On December 5, 1970, Elvis Presley served as the best man at the wedding of his lifelong friend and Memphis radio DJ, George Klein, who married Barbara Little. The ceremony took place inside Elvisās private Imperial Suite at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Elvis and Klein first met in the eighth grade at Humes High School and remained extremely close confidants until Elvisās passing. Priscilla Presley attended alongside Elvis, and country music star Glen Campbell was also a guest. True to his eccentric gift-giving style, Elvis reportedly presented Klein with a gold-plated derringer handgun as a wedding gift.
Photos show Elvis sporting his iconic 1970s style, carrying an elongated police flashlight, wearing a flashy gold belt from his Las Vegas residency.
The Lemon Twigs
My new favourite band.
Blending a classic sixties beat music vibe with power pop, and with due homage paid to The Beatles, The Kinks, The Byrds and the Small Faces, it would be easy to dismiss the Lemon Twigs as little more than a nostalgia act. Whereas itās true that their 1960s style and sound sensibility is sometimes a little too studied, a closer listen to their back catalogue reveals a range of 1970s influences arguably incorporating the likes of Wings, early Bowie and most strikingly of all, 10cc. However, the resultant whole makes the band unique within whatever the US "indie" scene now consists of, with lyrical content ranging from teen angst (I Just Can't Get Over Losing You) to existential searches for life's meaning (If You And I Are Not Wise), backed by killer melodies and wonderful harmony vocals.
The core of the band, who hail from Hicksville (seriously), Long Island are the brothers Brian and Michael DāAddario. Launching themselves as a duo ten years ago, they are now supplemented by bassist and keyboards player Danny Ayaala and drummer Reza Matin, initially to give more range and depth to the brothersā live performances, but now possibly to enhance their image as a power pop quartet. With five albums to their name these overnight sensations have been around for some time, demonstrated by the maturity of their material and the technical skill of their delivery. I attach a playlist above which hopefully captures the extraordinary range of styles the Lemon Twigs possess. Their new album, likely to be a major commercial success and due out next month, is eagerly awaited (at least by me).

took the transfers that he made to VHS, which we transferred to DVD; even though it was four cameras, itās 20 hours of unique footage. I basically made that my visual aquarium for those five months. Instead of sitting here with my pad and pen and just watching everything, I wanted it to naturally hit me. So, all the TVs in my house, in my office at NBC, my laptopāit was like a screensaver. The concert just constantly played for 24 hours. I kept notepads next to each monitor in my house.Ā Iāll say that for me the most important thing was, I wanted my first five minutes to be like a gobsmack, just totally surprise you by what you were watching. And I felt that nothing spoke more of that surprise than Stevie Wonder playing drums, which shocked even me! Everyone knows Iām a drummer, so of course Iād be attracted to this, so thatās the beginning.
