I just wanted to share a more realistic and thoughtful take on Jesse. I’m not trying to defend harmful behavior at all. I just think he’s not someone who wants to hurt Sarah. He acts with immaturity, shaped by his vampire nature. His love might seem twisted, but it’s shown through his actions and his intentions, in his own way.

What’s often overlooked is Sarah’s side in all this. In season 1, she was constantly in a bad mood, clearly uncomfortable in her own skin. As a fledgling, she didn’t really know how to deal with what she was becoming. It was painful to watch. And honestly, as horrible as Jesse could be, it took someone like him to push her toward change. Season 2 shows a very different Sarah — more confident, more in control. Without Jesse’s impact, I’m not sure she would have found that strength.

That doesn’t mean Jesse did the right thing. He definitely acted in the wrong ways. But even though he knew she was suffering — partly because of him, let’s be real 😅 — he never completely gave up on her. There’s something strangely honest about the way he shows love, even if it’s immature or unsettling. He’s a dark, emotionally complicated character. It feels like the writers were trying to say that vampires don’t love like humans — they love in their own, vampiric way. And honestly, I find that dynamic really interesting.

🤓The writers clearly knew what they were doing. I only take into account all the clues from the movie and the series to arrive at this conclusion.

🥹 As much as I dreamed of knowing the story between Sarah and Jesse before the bite, I ultimately created and wrote it based on analyses of the film.

I’d really like to know what Jesse’s story is. Like what was his life like growing up back then? How did he become a vampire? What was his experience like as he learned all the ins and outs of being a vampire? After being turned, did immediately give into his dark side (like Erica did) or did he try to resist his more darker impulses the best he could before finally giving in to them (sort of like Sarah, but not entirely since she still hated what she was even after becoming a full vampire)? What made him want to be a reverend? How did he know Ethan’s ancestor (the one he spoken about in the movie) and what was their relationship like back then, too? Did he know any of the others’ (Benny, Erica, Rory, and Sarah) ancestors back then, as well? Were there any other romantic interests in his life before he met Sarah? Was he originally a good-natured sort of guy until he got bit and became a vampire or was he already an evil-natured person to begin with? After fleeing Whitechapel after the fire, where did he go? Were there any other survivors of his flock or was it just him? What has he been up to over the decades before finally deciding to make his return to Whitechapel many years later? How did he and Sarah meet? What was their relationship like before he bit her? How did he find out about the Cubile Animus, anyway?

Just who is Jesse Black? There’s like so many questions about his past that I just wanna know about! Lol! Tell me I’m not the only one who wants to know all of this, too?! Lol!

And on a side note, who even came up with the prophecy/riddle that went along with Cubile Animus, anyway? Was it a seer? Or maybe whoever created the Cubile Animus with the original intent of Jesse’s being able to bring back his old flock? Like maybe a wizard or witch friend of his from back then, who wanted to help him bring his flock back somehow, but since Jesse fled town, he hid it and came up with the riddle/prophecy for him to find someday (which obviously he did find, eventually). Or perhaps maybe Jesse made it himself a long time ago as a backup plan should his flock wind up getting discovered and wrote the prophecy/riddle to remind him of where he hid it at and what to do with it once he found it again. Although, that last one is a bit farfetched, though. But hey! It could still be possible! Lol!
