Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.
Praying for a safe journey back to the spirit world, Uncle ❤️🩹🦅
Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.
reblog if you too are bi and confused or support others’ right to be bi and confused
I think it's important to remember that every single religion can be twisted for violence and oppression and abuse and control. Yes, including the one that you think can't be. But quickly, before anti-theists start saying that religion is an inherently evil violence accelerant, remember that this is true for any ideology, including anti-theism. Violence and oppression and abuse and control happens wherever there are people who think that those things will help them get what they want.

And in these next 50 years you will eat so many delicious meals, laugh so many times with so many people you love, shout and scream and sing and cry and smile so hard your face hurts. And you will see such beautiful sunsets and feel fresh cold air on your face and feel warm and safe wrapped up in your favourite winter coat.
I wrap this blessing around you like a shroud, so that no ill can find you, and every warmth is held close

Hey, wanted to start of with thank you, beacuse of this blog I managed to find other Black writers and tumbler users!
Im a bit nervous submitting this ask as usually I keep to myself.
I wanted to bring up, or start a discussion of the lack of listening given to us. If that makes sense. Im not sure if its a lack of consideration. But if someone non-black deems something we do as 'Not the right way' they will go on a rant to correct us as if their doing a favor.
The best example i have is washing chicken. At least where I grew up, I learned we mainly washed it before cooking beacuse we were given scraps. Not only that it wasnt uncommon in the past for food to be given to us that is 'off' or tamperd with, of course time has passed still its cultural.
Yet whenever someone non-black comes across it they immediately set into this correcting stance. Ive seen American and those from other countries do this. Its this condescending thing that assumes we
1. dont understand how things spread. They will rant about enzymes and bacteria as if their explaning a new concept to children
2. We dont clean things after. That the way were cooking is "Dirty" and that we need to be corrected, beacuse obviously we don't know and need someone to explain right?
A bit long, but I wanted to air out what ive seen with an example. Of course there are other things but its the first that pops into my head. This assumption that we dont know what were doing or talking about. And doubling down as if theres only one way to do something.
Tbh, I just don't argue with them. "You shouldn't wash your chicken" okay well I'm going to do so anyway. I'll clean my sink with bleach afterwards. 😐 What are you gonna do? Beat my ass? Not eat my cooking? So don't. I wasn't cooking for you anyway. Like it's not a conversation I have to have. I've got nothing to prove to them, nothing I have to change.
Shit, some of these people let animals lick them in the lips and stand on their countertops and put paws in their food, I don't wanna hear shit about me cleaning my chicken or not. I don't care. Argue with the wall 🤷🏾♀️ shit especially if you live in the US and they have slashed funding for the FDA and other organizations meant for safety. I'll do what I please.
Yeah tbh you got to zone some people out. Not everything requires an argument or a conversation. But I feel your frustration about people always trying to correct Black people when we say we do something. It's the implication that we're stupid or savage, something left behind from the literal centuries of normalizing the idea that we just... Aren't capable of our own complete thought and processes.
Gentrification creates a stifling homogeneity in urban areas that makes it less suited for the everyday lives of the lower class and more suited towards the leisure and tourism of those with expendable income.
An old, decrepit laundromat gets replaced by an upscale bakery? And people are mad? It’s not that the poor hate organic vegan cupcakes, it’s that most of us don’t have a way to do laundry in our own home.
Run-down corner stores replaced by hand-made designer clothing boutiques? We don’t hate your eco-fabric shawl, but I can’t eat that for dinner after work like I could have a can of beans I grabbed from that corner store when I don’t have time to take the bus to the real grocery store after work.
What gentrification brings in and of itself is not typically bad, it’s that gentrification brings institutions of leisure and pleasure and makes it so that the poor have to go farther out of their way for basic necessities. It turns low-income living spaces into local tourist attractions. It can even create food deserts by putting restaurants, grocery stores, etc. in that the majority of the lower class cannot afford.
Imagine if someone totally renovated your house and turned it into a mini theme park - they took away your sleeping space, where you prepare food, where you clean yourself and get ready for your day, and replaced it with things that will please people who are visiting, who have their own homes they can go back to, who are here not for their entire life but just as a distraction from their otherwise mundane existence. It’s not that you hate theme parks, it’s not like you’ve never been to a theme park and vow to never visit one again. It’s just that you need to live! To survive! And the leisure of those who have more than you should not invalidate your existence.
I am glad this has made the rounds. Some people feel a dense misunderstanding or misinterpretation concerning gentrification, and I think it helps to hear a description/explanation of what gentrification is from those who are both affected by it and educated by the culture from which it hails. I and many others enjoy some of the delights of gentrification while simultaneously having their livelihoods threatened by it.

I've seen this clip many times, but never really appreciated the power of "what was her problem?" Just casually assuming that lesbians come in a wide variety of shapes and being inclusive. As a transbian who is probably still closer to Homer shaped than to my ideal, that's huge!
How do you feel about driving?

I can drive, I am good at driving, I do not enjoy driving.
I can drive, I am bad at driving, I enjoy driving.

what are the correct uses of people of colour and which ones are to be avoided?
Okay. Grammar lesson!
"People of color" is a noun. So use it as a noun.
"I am speaking about people of color."
People who are of color. People. People is a noun.
It is not, as the Internet likes to use it, an adjective!
"POC characters!" is the color blind racist equivalent of "colored characters!"
Do you want to call me colored? Is that the racism we really want to use? Old 1960s racism? Shall I go to the colored water fountain next? I'm sorry- the POC water fountain?
If you are talking about all non-white people as a group, use "People of Color".
"White people are used to being the default- which is why they get to be White and the rest of us are People of Color. The Other."
If you are talking about a specific group of people, and you KNOW that, then SAY their group and NOT "people of color".
"I am not just a person of color, I am Black. Antiblackness is about Black people, not all people of color. Otherwise, I'd just say racism. Words have meaning!"

Hey yall I just wanted to come on here and bring some attention to what’s happening at the detention center (really a concentration camp) Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. There is a hunger strike going on right now to protest the abhorrent conditions within the camp (allegations of torture, maggots and other bugs in the food, etc) and protests happening outside the camp. ICE is not allowing any politicians to come in (as is their right) to see the conditions of the camp. I would urge yall to do your own research, but if you want videos of some people who are actually there, here are some tik tok accounts you can go follow: @ bethanyquilter/ @ whoiskingtrivv/ @ Status Coup News/ @ L.A. TACO
And here is a video explaining what’s going on in more detail than I provided.
With everything else going on in the world, it can be hard to keep up with stuff going on at home, but ICE is still out here terrorizing innocent people. We must keep our eyes on them, and keep fighting.
Feel free to add more sources or info to this post, should you have any.
Edit: a vid about ICE denying politicians entry, and the lies they’ve told.
