Hey Wade! Big fan of your inks. How are you able to cross hatch and blend with all the black in the backgrounds at the same time? Is it just a long process or is there a trick to it?

It more or less depends on the feeling that you’re trying to achieve. To begin with I hatch with lines at around a 90degree angle but I don’t like using straight lines. I try to make sure they are always curves at least a little. Straight lines make it too sterile. The with the subsequent lines, I try to bifurcate what is already there adding layers as needed to fade in or out of solid blacks. If I’m using really thin lines, then there will be more layers usually. If I’m using a thicker line with a more obvious taper, fewer lines are needed. It’s not quick either way but thinner lines takes longer. I hope that helps!PS Sorry, I have no idea when this message was sent.
