I think it makes the point quite clearly that as a trans woman, when I'm interacting with places that do facial hair removal, it's to my benefit when they assume I have a hormonal condition rather than a penis.

A woman choosing to be a man is seen, socially, as aspirational. The woman who lives as a man to fight is a trope, because it presents the opportunity at masculinity as a positive one. There is a type of woman in society who is not only given the option to be a man, but is socially demanded and insisted to be a man, yet who refuses to live as one, and reasserts her own womanhood against an opportunity at 'upwards mobility' - that is, transgender women. The existence of such a class of women is contradictory to the basis of patriarchy as a whole; that is, that manhood and living as a man are aspirational goals, that manhood is better than womanhood.
I'm wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying "traumatize" when we truly mean "upset"?
I am sick of hearing sad books or movies "traumatize" their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it's not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.
Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn't helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.

I think part of what exacerbates this problem is that people lack a framework for understanding what abuse actually is. Abuse isn't someone being mean to you, or doing something that you don't like; abuse it not you being made to feel uncomfortable, or seeing something you do not like, even something you really, viscerally do not like.
Abuse is a leveraging of power that a person or institution holds over you in order to take away your agency and cause you harm. That harm can be psychological, emotional, sexual, physical, nutritional, social, so many things! People have been abused in ways you might never think of! But what unites all abuse is that it hinges upon power being held over you and used against you. This is also why "mutual abuse" is a nonsensical framing for relationship dynamics, by the way. In most circumstances abuse requires a person to weild power over another person.
A book or movie or post online cannot, by itself, hold power over you. Encountering something that you dislike (or find viscerally upsetting!) in a work of art cannot, by itself, traumatize you. But what can is having a lack of control. If your media usage habits are controlled or surveilled, if you are forced repeatedly to engage with material that makes you uncomfortable and your feelings are never taken seriously, if you are forced to be a party to someone else's abuse and consume footage of that or participate in it, if media repeatedly reinforces existing power structures that have already been used against you to terrorize and oppress you, then some really traumatizing, abusive stuff might be going on, and we can talk about the role that media plays in the hands of an abuser. But a media or an art itself? It doesn't have the power to capital-T Traumatize. Because the power is not there.

Yes, Black men in majority white spaces do. If I don’t smile every single second of the day my coworkers become in intimidated and start asking me what’s wrong, telling me to smile, make jokes about how I’m trying to be a thug/act hard, why am I angry, etc. And it’s not just white men at my job God FORBID I my large Black ass makes a white girl feel threaten because I’m sitting down with a neutral expression.
I’m not trying to take this post away from women and make it about Black men but I want to point out that wether it’s patriarchy or white supremacy; those who feel as if they have power over you HATE to see you not smile. They are so used to people like you smiling to gain their approval that when you don’t there’s a cognitive dissonance that makes them extremely uncomfortable.
That’s why “angry Black women” is a thing. They have to put on a smile for everyone (yes even feminist white women) or we all get uncomfortable.

Humanitarian aid is also a formal of colonial control, as the aid orgs are owned by companies & governments within the imperial core. It is those colonial countries who determine where the money goes and who is "deserving," of aid (wealth that they extracted from colonized countries in the first place), and they use this control over resources to get people in colonized countries to do whatever they demand.
