A person I know decided to push really hard for “no hitting the kids, at all”, and his wife agreed, although she’d been raised with Some Hitting and thought it was normal. And then she discovered that her child wasn’t afraid of her at all, and she could pull a hand back and the child would just giggle because that wasn’t a threat, and she suddenly realized that actually it had fucked her up so deeply that she couldn’t even see it.
Anyway, good job parenting.
Some people don’t realize just how much parental abuse affects someone. Even decades later, children or not. There’s so much psychological damage and emotional damage that is so hard to undo because you were hit and yelled at when you needed love and compassion. Fuck child abusers and good on those who break that pattern.

Some poor suffering gobs!!
Guys.
Y’all.
I…
I just. I just… i have discovered something. And I have laughed too much. I have laughed every time I have tried to explain it to someone. I cannot get through this.
Look. Okay.
There are two things you need to know, here.
First: There’s a style of Greek pottery that was popular during the Hellenic period, for which most of the surviving examples are from southern Italy. We call them ‘fish plates’ because, well, they’re plates, and they’re decorated with fish (and other marine life).
Like this one, currently in the Met:
Or this one, currently in the Cleveland Museum of Art:
They’re very cool. We’re not 100% sure what they were for, because most of the surviving ones were found as grave goods, but that’s a different post.
The second thing you need to know is that when we (Classics/archaeology/whatever as a discipline) have a collection of artefacts, like vases, sculptures, paintings, etc. and we do not know the name of the artist, but we’re pretty sure one artist made X, Y and Z artefacts, we come up with a name for that artist. There are a whole bunch of things that could be the source for the name, e.g. where we found most of their work (The Dipylon Master) or the potter with whom they worked (the Amasis Painter), a favourite theme (The Athena Painter), the Museum that ended up with the most famous thing they did (The Berlin Painter) or a notable aspect of their style. Like, say, The Eyebrow Painter.
Guess what kind of pottery the Eyebrow Painter made?
Stupid is timeless.
I’m that lady who’s just FEELING it
tbh cables were like that and safety precautions weren’t hard set in yet
Oh wow this is horrifying
Holy shit
Why don’t we see this kind of stuff more in history books?! I’d be way more interested in history if I understood that people were afraid of electricity because they were afraid of power lines slicing them to peices like cheese-wire! History books make it sound like “oh those silly people thought electricity carried demons or something!” Rather than “those poor people opposed electricity because they were terrified that eventually there would be so many power lines they wouldn’t be able to see the sun anymore.”
Forbidden Zipline
Me, reading about people fearing electricity when it was invented: well, people always fear changes and the new, so-
*further reads about the madness that was the massive powerlines and its horrifying lack of safety”
-you know what. I would do the exact same: be terrified of the “giant electricity spider”.
