in their heraldry ā are described simply as big snakes, with no particular complement of legs.
Like, morphology-based phylogeny doesnāt even work for real, existing animals. Itād be very surprising if it worked for fictitious ones!
