Neat Magic Items for D&D
Economist’s Glasses
A goldrimed pair of glasses which, when worn, allows the user to identify the properties or value of objects and individuals. The object or person must either be touched, or within five feet and individually focused on, for the magical effect to take place. When touching or focusing on an object or person, the information you would gain from the identify spell is displayed as white text in the user’s native language which floats around the object or person. Information on how much the target is currently worth is also displayed. For objects, this means how much the market currently values this item at and what people are willing to do to obtain this item. For people, this means how much coin they are carrying and the reward for any bounties placed on their heads. The magical effect can only be performed on one object or person at a time. Using the effect takes an action. The effect can only be used a number of times equal to the user’s intelligence score (minimum of one) per day. The glasses must be attuned to.
Bag of Probabilitiy Blur
A small leather pouch about the size of a wine skin which contains a particle of fractured reality. It has an opening with a diameter of 5 inches and acts as an extradimensional space. Meaning, so long as an object can fit through the opening, it will fit inside the bag. Once an object is placed inside the bag, it joins with the particle of fractured reality. If you attempt to remove the item, you will instead pull out a version of that item from a parallel reality. It is indistinguishable from the original, save for a strange visual effect which makes it appear blurry. Once removed from the bag, the blurred item will disappear from reality after six seconds. This effect can be performed indefinitely, or, until the bag is destroyed. If another extra dimensional space is placed within the bag (such as a bag of holding or portable hole) a rip in the fabric of reality will be torn. All creatures within 10 feet of the bag must make a dex save of 15 or immediately take 1d100 probability damage. The rip takes up a space of 10 feet cubed, but will close itself naturally. After it is open for 18 seconds, it is reduced to an area of 5 feet cubed. After 30 seconds, the rip disappears entirely. Any beings which enter or begin their turn in the space which the rip occupies while it is open immediately takes 1d100 probability damage and continues to do so until they leave the space. If a being dies due to probability damage, their body is completely disintegrated and their mind is fractured and scattered across the multiverse. Only a wish spell is able to bring a being who has died this way back to life.
No more gender-locked items in character creators. Society has progressed beyond the need for gender-locked items in character creators
My favorite part about writing is that, when I read over my work and there’s something I don’t like anymore, I can just... change it. Like, when I’m reading someone else’s work and there are things I would tweak, there’s jack didly I can do about it.
When it’s MY work, I’m gonna tear into that shit.
Does this dialogue feel clunky? Rewrite that bitch.
Have no idea what this setting looks like? Here’s a new description, merry fucking Christmas.
This dude not nearly as much of a bastard as he needs to be? You bet your ass he’s about to be.
And I can read over it again and again and again, tweaking and changing and fixing and before I know it, I’ve written something fantastically intricate and unique.
Never look at your old work with scorn. Look at it as a opportunity to learn.
I think I might have a new horrible, terrible, fucking amazing story idea.
Okie dokie it took a very disturbing turn very quickly but here's the idea;
Imagine the tiniest, most wimpy, pathetic, pitiful dragon you possibly can. She's got blunt horns and blunt teeth, and her claws aren't very sharp! She's a little smaller than your average house cat! Her name is Altheria. Her hoard consists of;
One dirty gold coin
That's it.
And she's so little she can't even hold the coin in one paw. It's not a big coin, she's just little and doesn't have thumbs! 👍
So the other dragons are all bigger and greedy, and very mean to her. She's struggling to hold onto her one pathetic coin, and these other dragons are fucking HUGE with caves full of gold, yet they're super greedy and want all the gold they can get! So one of them sees Altheria's single little coin and steals it. She tries to fight back, but they're so big compared to her that they just bat her out of the sky like hitting a fly with fly swatter.
So she's lost her entire hoard in one night, and she's feeling pretty pathetic, when she sees a poster!
HELP WANTED - RESCUE PRINCESS ELIZABETH - REWARD 15,000 GOLD
and she gets a very bad idea, but she's pretty desperate and stupid so she does it anyway!
So the story follows Altheria as she blunders her way through this quest to save the kidnapped princess (so tragically taken days before her wedding!!!) And she kinda sucks at it. She mostly skates by because everyone looks at her and goes "She's so small!!! She's harmless!!!"
And there's this thing called The Gift that people are born with. Only people with The Gift can understand dragons, so no one knows what the fuck she's saying anyway. Everyone just ignores her!
Well Altheria makes it to the bandit infested fortress where the princess is only to discover....
Drum roll please!!!!
