A neighbor called and said she saw a swarm on a fire hydrant so I grabbed my bucket and ran there as fast as I could. I dabbed some lemongrass oil on the bottom of it and they walked in. After about 5 minutes I just scooped the rest in and bam! Free bees!

I got the queen on the first scoop too though. Apparently she was a new one because she was piping in there really loudly. This is my first personal swarm catch so honestly I’m not sure if that was supposed to happen or not.

I feel this is an appropriate post to retell the time my dad got free bees (found an extra thrown swarm) but didn’t have any equipment to transport them, so he just grabbed the queen in a pint jar, let the other swarm into his Ford Escort, and drove down the highway to home with a swarm of bees loose in the car.

I would honestly die of delight to find someone who watched my dad (~72 white guy) driving down a major Illinois highway with a swarm of bees loose in the car just chillin.

I’m sorry, he’s just like that.

Headcanon that stonekeeper abilities are divided by colors (heavily inspired by FF mechanics, your truly, because the Amulet crew are also FF fans):

Red magic - offensive magic. It's the most basic ability, and the standard among keepers. Many stonekeepers try to climb the hierarchy under this type.

Blue magic - auxiliary magic. Usually defense, but other types such as levitation, binding and whatnot fall under here, because they're miscellaneous abilities. Usually keepers excelling at these abilities are looked down upon despite the immense skill and precision required, since it usually means they only serve as a support in a fight, rather than an active fighter.

Black magic - frankly, it's hard to what classify as black/dark magic, because its most general definition is that it requires negative emotions to power it (which means red magic easily falls under this, and since most stonekeepers are conceited asshats, they pretend it's not). As of now, black magic is when an ability goes against natural order and has a great amount of negative emotions. Many powerful storekeepers actually fall under this category.

White magic - the hardest type of magic. Healing falls under this, as well as revitalization. Very, very few stonekeepers (like, 1 for every 250 stonekeepers, and there around 900 in history) are capable of having this ability, even then it's even rarer to have their skill at it noteworthy. The definition of white magic is hard to determine either, thus blurring what makes white and black magic different.
