After watching “Koyaanisqatsi” which is a truely, one of a kind movie. About nature and humanity ofc and the effects and consequences in result of humans have had on this planet. Koyaanisqatsi means “Life out of balance” which comes from The Hopi Language; a Native American Nation, who call themselves “Hopitu” which means Peaceful People. I was very interested in this term and the culture because it was true what they were saying and how I was feeling. Life out of balance and peace, it’s the only way to live really. so i looked into the culture more and the way they value their land, the way the use it and how resourceful they are with materials, was inspiring. Traditional Hopi potters paint their pots in ancient and traditional ways by boiling plants collected each spring that produce a variety of colours.
Akira.
planning plans future plans mightnot be atschoolafter this but still planning on being an groundbreaking artist hahaha imagine if i did turn my home into my next project. i always thi k about this and just renovating my house into some kind of sustainable green oasis!! would be my fucking life goals seriously. fuck the travel fuck the vacays. turning my home into an art piece would be lit
since i can’t be fucked doing art in real life i draw on my ph instead. For my next zine I really want to include a quick and easy recipe for everyone. Maybe a cake recipe as well just so try hard vegans don’t have to say they spent so much money, time and effort trying to cook something, stop being a piss take.
Rirkrit Tiravanija’s, “Pad thai”(left) and “The land Project” (right). One of the most well known and also maybe first as an artist to inhabit the term “relational art”. Tiravanija is a big influence for me, he finds ways to involve and to create discussion with in the audience. being cautious of his impact and how to live a sustainable life. The Land Project is an ongoing thing where he looks at the sustainment of a farm in thailand and how the growing community can live a sustainable life with very little and how they can feed off it and grow as a whole.
Ikebana (right), Karesansui (left). I’m in love with these traditions, both consider nature and humanity working together. It’s so important for humans to interact and be informed, be educated, make an effort with our environment. i’m all for the animals but if people can make these connections with their own environment, it would be a great start to peace and change. I definitely have been inspired by these and I’ll be using them through out my art practice I feel, after I finish/dutch uni. but I hope one day I can actually make/have my own zen garden and flower arrangements.