The princess wasn't kidnapped. She ran the fuck away because she was not vibing with that whole marriage thing. She's taken over this small army of bandits and become their leader. She's plotting to take over her father's kingdom and become queen instead of being sold off to some prince. She's building an army.
Elizabeth has offered every would-be rescuer to show up a choice; join her cause, or die. Out of 37 would be rescuers, only three have joined her. The other 34 she defeated and killed in single combat. Because she's a badass.
She then ransomed the bodies to their families for a shit load of money.
So Eliza has The Gift, and gives Altheria the same choice but with some added sugar; if Altheria joins up, she can be Eliza's treasurer.
Altheria takes one look at the 35,000 gold Eliza has built up, and Eliza promises they'll get even more gold if they can take over the kingdom... And Altheria is 100% on board!!!!
But the reason dragons need gold is simple; the more gold a dragon possess, the larger they grow. That's why Altheria was so small. She only had one coin! But now she has 35,000 that she (kinda, she shares with Eliza) owns.
Altheria starts growing again. Throughout their quest to take back the kingdom in Eliza's name, she gets bigger, her teeth and horns get sharper, her fire gets hotter... She becomes a fucking badass, just like Eliza.
That's as far as I've gotten so far.
This story is badass. hehe~ Imagine Eliza and Altheria going around defeating the other dragons that bullied Altheria before (in the sense of robbing; unless dragons do “fair and square” matches to get the Gold) and Altheria just becomes this extra huge, extra strong, extra badass dragon and the rest are now the tiny fly treatment dragons. XD hahaha
I have this image in my head of Altheria eating the alley cat that was mean to her in chapter one, but this works too

ERIC GARNER: Stopped for selling cigarettes on a nyc street and choked by a cop in broad daylight. Complications of the stress put on his throat by the hold caused his death; Openly said “I can’t breathe” several times and pretty much died while three other cops watched their compatriot kill a man. Eric was well known for just trying to sell goods as a side hustle and never actually hurt anybody.
DJ HENRY was fatally shot in his car by police officer Aaron Hess in the early morning hours of Oct. 17, 2010. DJ's passengers say they were doing nothing wrong when Hess ran out in front of them in the road. Hess says he only fired because he was in fear for his life. Hess later admitted to lying on multiple occasions after DJ’s death about the shooting.
These were all murders. They were not accidental. All of these innocent people: men, women AND children. Were murdered because they were black. Not because they were violent. Not because they were threatening, but because they were black. Something has to change. We have to MAKE a change. Black lives matter. Black men. Black women. Black children. Non-Binary blacks. Trans blacks. Every single one of their lives matter. Your friends. Your neighbors. Your teachers. Your brothers. Your sisters. We are the change.

Massive SPOILERS for The Haunting of Bly Manor!!!
This was a good show. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it if you can. It was heart racing and scary and creepy and unsettling, just like it’s spiritual predecessor. The characters were all so unique and believable and fleshed out. The dialogue was fantastic, the acting incredible. And not being queerbated for once was an excellent surprise.
However, I do have to say I wasn’t pleased with the ending. Not for Hannah, hers was sad but satisfying. Owen’s, likewise, was satisying as well. Having Henry not die and start taking better care of the kids was a good decision, as was having the kids forget most of what was a VERY traumatizing experience. What I did not like, however, was the ending for Danielle and Jamie.
The problem I had with their ending wasn’t just that it was sad. Sad endings are perfectly acceptable, as seen with Hannah and Owen. The real problem I had was the message the ending sent. The Lady of the Lake, by the time she fused with Dani, is basically set up to be a symbol of blind hatred and rage. There is nothing left of Viola except that rage and heart break. So, to have that symbol of rage triumph over the beautiful love of Dani and Jamie, I feel, is not the best decision.
Don’t get me wrong, from a technical aspect, their ending was crafted just as well as the rest of the show. Visually it was well done. The acting was, yet again, amazing. But I feel it would have been far better to have reversed the ending narrative. Have the two of them leave Bly Manor with Dani seeing the Lady of the Lake in reflections EVEYWHERE. Mirrors, windows, pools of water, etc. It terrifies her, and we get the scene in the bathtub much earlier. But then, as time goes on and they travel across America, the Lady of the Lake slowly begins to fade. Maybe Dani is confused by this at first, but she realizes that, as the animalistic rage inside her is fading, it is also getting replaced by her love for Jamie. This spurs her decision to propose to her with that adorable plant pot scene. As they save the plant, they open up a flower shop and settle down together, eventually getting legally married.
