Ah, of course she was going to be difficult about something like this. She wasn’t wearing any clothes…and even so, Minato couldn’t be bothered to push further. He didn’t feel that strongly about it anyway…at least not as strongly as some others would feel. As he resigned himself to the fact that there was no way he could currently get her to wear anything, the slight pink color that had adorned his cheeks faded. He still was unsure if he could meet her eyes though. “You won’t…? That’s fine.” With a small, defeated sigh, Minato put his hoodie back on and zipped it back up with an indifferent expression. He had no interest in trying to reason with a girl who didn’t seem like she could be reasoned with. Bribery would probably work better.
“Neko is Neko and Neko is a cat,” he repeated under his breath, trying to make sense of the odd saying. Neko is Neko…so her name was Neko, and she was…a cat? No, even if that was her name, why would she be a cat? Unless of course, she was a strain. Shizume had no shortage of strains, and most people he came across these days seemed to be one of the strange beings affected by the slates. Minato was the same, and yet he couldn’t help but think that he had gotten the short end of the stick. Turning into a cat as he presumed Neko could do seemed like a much more fun and useful ability than the one he had been saddled with.
He had already begun to feel frazzled due to the girl’s energy and child-like nature that left him feeling like an unfortunate babysitter, but it only worsened as time went on. He was fairly certain that he had stated his name clearly, and yet she addressed him with the carefree and casual nickname of ‘Blueberry-kun’. Not only that, but he had hoped to at least share his snacks, but it seemed like she was hungry…or something. So much for that. “…Here,” he stated, cautiously reaching out to place the sleeve of crackers into her hand. They were hers now, and he had no expectation to get them back.
More importantly, where were they? He was worried about going without food or drink for too long, so that was his main motivation for figuring out their current situation. Looking away from the girl, his tired eyes looked across the roof of the building they were on and saw…really nothing, except other tall buildings, all connected by…bridges. Logically speaking, the easiest thing to do would be to go inside and make their way to the ground floor so they could actually figure out where they were.
“Neko…san, we should head down…what do you think?” He asked with a bit of hesitation, as if he was sure the question was useless and she wouldn’t give him a useful response.
Neko would have been relieved that he didn’t push the clothing issue with her if she wasn’t currently preoccupied with his offer of food. Neko wiggled her fingers as she waited for him to plop the crackers down into her hands, accepting the sleeve as though it were the holy grail. The packaging troubled her though, as generally she had issues opening things like that up without making a huge mess.
“Blueberry-kuuun..” she whined, blinking up at him with a pleading gaze. “Open it, open iiittt..!!” She held out the sleeve, motioning for him to take it back and open it, knowing she’d tear it open in her excitement and the crackers would go flying everywhere. Shiro had tried to teach her patience when it came to that, but had sighed and simply opted to open certain things for her instead.
As she waited for movement, the male questioned her without meeting her eyes. His expression was inquisitive yet tired. “What’s wrong? Are you not feeling good?” She stopped pushing the crackers at him and peered up at him, worry warping her expression into one of concern. “Does Blueberry-kun want to nap? Ok! Neko will nap too! But then afterwards we can play hide and go seek! Or eat!”
For now, she pressed the crackers back into his hands. She wanted to eat them but it could wait. Besides, she could eat them once they were inside. She stepped behind the male and wrapped her arms around his neck from behind, a puff of smoke poofed into existence and a tiny pink kitten lay flopped over his shoulder. Neko hung off of him lazily, her whiskers tickling his cheek.
“Ok~! Let’s go! Let’s go!” Her tail swished back and forth behind her as her feline eyes stared straight ahead towards the rooftop door.
