Ordinarily nobody would have taken any notice of the complaint, except it had arrived hard on the heels of an apparent break-and-enter near a café in the Place Saint-Michel, where there had been rumors of revolutionary activity to begin with. To Javert, it had sounded like a simple open-and-shut case.
Three galaxies and forty-two million years later, he was beginning to regret his decision.

What is it?
Basically, an open-sandbox fix-it fic. The Amis Have The TARDIS, (to the distress of Javert and The Doctor) and theyâre going to fix ALL THE THINGS. Whatever anyone wants to draw, write, sing about, whatever. Submissions are open! Wait, you mean like everything that goes wrong in Les Mis, orâ ALL THE THINGS. Slavery. Famines. The burning of the Library of Alexandria. The cancellation of Firefly. WHATEVER. What are the rules? Where weâre going, we donât needâ oh wait, we probably do need rules. OK, here we go! 1) NO SADS. Yes, Les Mis is sad. Yes, Doctor Who is often sad. WE DONâT NEED MORE OKAY. There may be sad BITS, but every story, comic, and filk here ends up happy. Oh! And Just This Once, Everyone Lives! 2) Keep it clean, kids. Like, PG-13. 3)âŠProfit?
What if something contradictsâ TIME TRAVEL. ALL OF TIME AND SPACE. Also, in a pinch, Bahorel can punch it, and that appears to fix everything in this universe.

But in general, weâre trying to avoid shipping, just because Thar Be Dragons, fandomly speaking, and this is for Hijinks, not Drama. EVERYONE IS FRIENDS WITH THEIR FRIENDS though, so feel free to have Cosette and Eponine chill out and go clubbing or Valjean and Fantine walk around the ruins of MegAntares Prime or whatever! Admins and chief contributors to the blog reserve the right to break this and almost any other rule at any point, though! This is arbitrary and unfair and weâll probably angst about it a lot if we do but it will be for The Greater Good (THE GREATER GOOD). âŠOh, and Enjolras is with the TARDIS. Itâs a largely metaphorical relationship, but theyâre happy. You can tell by all the glowing.

Yes, all of what Despard said, plus, here is how Hugo described Enjolras:

His eyes were deep, his lids a little red, his lower lip was thick and easily became disdainful, his brow was lofty. A great deal of brow in a face is like a great deal of horizon in a view. Like certain young men at the beginning of this century and the end of the last, who became illustrious at an early age, he was endowed with excessive youth, and was as rosy as a young girl, although subject to hours of pallor. Already a man, he still seemed a child. His two and twenty years appeared to be but seventeen.
Hugo loved some Romantic juxtaposition of opposites but I think you picked up the wrong end of the stick here. Enjolras is a beautifully sublime figure, an old soul in the body of a young man, who understands events he was too young to live through, and truths that most people spend a lifetime trying to understand. Grantaire is the grotesque figure, a collection of mismatched parts and brandy fumes, who has no understanding of contemporary events, let alone revolutionary apocalypses.
In his preface to Cromwell, Hugo writes, âWe will simply say here that, as a means of contrast with the sublime, the grotesque is, in our view, the richest source that nature can offer art.â
So there is intentional juxtaposition for the purpose of art, as defined by Romanticism, but it isnât about youth or maturity, those are just external trappings, descriptors of the point Hugo was trying to make. Itâs a really fabulous dualism that gets resolved in a transcendent moment and preserved in deathâ nothing more gloriously Romantic than that!
Iâm sorry, these are all sublimely deep and accurate thoughts, but all Iâm getting out of this conversation is âSo Matt Smith would make a fantastic Enjolras. If he didnât have a face like a shoe.â Because Matt Smith? Is totally a charming young man capable of being terrible, and of looking simultaneously like he isnât old enough to be drinking at the bar and like heâs nine hundred years old and has traversed multiple apocalypses, revolutionary and otherwise.
Which makes it a total shame that he doesnât have any eyebrows to furrow at Grantaire.

I am convinced that if Doctor Who and Les Mis ever exist in the same fictional universe, Enjolras is a fobwatched Master
like, if Yana is the side of him that just wants to put his genius to good use
then Enjolras is the side that JUST DOESNâT UNDERSTAND why the universe is not as perfect as it is in his head or why he shouldnât try to rectify that ASAP or why other people think heâs kind of weird for being so singleminded about it

grantaire hasnât been scorning the revolution and passing out drunk in the streets of paris â heâs been traveling through space and time with the doctor. he comes back to die with enjolras.
Oh god so I am not the only one to have toyed with this idea?
Like⊠Grantaire wakes up sometime in the middle of the night on June 5th to answer the call of nature. Stumbles back to the bar-room through the first set of doors he sees. Mutters âI didnât remember it being so much bigger on this sideâ and passes out in the corner. The Doctor doesnât even notice he has a stowaway until theyâve already landed in Chernobyl 1986. And then Grantaire gets a fantastic character arc where he starts out as a reluctant companion and winds up discovering faith in himself, and in small groups of people trying to make the universe a less crappy place, and finds himself making a stand and not just letting things happen⊠and when it comes time for him to leave the TARDIS, whether by choice or by the weight of circumstances, his only request is to be dropped off at Corinthe on the night of June the 5th so he can take his place at his friendsâ sides.
He doesnât know whatâs coming. Looking into events connected to your personal future is dangerous, after all. And the worst part is that the Grantaire who stumbled shitfaced into the TARDIS mightâve muttered about it being inevitable and fate being a bitch, but the Grantaire who comes back, though he knows the dangers, for the first time in his life has hopes of making a difference.