Perhaps the Lady doesn’t completely fade. Perhaps we still get that scene in Owen’s restaurant where she sees the lady in the water pitcher. Trauma heals, but never completely goes away. However, as time goes on, she is no longer afraid of the rage inside her. It is still there, sure. But she has learned to manage that rage; to minimize it and tuck it away. She has let herself move on. To love and be loved. And nothing could take that from her.
Perhaps she dies of old age by the time Jamie is telling the story. Perhaps not. But the main point is that rage and hatred does not win. It’s a concept at the core of the LGBT movement, I believe. Rage and hatred is terrifying and real and inside us all; but love, not hate, will triumph in the end.
And for god’s sake, can the gay couple just have a happy ending for once?
Finished Battle Grounds today and I cried. Listened to the Christmas Eve story at the end and I cried. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait another six years for the next book.
Making my way through #BattleGrounds and I feel personally attacked by all of Jim Butcher’s narrative decisions. Still a fantastic read, i sublimely comment, as the book stabs ancient knives through my lungs.
Anyone have any movie suggestions for me to watch? More recent films that I can catch up on
Just had a big glass of wine, watched the “new” peanuts movie finally, and had a solid cry. 11/10
More Dresden D&D characters because it’s fun:
A human ranger with a multi-class in monk. She’s a #smol ex-law enforcer who is easily underestimated. Will track you down, kick total ass with her crossbow, and will put up with a loud mouthed wizard the entire time.
A human punkrock bard with an emphasis on illusion and mind manipulation magic. Was put on trial for use of black magic but was saved by her mentor. Later, multi-classes into warlock with a fae pact. Majority of her spells that have physical attributes are reflavored to be ice related.
(Okay... this may be a stretch. And MANY conversations would have to be had with your DM, but...) An eleven year old human sorceress. Her magic, passed down through her family, is POWERFUL. Not only is her magic strong, she also knows of everything that has ever been written down and knows it instantly. To balance this, frankly OP ability, perhaps the player has to be specifically seeking that knowledge. Even still, I feel like that could get easily out of control in the wrong hands. At the very least, this child is a magical prodigy, but still acts young. She also has a constant companion of...
A variant human rogue who works as a merceneary and body guard. You should definitely take the mage slayer feat, while also focusing on ranged attacks. If your campaign setting has guns, pick up as many as you can. Definitely a true neutral sort of character, your only soft spot is the insanely powerful little girl that you protect and transport around.
And, lastly, a variant human fighter. Versatility of weapons and fighting style is key here, as he is adapt at many ways of fighting. However, charisma should be the highest stat. How else are you going to lead the most powerful crime syndicate in Chicago? Good idea to take the keen mind feat too, while you’re at it. Need to stay sharp when you’re rubbing shoulders with fae queens, Nordic gods, and demon knights.
And hey! If any of these seem really interesting to you, feel free to comment and I’ll make a full character sheet for them. Seems like a fun thing to do.

Time for some Dresden inspired D&D characters because apparently I’m obsessed now:
- A warforged sorcerer with a carved human skull for a head and a perverted mind. A spirit of knowledge pilot’s the construct’s body. The spirit was once owned by an evil warlock and, under the right conditions, the spirit will revert back to the mentality it was in during that time.
-A pixie fighter with a brave heart and fierce loyalty that can be bought with pizza. As he levels up, his physical size increases. He can also call on a swarm of other pixies for aid.
-A vampiric monk that uses sex to feed off of people. Tries to fight his inner urges but struggles to do so. (I’ve chosen monk to represent the speed and strength that comes naturally to the white court). Ki points can be reflavored as the hunger.
-a once-medical-scholar turned paladin when he received a powerful holy sword. His god speaks to him with video game symbolism. His powers only work against non-mortals and even then he must give them the choice to seek redemption.
-a wizard that wields a magical sword that, three times per long rest, can cast counter spell at 6th level. She wears a gray cloak and seeks out those that would break any of the laws of magic.
Just finished Peace Talks and I knew there would be a cliffhanger at the end but that does NOT mean I have to be happy about it
I’ve waited over six years for Peace Talks to come out, two days after having gotten a copy, I’m already almost done. I have a sinking suspicion that it’ll end with a cliff hanger and the next book doesn’t come out till October. I guess I just really hate myself, huh
Why do I enjoy approved destruction of things so much? LEGO sets, demolition sites, scrap yards... what part of my caveman brain are these things tickling I just don’t-
