Me, cleaning the bathroom: why am I so dirty. Why is there soap film on literally everything. What am I doing to make such a mess here what is wrong with me.
Me, ten minutes later, walking into the bathroom to see the 5 year old lovingly massaging soap into the fixtures: Ah.
Me, trying to open my kitchen drawers: why is every knob here so loose. This one is nearly falling off. Do I open drawers aggressively enough to rattle the knobs off or something what is wrong with me.
Me, ten minutes later, chatting with the child while I cook dinner and realizing he is meditatively unscrewing the knobs while we talk: Ah.
Me, staring at my to-do list (dry erase marker on the bathroom mirror): did I do that thing? It's not on the list anymore but I don't remember doing it. Did I just not ever write it down? Am I totally losing my memory what is wrong with me.
Sweet Bean, ten minutes later, totally unprompted: Did you know there is mysterious writing on the mirror? It always changes and I don't know where it comes from. Anyway I erase one letter every time I take a bath.

On the subject of "age appropriate" books and conversations you never actually know what is going to end up being relevant to your kid at any age. I explained slot machines to the 7 year old after we chanced upon a gas station with a whole bank of them along the front wall. The rest of the family thought that was a bit much for his age, but it came in very handy when I had to cut him off at the big claw machine at the arcade this weekend. I was trying to explain that it was rigged and he was never going to get the giant shiny egg even with one more try and his eyes got huge "This is.. this is the same as when you pay the robot all your money and you get nothing?" Yes buddy exactly! This is gambling!

I live a very balanced life of noticing things nobody else does and not noticing the things that literally everybody notices
The tour de fleece posts have begun and I'm feeling envy, I have been slowly (and thus far unsuccessfully) been trying to buy a spinning wheel for weeks.
Spinning wheels aren't that hard to acquire normally, but I want the kind my friend Dafydd invented that folds itself into a little cabinet. And my friend Dafydd is a 70 year old man who builds stuff for fun so I don't know if he has any wheels finished right now or if he'd be willing to make me one. And also I don't have his phone number so I just have to go places he's likely to be until I find him, and the range of places he could be is wide. Last time he disappeared for a few weeks he'd literally gone to Antarctica.
Found him!

They should invent a kind of burnout, where after you reach your limit of existential exhaustion for the third time, your health bar doubles and you transform into a bigger, stronger iteration of yourself. Like you're a nintendo boss in the final boss battle.
