Being faceblind and watching Trek is so much fun because Jeffrey Combs really jumpscares you, except for when you don't notice him at all.
Weekends are so fun. I got tired of playing Star Trek so now I'm watching Star Trek
monster that wants to eat your flesh : Okay, that's what most carnivores do. Not scary.
monster that wants to drink your blood : Okay, that's what mosquitos do to me. Not scary.
monster that wants to specifically eat your bones : whadda fuck
Dzolo of Ni'Var deserves one war crime, as a treat,
Nutella product placement breaking records today
Most of my askbox is just filled with hate but this right here is beautiful.
End of year thoughts from the Enterprise
The funny thing to me is, while star wars appeals to me more in terms of visuals and world building (hem hem... budget), Trek was all about "Hey, what if we took all those sci fi short stories scattered about in all of these sci fi magazines and made a show out of it"
And everyone was like "we already did that" (twilight zone)
And they were like "but it's mostly all aliens this time"
And "what if it was also like if aesop's fables were on a little hit of acid also"
And it was a huge hit
remember when Jim introduced Spock to his own parents lmao we stan a legend
They definitely brought this story up during the wedding.
Sarek did it.
“Not so many know, but once James introduced me to my own son…”
Funny as that is, this reads as an absolute POWER MOVE to a father not proud of his son. “Look at that, he’s my First Officer because he’s AWESOME. You know who isn’t? You.”
No no no. You don’t understand. Kirk DOESN’T KNOW that this is Spock’s father. He’s talking up his first mate to the Vulcan Ambassador that Spock never bothered to mention is his DAD because their father-son relationship is THAT BAD. This is a power move but it’s not Kirk’s, it’s Spock’s XD
You take one look at that vulcan salute and tell me it isn’t the BIGGEST shit-eating grin
🖖 (derogatory)
live long and fuck you
would just like to add the part where sarek refuses spock as a tour guide and jim is so perplexed/offended that he finds spock during the tour and is pointedly like
“heyyy spock ;) fancy seeing you here ;) why don’t you explain these suuuuper complicated computer components to us, hmmm? ;)”
and sarek is like “i taught him everything he knows about computers, actually. then he FUCKED OFF and joined BITCHFLEET instead of the vsa so there’s no need” and spock just walks out lmao
There is nobody more upset by modern Star Trek than my 80 year old grandmother. She called me after SNW’s final episode and starts the conversation with “Neshama I have been strung along for 60 years. It is legal now, why are they doing this?”
What is she upset about you may ask? Straight Spock. She is an avid hater of straight Spock. She said it was fine in AOS because he was “In the closet. Clearly he was dealing with some things.”
But the main reason she’s upset about it is because Spock always reminded her of her friend who was a queer Jewish man in the late 60s when they became friends. And I think that story perfectly summarizes the importance of Spock as a character, he was created specifically for those who were outsiders. Removing both the queercodedness and the Jewishness from Spock’s character had been a massive mistake on paramount’s part because that was a major factor in why Spock was a favorite. Trying to force Spock to fit whatever mold the political climate calls for goes against everything Spock and Star Trek represent. If my nana says Star Trek was more progressive in the 60s then we’ve lost the plot, the boundaries towards progress should not stay stagnant on the show they should continue to be pushed. They should not bend for the conservative base.
I think my main issue with nu trek, even as I continue to watch it (mm pointy ears), is that the writers have completely abandoned the source material: isaac asimov
Actually the problem is that Spock doesn't have his cunty purple eyeshadow

Might I add:
Finally watched voyager Blood Fever and I feel like pon farr is a pretty self-defeating mechanic specifically because there's no way the other Vulcans don't get the ick. PLEASE neuter your cats, people! This unfixed feral ensign won't leave my precious Fi Fi alone
This one time I walked into a break area at the armory to see if there were any white monsters in the fridge, but the USMC was there, and responded as if an officer had walked in, and called me sir. There were a few things wrong with this. Namely,
- I was a cadet
- I looked 12
- I am female with big naturals
- This is unfortunately not Star Trek
- This was a break room, chillax homie
But to this day it is an event I have to consider whenever discussing gender euphoria and my own deliberations about if I'm even cis, and I think this is really funny
I love Star Trek so much because I've never felt so seen. From Vulcans to Androids to Odo I rarely get to see alternative existential experiences represented, but the DS9 episode Statistical Probabilities (mutants working with Bashir) is a favorite because I can actually just show it to people and be like "this is what it is like; I know you can understand it through representational media because this was approved, produced, and aired." The best work I ever had was as an analyst, because I was only asked to do what I naturally do well: to determine likely (read as: "inevitable," because this is not Trek and we do not have plot armor) outcomes based on observations of data, behavior, and context. There are few ways to word this without sounding proud, but it is exceedingly rare (because of neural processing priorities that kept us alive and efficient) for a brain to retain perceptual detail after abstraction. Simultaneous bottom-up and top-down processing is just not usually useful; there is almost always a tradeoff. And yet, it is through a campy 90's space drama that (and I enjoy this) doesn't take itself very seriously that I get to see this form of perception represented in characters. Super dramatized, of course, because it's aliens and androids and mutants that can calculate large differentials in milliseconds and learn a language in a morning, but I will take it over The Good Doctor or Sheldon any. day.
