Underrated aspect of Rocky's and Grace's firt contact (like, the first few blips that get exchanged) is that Grace is FREAKING OUT, probably imagining a million scenarios in which hostile aliens kill him.

He tries to pull up shields. He is genuinly worried. He needs a couple of interactions to conclude that Rocky is not, in fact, trying to eat him or something. And off course he is!! So much of our thinking about extraterrestial life revolves around it being a threat. Aliens are a horror movie monster, They are apocalyptic action movie antagonists. When Rocky's ship came on screen one of my friends (who knew nothing about the plot going in) whispered "I did not know that was going to happen" in an almost terrified tone. Another friend sitting with us before the movie complained like "There BETTER not be any jumpscares in this one or I'm leaving"

An Alien gets involved and we expect to get scared, or things to get worse at the very least. Because that's what Aliens do in movies most of the time. It makes so much sense for Grace to have the same reaction.

Now, Rocky on the other Hand DOES NOT GIVE A FUCK. No hesitation on his part. He sees an alien ship and goes "!!!!!!!!!! There is someone!!!! Thank fuck!!" and immidiatly tries to communicate and follows Grace around when he tries to run and invites him over to his doorstep. No indication of fear or worry whatoever.

Really makes me wonder what kind of stories Eridians tell each other about possible Alien life (if any) and how they imagined it before meeting the human Grace.

I was thinking about that and I thought about those memes about star wars/trek aliens just being blue/green humans and how that is because we mainly focus on sight/look so colours are a kind of obvious choice to make someone look "alien" (as in strange/different) to us while still being recognizable to us as a person (as in: they are still anthropomorphic.

So I thought since Eridians mostly see things through texture then to them an Alien might be really spiky or smooth, just a wildly different texture and therefore weird/unusual to 'look' at.

In conclusion I think Grace is probably just as close to a "regular" Alien to Rocky as Rocky is to Grace. Rocky has multiple even spider-like limbs (common trope) but is also made of Rocks and has no discernible facial expressions (uncommon trope), just as Grace is mostly smooth/squishy textured (probably common trope) but also bipedal with a very distinct difference between the way he uses his arms vs. his legs (probably uncommon trope).

But he still sent those messages not knowing who/what would be inside (the first message was so vague and easy to understand probably because he could not know) just because was alone and had noone else

the worst part is that bernard isn’t the only one of tim’s love interests that timkonners attack. i adore timkon, alright? i read at least 1 timkon fic a day, i duo cosplay them with my boyfriend, but the lack of common sense these people have drive me CRAZY. making a character cheat on their CANON significant other just because he’s “bland” is so childish to me, fanfic or not. if i hated a ship that much, i would never write or read anything related to it, but ig these mfs are a different breed of hate shippers. you’d think they get off to bernard suffering lol

the thing is that his personality doesnt even suck.. hes so very kind and understanding, but beyond that hes sassy and has some real pent up anger and trauma. and we learn so much about him during his very few appearances. yk its really weird, i come from the haikyuu fandom where everyone could ship anyone, it was fun, we never really had stupid discussions around that, but in dc.. its either you ship the most popular fanon ship or theyll harass you to death. no fun allowed
