So apparently Tumblr ate my original post about this but:

A couple weeks ago I’m going to get lunch and as I open the fridge, my mother attempts to communicate to me that any chicken currently in the fridge is ok for people to eat, because the chicken that was intended for the dog to eat has been used up.

What she actually says is, “That’s human chicken.”

After taking a minute to process all horrible implications of the phrase “human chicken”, I decide to go a different route and hold the tupperware of chicken out to my sister, saying, “Behold, a man!”

This was evidently the wrong choice, as it meant I had to explain to my parents who Diogenes was, thereby cementing the incident in their minds and leading to me, just now, opening the fridge to see the following incredibly cursed image:

Scav lore, they are Bug to me. hopefully you see my vision.

To expand on a few things:

- The weakest/most vulnerable part of their bodies is the shoulder socket, as it's surrounded by bare skin and the spiracle openings. The back and chest fur usually does a pretty good job of hiding it. If you were a slugcat with a spear, this is where you would want to aim.

- The spines on their back are hollow. This is mainly for communication, as they produce a louder noise when bristling (which they do when scared, angry or upset). Alongside clicking their mandibles, they can't really make any other noises and are generally silent.

- The layout of the Scavenger's key internal organs is pretty consistent amongst most other chordate-equivalent animals (paired ventral nerve cords, dorsally-placed heart, lungs/gills towards the back with nearby spiracles). It's not horrendously efficient for the more developmentally advanced creatures such as scavengers, as they're mostly holdover traits from their simpler, molluscan ancestors.

- Most of the finger joints locks together when a fist is made, absorbing shock when knuckle-walking. Scavengers communicate using sign language, so despite this their hands and finger joints are surprisingly dextrous!

What is your favorite scrapped/concept stuff from Valve games?

Dang, this is a good one! There are quite a few, actually!

-In the OG Half-Life, there was originally going to be nerve gas attacks and the suit would flash a lil gas mask icon if you were exposed. There were going to be little canisters of anti-toxin laying around to negate the effects of the gas. I just think that would’ve been cool and they should’ve kept it.

-Kids in Half-Life 2, working in factories. This aspect really emphasized the dystopian feel of the OG HL2 IMO. Plus, they could have had kids as background characters doing normal kid things outside of “work”- (hopscotch, tag, etc.) for atmosphere.

-The Air-Ex reactor music- look it up if you get a chance. It’s so creepy but well-composed. Kind of reminds me of the HBO Chernobyl Soundtrack.

-For HL2, Houndeyes! I miss those whiny lil guys. I hate killing them, though. 🥺

-The Air-Ex Reactor level itself- again, so cool and creepy. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any real footage of it but I bet it was very cool!

-Just the much darker version of Half-Life 2 in general! We missed out on a lot. Thanks, leaker asshole.

-The Velcro Gel cut from Portal 2. I heard it gave some players dizziness and vertigo, but it would’ve been so cool to walk on the walls.

-G-Man in Portal 2! Apparently he was supposed to visit and Wheatley was going to say something like, “There was a man here to see you”. If you couldn’t tell from my fics I love the idea of him visiting multiple characters!
