ed keeps fishing as a hobby, and as a way to feed them both, in their new life and one day he is bobbing calmly with the waves, he hasn't caught anything today but the weather is so nice he doesn't even mind, he is simply... being and living the moment of peace, until he hears the sound of something bumping against his rowboat and when he looks around he notices two things: a bottle floating in the water and stede waving at him from the shore, too far away from him to be able to hear what he is yelling at ed, who doesn't even know when he got so far away from the shore, he fishes the bottle out of the water and he gets the paper it just says:

my heart dinner is ready, i love you

in stede's fucking fancy handwriting and he adores him so much, so he waves back and starts rowing his way back home smiling like a fool the whole way and when he jumps on the sand stede gives him a kiss on the cheek and a " you have to admit those bottles are indeed a great communication method"
