Note as someone who has visited and driven in most of the 48 lower contiguous states of the 50 small countries in a trenchcoat that make up the USA;
The drivers of all states suck, of course, this is a given. HOWEVER. There are some very special places that stand out among these. In order of how in fear for my life I was.
3. Houston. Drivers in Texas in general treat speed limits as a lower limit for how fast you should be going and the drivers in Houston show no regard for life or limb.
2. Atlanta. The drivers of Atlanta do not fear death for themselves and would rather you both die than let you merge.
Fucking. New Jersey. If I never drive I-95 or the Turnpike again I will die happy. You've never known fear until you see someone neglect to use turn signals and Jersey Slide through 4 lanes of near bumper to bumper 80 MPH traffic and cut in front of you to make their exit as you slam the brakes on and miss rear ending them by about half an inch.
On the flip side, the BEST driving I've ever seen? Suprisingly, New Orleans. Now, I went NOT during Mardi Gras, but I found the drivers there to be courtious and cautious with a very few exceptions. 10/10.

hearing out-of-staters talk about Noah Kahan is genuinely so fucking weird because like. bro breached containment. y’all aren’t supposed to know about us. Vermont is the Shire to the US’s Middle Earth and Noah Kahan is Bilbo Baggins.
Wait let me in vermont
what about “y’all aren’t supposed to know about us” do you not understand?
I don't understand "y'all aren't supposed to know about us" but I do understand that Vermont is the Shire and it is far better than the UK and so I want in
i fear your perception of Vermont may be relatively skewed if you believe it's better than the UK.
I fear this was a moment of me forgetting the horrible things happening in the world at the moment, and I do apologise😞😞
The shire analogy is great and I too seemed to have forgotten that the shire still exists in a similar horrible world
oop, maybe the analogy was a little more apt than originally intended.

fellow American friends. Anybody that tries convincing you to not participate in actions afforded to you by the constitution is not a revolutionary. They are pushing you towards apathy, apathy the trump regime wants and relies on you having to operate.
Participation by the opposition terrifies the regime. Ensure they are scared.
That is all.
Non native Vermonter debating the move to Vermont, anything you would like to mention?
I would def have a job lined up before you move here. Jobs that pay well are few and so is housing right now (we are in a legitimate housing crisis both from lack of inventory and expense of purchase/rent).
If you enjoy an outdoors oriented lifestyle you will love it here! Make sure you pick up some sort of winter activity, without one the winters are very long and very dark (like so. SO. dark. take vitamin d please, for your own sanity).
Do you have a car? You will need one here. Things are spaced out and living without one is near impossible bc public transportation is limited (perhaps possible in Burlington but you trade that off with some of the highest rents in the state, many of which are higher than my mortgage...).
Set expectations and comparisons to other state's amenities accordingly. If you like a specific fast food we likely don't have it here. If you like having access to lots of social groups and clubs we likely don't have similar to most states, even in our largest "city". Things aren't open late here generally. Cities like Montreal, Boston, NYC, and Portland (ME) are close and wonderful! Montreal is the closest for me personally and makes an easy day trip compared to the other cities.
If you like fake maple syrup get rid of it. You like real maple syrup now babeeey no if ands or buts.
People here are kind not nice and can be wary of newcomers, but I promise it's just because we take awhile to warm up to people. We wave to neighbors, but rarely talk to them except when they come help dig us out of a muddy ditch in spring.
The population is very white and while we're pretty progressive politically there are def pockets of conservative thought. Racism is more subtle here. Despite the whiteness there's some great food here, but you have to look.
No billboards is amazing. If you move here you'll know exactly when you've crossed into a bordering state because of the billboards.
You do not have to like PHISH lol. We also have Noah Kahan and Grace Potter and i personally like their music better (i one time didn't realize i was berating a member of Phish's wife about their late property taxes for my day job...)
Depending on where you move you might accidentally see a person walking three alaskan malamutes on your road and think 'oh that's funny that looks like darkwood-sleddog, but there's no way its them'. but it will be me. and it's happened before (legit funniest thing that's ever happened).

delighted to find that fanfic writers have adopted the practice popularized by '70s, '80s and '90s sitcoms known as "make main characters go on a romantic trip to vermont"
I reblogged one of these but this one is even better.
Here’s your reminder that the US doesn’t have an official language.
this is still true. executive orders only apply to the executive branch
I know we joke about how tumblr users hate all new updates, but this is different. See, the big difference between all the other updates and this one is pretty much all the others can be fixed with an opt-out function or downloading an add-on, like those that change where the reblog location is.
This fundamentally changes how the entire site operates and how users interact with each other. There is no current opt-out. There's not really a way around this that doesn't involve LOT of extra work. And it's incredibly unfair to the original posters.
There are so many downsides to this, and very few benefits.
