In the time that he had not seen her-since the morning he had stomped out of her sister’s living-room, having made his proposition-he had lost details of her. His memory served to make up new ones, to round off the angles, to bridge the gaps. Yet, some things he did remember with certainty: the petulant, angry mouth; the clipped words she threw at him, like stones; the stormy dark of her eyes. Oh, those eyes. They made his blood boil. He wondered what it would feel like to have those eyes look at him with favor, with desire-such thoughts threw him into a veritable frenzy; and so he banished them. I am mad, he thought; she had shown no partiality for me, no interest.

JULY 4, 1904: Dueling Tournament Permits Females To Compete

For the first time in over 100 years, Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands' Dueling Tournament has opened their registration to female competitors. No news on how many women have signed up yet for tonight's dangerous festivities. Dragonologist and person-of-interest Harvey Ridgebit was seen in the store earlier today, as well as Sirius, Phineas and Arcturus Black in the afternoon. We are unaware if the Black brothers were entering the competition or simply browsing the wands. Their father and present Hogwarts master became a champion of this esteemed tournament in 1833.

The competition will begin punctually as the clock strikes Midnight in the back lot of Diagon Alley. Guests are advised to leave their children at home as such an event goes on until sunrise.

Rules:

All players must bow at open and close of a match.

Players are not allowed to physically touch each other.

Excessive force with the intention to seriously injure is not allowed.

Disarming and stunning are boring to watch. Be creative!

JULY 3, 1904: Big Day For Bulstrode

After weeks of speculation we can confirm that Miss Violetta Bulstrode will be debuting into society on Saturday, July 23th. At the discretion of the family, we were asked to keep the location of her ball private. The Bulstrodes--being one of the finest Pureblood families in London--are notoriously exclusive about their social engagements much like their friends, the Malfoys. Miss Bulstrode will be entering her 6th year in September at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The young Slytherin is not noted to be courting anyone at the present time. 

"Of course, it is any father's wish for their daughter to do well in their marriage." Mr Bulstrode replied when we asked for a comment on the news. "I can only hope that her future husband will love her as much as I do."

Miss Bulstrode did not return our inquiries for an interview about her big day, but we hope she will grace our cover for the August issue of Vanity Witch. We know it will be her dream come true!

JULY 2, 1904: Spark of vampire activity in wizarding london?

Rumors have been circulating since late last night that our great country is hosting vampires unlawfully. More than half of the blood supply at Hogsmeade Hospital was reported stolen. If the vampire or vampires had registered with the Ministry of Magic, their meals and needs would have been regulated. As the Ministry is unclear if we should be threatened or not by this spark of activity, everyone should take extra precaution walking around at night. If you happen to live in the Hogsmeade area, you are advised to stay inside and do not open your door to anyone until this matter concludes. It is possible there are no longer vampires in the area, but we would rather you be safe than sorry. If your friend is a skeptic of vampires, do your best to convince to come inside with you.

GOSSIP: ARCTURUS BLACK ON THE PROWL? 

Several of our readers have tipped us off to the middle Black's current search for Miss Hesper Starky. Starky, a single lady and also a potioneer, was recently spotted back in town from her journey abroad. Starky is notoriously a recluse, which makes us all wonder what she could have done to catch this eligible bachelor's attention.

SCANDAL: JUNE 29, 1904, SHOP VANDALIZED

Miss Sacharissa Tugwood’s shop in Diagon Alley was met with a disastrous tragedy. Reports are coming in that the popular shop owner discovered early this morning that her shop had been broken into. Only shards remained of the shop's main windows and most of her inventory had been stolen. The single businesswoman was unavailable for comment to our reporters, but we can imagine it will take her weeks -possibly months- to recover the funds to reopen this high ticket location. The Ministry will not comment on their investigation of this case. One can only hope the looter will be brought to swift justice.

EVENT: JULY 2, 1904: THE PERSEID SUITE 

Renowned composer Alisdair Fermata will debut his Perseid Suite, performed by the Ministry Philharmonic Orchestra in the gardens at the Minister’s Estate. The highlight of a performance will be a half-hour grand finale featuring exotic fireworks. The public is welcome but should arrive early to secure best choice of seat. Those who will be attending as guests in the Minister’s Terrace, of course, need not concern themselves.

Why the long face, Belvina Black? Recently home from Hogwarts, Miss Black was spotted walking alone in her family’s gardens looking none-too-pleased. Perhaps she was cross with younger brother Cygnus after his daring, dangerous, and ultimately victorious entry in the Winged Horse Races? Or has Miss Black just rejected another would-be suitor? Despair not, gentlemen, the season is young!

EVENT: JULY 1, 1904: MINISTER OF MAGIC ANNOUNCES MINISTER’S CUP CHARITY QUIDDITCH MATCH 

His Excellency the Minister of Magic has announced the inaugural Minister’s Cup Charity Quidditch match, to benefit the St. Mungo’s Victims Families Fund. For the Minister’s Cup, His Excellency will choose a special Quidditch team to oppose a team chosen by that year’s guest opponent. Teams may consist of any players, excepting those who currently or have formerly played on a professional Quidditch team. This year, His Excellency has invited the honorable Phineas Nigellus Black, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to select a team to oppose the Minister’s. Let the speculation begin: Will Headmaster Black accept His Excellency’s challenge? Who will each select to their team? Lineups for the July 15 matchup will be publicly released at an announcement ceremony on July 8. Mssrs. Oddson and Bettes, Bookmakers, have announced they are now taking bets on team lineups.

NEWS: An Animal in Pain or Something More Perverse?

Reports are coming in that violent sounds have been heard by travelers passing by Moseley Bog. The Ministry would like us to inform our readers to stay away and to not travel alone at night. Caution is strongly advised since no one knows the cause of these mysterious sounds. The Ministry wants to assure everyone that a group of Snatchers have been going out every night to investigate the radius of the forest.

EVENT: Ministry of Magic Academy of Wizarding Arts Vernissage

Friday, June 24, 1904 -- Patrons of the Ministry of Magic Academy of Wizarding arts and invited society guests will preview the latest works of art intended solely for the glorification and depiction of the wizarding world. Portraits, landscapes, sculptures, and other fine works of art will be exhibited, and the artists will be on hand to discuss their works. The newest summer robes will also be on display, as London’s most fashionable witches turn out to view and be viewed.

GOSSIP: HARVEY RIDGEBIT WINS WINGED HORSE RACES!

Mr Harvey Ridgebit was declared the first place winner at the Winged Horse Races. However, he is unable to pick up his reward of $255 Galleons because of a problem with his registration.

Allegedly, when Mr Ridgebit signed up at the races, he asked to be a solo rider. But multiple sources are now claiming that he had a partner! What’s even more shocking is that his partner was none other than Cygnus Black. 

We were unable to reach Cygnus for comment on this rumor and his father has vehemently denied all rumors regarding his youngest.

Will the race committee disqualify Mr Ridgebit from his earnings?

GOSSIP: Another Blonde For Malfoy Heir?

A reader reported seeing Antonius Malfoy step out with an unidentified Blonde after supper in London. Unfortunately, the only photo we have of the two is not decent enough to print.

“She certainly wasn’t that Boothby woman.” The reader reported. “She was smaller than her and tiny compared to him… actually, I think he was with Lysandra Yaxley. It certainly looked like her from where I was standing.” 

Well, there you have it. Will she win his heart? Let’s wait for next week’s issue. At least we know what his type is now: Blondes.
