NHL dudes act like they get their wives and gfs in bulk at Costco
I always wonder how confusing it must be if theyâre all gathered at like a party or somethingâŚ. and everyone has had a few drinks. Like what they gonna do when they gotta find their wife??? They all look the same, theyâre gonna be looking for 12 years til they find Jessica or whatever.
If they ever took a group pic with a lot of them it would look exactly like one of those pics where every girl in a sorority stands outside their house wearing their letters and they all look exactly the same in the most terrifying way possible
Oh, thatâs exactly what those photos look like. Same psychology behind them, too, Iâd guess. You have a sociocultural pressure to conform to and perform a very specific brand of white femininity or else (from the WAGsâ end), crossed with the inclination of wealthy statused (mostly) white men to demand said performance from their partners as a status symbol and a standard to maintain. It has nothing to do with who their partners are as individual people, but as a group the blatant lack of individuality and differentiation is disturbing. And of course, tastes regarding personal aesthetics and partner choice donât develop in a vacuum. ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ

some good tweets that exemplify my feelings right now.Â

I went into some buildings and you heard the boos and the racial remarks but that kinda geared me up. I was called the N-word so many times that I thought it was a compliment, you know (laughs) So I just went out and played. [âŚ] They had never seen a black man on the ice. I just told myself: âJust go out and play and try to represent the hockey club at the best of your ability. And if the fans canât see that then donât worry about it.â I am a black man. I know when I look in the mirror that I am a black man. Nobody needs to tell me that. â Willie O'Ree, who became in 1958 the first black player in the National Hockey League

MOLLYHALL'S BIG LIST OF HOCKEY WEBSITES FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO READ THE NEWS BUT FUNDAMENTALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND FOREIGN POLICY
ha ha, a foreign policy joke.Â
but seriously, you guys have been asking for sites i use to keep up-to-date, and these are them! note that this is not ranked by order of preference, just by order that my google search bar predicted them to me.
The Hockey News - whatâs great about THN is that it is just hockey. unlike a lot of other sites, which are separated into various sports and niches, THN knows what it likes and doesnât see the point in trying out a new restaurant. i feel like i can 99.9% of the time trust them to be factually on-point, and both well-researched and well-informed in their editorials. plus, i think theyâre pretty fair across the league about not picking favorites.Â
SB Nation (NHL) - SB Nation is great for quick, to-the-point news stories. theyâre also excellent for coverage of your individual team, since all the teams have their own pages. iâve also liked a lot of their more editorial pieces, but i find that THNâs editorials have a little more heart than SB Nationâs. thatâs just a weird preference thing, though.Â
Your Local Beat Writers - i canât really link you to anything here, sorry dudes. but if you have a team that you love, be sure that youâre following that teamâs local sites and papersâboth fan-run and, you know, for-profit. when it comes to team-focused news and features, those are going to be your best bet.
NHL.com - ⌠with the exception of NHL.com, that is, which obviously should be your first go-to for video, behind-the-scenes, and game recaps. maybe this one is like, âduh mollyhall,â but hey. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.
Twitter - I KNOW, I KNOW, we all hate getting out news from twitter. unfortunately, a lot of teams use it as one of their primary ways of giving press releases (LOOKING AT YOU, PENGUINS), which means that it has all the latest up-to-date info. if you canât bear twitter, that news will obviously trickle down, but if youâre one of those âif youâre not first youâre lastâ people, sorry. twitter or bust.
TSN (NHL) - i mean, if you canât trust canadians for hockey news, who can you trust??
The Pink Puck - tâs possible that iâm biased. BUT I THINK WEâRE PRETTY GREAT.Â
Bleacher Report - probably one of my favorites. theyâre just super reliable. (ALSO - extraskater is great for advanced stats!)
Sports Illustrated (NHL) - to be honest? iâm not crazy about SI/NHL for daily news. they usually arenât giving me anything that other people havenât already given me. that being said, when SI decides to do longer pieces, particularly profiles, they knock it out of the park every time. also, i was featured on their roundup page once, so obviously that makes me famous and them cool.
ETA: Grantland - tumblr user thecoggs reminded me of grantland!! duh, i canât believe i forgot. again, not all-hockey-focused, but their NHL tag is usually pretty on-point. THANKS THECOGGS.
i hope thatâs helpful! there are a lot of great sites out there and i wish i could give you all individual team fan sites, etc., but tragically your girl does not have that kind of time.
hey if youâre looking for something hockey related to watch:
try when we were boys, a really good movie about a bantam team in 1967 quĂŠbec
maybe youâd prefer a biopic? try the wonderful âthe rocketâ!
or if you want something a little shorter, take a look at the first episode of lance et compte (with english subs!) the famous quĂŠbec tv show following a fictional nhl team.
or if youâd like to learn a little more about the fastest game on earth, i made a list of free online documentaries for you to watch!
