And a second gift, this one for a close friend!
being sad and horny is a privilege
there are people you haven’t met yet who will love you
ty @esmeraldablazingsky for the tag!
RULES: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous, and tag as many people as you have WIPs. People send an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and you post a snippet or tell them something about it!
oh man, SO many WIPs across a few different fandoms. it’s been a rough year for me creatively, and what little writing i’ve done has mostly been personal, but every day i open up my folder and gaze lovingly at the many, many documents inside. they’re my babies and i’m going to give them all the endings they deserve even if it takes a decade. we have:
skork
chili dragon dawn au
sara buils a nest
two wildflower seasons
sopping wet (and six more documents with various permutations of the same title… if i ever publish this it will a monster & also my masterpiece)
sovereign fufu au
detectives (blue)
detectives (mildly less blue)
matryoshka epilogue
wizards

throwing this to @nuttytani and anyone else who wants to join!! <3
I went to an exhibition on the history of migration and colonial rhetoric in Australia and it really helped me to pinpoint my exact issue with the way non-Australians (and. tbh. some aussies) talk about this country
this map is a piece of propaganda from 1921. honestly what shocked me about it was how little of Australia is marked out as “uninhabited”. I have seen maps shared around on this website that basically mark out the entirety of non-coastal Australia as “empty”. fucking colonialists from 1921 were more generous than some of you
the history of colonial Australia is a history of “taming the untameable land”. this has been reinforced through narratives that this country is:
inherently dangerous
uninhabitable
empty
this rhetoric survives in both the way Australia is imagined by non-Australians and in the self-image of Australia. the (white) aussie battler conquers the unconquerable. the outback is imagined as a post-apocalyptic hellscape. our fauna is categorised as uniquely hellish and unwieldy. so when non-Australians make joke after joke about how scared they are of this place. well you can imagine why it fills me with the kind of rage that can only be generated by the understanding that You Are Reinforcing Colonialism
For those who haven't seen a map of Indigenous Nations in Australia:
A link to the interactive version, since as you can see there are more cultures than can legibly fit in a single image.
Imagine if a like 8 foot tall guy that looked kinda like an alien species just kinda showed up at the house you rent a room in and crashed on the couch and at first everyone hated him but you kinda just accepted this weird massive kinda-human alien species thing as a part of your group even though he's like twice the size of everyone else there
Cuz that's literally happening to sea lions in San Francisco right now
So there's two species of sea lion in North America: the California sea lion, ranging along California (including Baja) but not ranging into the north coast or into oregon
And the Stellar's sea lion, which are WAY bigger and live in Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska
A male Stellars sea lion showed up in SF like a month ago and just kinda. Didn't know what to do, and joined a colony of California sea lions, and is just kinda chilling there now.
Weird vagrant species happen from time to time, but this is just a particularly funny instance of a highly social species getting very lost, and just trying to blend in with its closest nearby relatives
New game in development from the creator of The Beekeeper's Picnic!
I know I've not been very quiet about this especially here on Tumblr (because this is the only social media site I actually enjoy using) BUT my new game The Museum of Everything now has a Steam page!
The Mona Lisa is missing! Sleuth through a sprawling space museum, read the past through psychic abilities and unravel an interstellar art caper in this cosy, gas‑lamp mystery.

i love the mighty nein: captain tusktooth, tracy bowman (from zadash), philip, janet, cornelius clay 2, gilligan, pirate sapphire, lord dezran thain, and The Plank King.
it's not my preferred way to engage with media but a ship dynamic i do have a fondness for is what i've taken to calling "the poor man's rpf", ie: when two (or more) people could viably be the source of lurid speculative fiction and tabloid journalism about the nature of their relationship in the reality they inhabit
"isn't this technically all ships" well yes but it's about context. the characters need to be famous (or infamous) enough that they could reasonably be the subject of headlines like the one featuring matt damon and ben affleck from which the phrase "which could mean nothing" originated. they need to be getting the dan and phil treatment from mentally unwell fans on social media forums. the conspiracy theories formed about them should make gaylors look rational and sane.
and tbh? it's funnier if they're NOT hooking up before finding the rpf prompts them to actually consider it
someone stop me before i vethpost. im about to do it again i swear-
well you see the thing about veth that is so crazy is that she's everything, right? she is so many stories. so many experiences. all disparate. all the same. all at once.
her story is a beautiful trans allegory. her story is about being fat and being brown. her story (like many of sam's pcs) is about being jewish. her story is about young motherhood and conservatism. her story is about womanhood and what it means to be a woman. her story is about loving your family. her story is about resenting your family. her story is about alcoholism and overcoming addiction.
and the people will look at her and go isn't that funny, she shot her friend in the ass. and it's true. and it is funny and she did. but did you know she is a representation of the human condition?
That's right everyone, it's May 4th, which means it's time to celebrate that time Sherlock Holmes threw a mathematics professor from a high place!
In celebration, you can get Gayming Award-nominated cosy mystery Sherlock Holmes game The Beekeeper's Picnic half price on Steam and Itch!
****
It is the 1920s, and in a sleepy Sussex village, beekeeper and former world's greatest detective Sherlock Holmes is trying to arrange a pleasant clifftop picnic for his lifelong companion Dr Watson. The only problem is that a series of mysteries keep getting in the way!

sometimes i wonder if we have forgotten that sharing creative work is, fundamentally, a bid for human connection. like I'm not posting art or fic for 'engagement' i'm posting it looking for other sickos to play with! i'd be making it anyway for my own gratification because there's something wrong with me, i'm sharing it hoping we can have something wrong with us together <3
hey everyone "I" have something to show "you"
