Here’s a pic of us playing at VooBstock Festival in Verbania yesterday, 2nd June 2016!

Vivienne the Witch combines many attractive elements: a strong sense of melody, good use of hooks delivered a la grunge, solid guitar work, meaningful lyrics, and confident vocals that pull the songs along while evoking the right mood. These girls brings to contemporary music the understanding that you can rock hard and still be musical – that the heavy guitar sound works best when melody and harmony are worked into it. “Shadowbox” confidently accomplishes all of this. [...] Every time I listen to tracks like “Reason Why I Laugh and Cry” and “One Step To The River”, I am struck with the naked expression of feeling and yet still want to bang my head along with the music. Obviously where Vivienne the Witch stands up a notch higher is on the faster songs, where they are able to unleash their power – leading to standout tracks such as “A Sparkling Explosion” and “Dreams and Pain.

I must say that there are not too many instances that I can remember the name of a band really capturing my attention. Song titles, yes. Lyrics, yes. Band names, not so much. That just seems to be an aspect that, although it is quite important, I tend to overlook a bit. Vivienne the Witch, however, is definitely a band name that caught my attention. It could be that I have spent quite a bit of time in crystal shops the past month or so, or it could be that I hardly ever see the name Vivienne, but I was very intrigued after seeing the name. Then, after visiting their Tumblr page, I was even more intrigued. This female trio is comprised of drummer Caterina Fuso, bassist/vocalist Greta Fuso, and guitarist/vocalist Lucrezia Peppicelli. This Italian group formed together as teenagers as Twister and, after growing and evolving together over the years, became Vivienne the Witch.

Vivienne The Witch (Italy) to release new album and single.
Hailing all the way from Italy, siblings Caterina and Greta Fuso, respectively on drum / vocals and bass / vocals duties, joined forces with Lucrezia Peppicelli (guitars and vocals) in order to start the band which will later become Vivienne The Witch, following a few line-up adjustments. The band is an alternative rock project with a unique twist, following in the footsteps of influential performers the likes of Nirvana, Hole or Sonic Youth, just to mention but a few.
The band’s recent effort is a full-length album titled Shadowbox, also featuring lead single “Dreams and Pain”, currently available on Youtube with an accompanying videocip. The song makes me think of the gritty textures of bands such as Soundgarden, while echoing the bittersweet melodies of iconic artists the likes of PJ Harvey or Joan Jett among other. I particularly enjoy the heavy, yet present drumming and the simple, but powerful guitar line, characterized by only a few chords that push all the right buttons: less is always more, particularly when it comes to grungy rock and roll!
The album was released on the 29th of January and it is currently available throughout the mainstream digital stores. Physical copies are also available via bandcamp.
