A reminder that sell-buy dates or best-used-by dates are not the same as expiration dates.
I love that a food bank is providing this info as they are experts in stretching food budgets and knowledgable in shelf-stable food items
So I followed the link to the website and found the longer list.
The website puts a link to the USDA site which links to foodsafety dot gov who really wants you to use the app, but you can bypass it.
Also a link to the Canadian government's advisory on best-before dates.
Both sites have links to pages that get more into food storage.
people will really come into kink spaces and say you can't forcefem women like there wasn't a feature length movie about an elderly gay man forcefemming a woman as part of scheme to thwart an elaborate assassination attempt before the killer even determined their target
What... What movie is this.
ain't no way in hell this post even breaks 500
i was trying so hard to remember the nonexistent assassination subplot in My Fair Lady
when you go to a doctors office their favorite thing to do is tell you "okay check out at the front desk" when you're done. and the front desk tells you ummm you can just go! and you're like don't I have a copay? and they're like we don't know, we have to ask your insurance company first. and you're like well my insurance card says the copay is $30, can I just pay it right now while I'm standing in front of you? there's a card reader right there on the desk. and they're like nooo we have to send a representative on horseback during the next waning moon to meet with their claims adjusting associate director of benefits management and client services in the secret glade to negotiate. and you're like oh okay and go home. and you get twelve emails asking you to take a survey about your experience
AND THEN in eight months you start getting phone calls from unknown numbers and when you finally check your voicemail they're like Your Balance Is Past Due We're Going To Kill You (even though by this point you have forgotten that you ever went to the doctor). and so you go to your MyChart account and log in with your username and password and you have to reset your password for security reasons. and you get two emails that say Your Password Has Been Reset. Was This You? and you have to go find your phone and enter your two factor authentication code and then you have to select which location you visited and then you have to click through all the Reminder: Complete Your Health History Profile where they ask if you've had any new surgeries even though you definitely told the nurse about this at your visit and then you have to find the Pay Bills tab and your balance is $179.23 and you're like why is it so expensive I thought the copay was $30? and you download a PDF of the charges and find out that they charged a late fee of $15 a month even though that doesn't add up to $179.23 and you don't even remember being told you had any balance at any point and you could call a representative and ask about it but that would probably take at least half an hour and there's no way it would actually get rid of the charges. so you go pay it anyway and you have to go find a paper check to look up your bank account routing number because they'll charge you an extra 3% if you pay with a credit card and there's a fee of $2.75 for convenience also. and then you get three emails that say We've Received Your Payment! Thank You For Your Payment!
Hmmm, had quite the weekend
Wheeeeee
Got a message from one of my brothers that was very unexpected and so incredibly supportive that I started crying at work, so there's that.
I spent yeeeeeeeeears wondering how the fam might respond and my siblings have been far better than I could've expected
Updates!!
Okay. Caught up my other brother like a month ago, great response from him.
We're going to Jax this weekend so I can introduce the gf to some friends and a few siblings and cousins.
I told my mom we were coming into town and that I'd swing by because she wanted to mail something to me. I asked her when she'd be home, in case she wanted to meet the gf and she hasn't explicitly said yes or no but she told me when she'd be home on Friday???? So I guess that'll be the intro???
I assume my dad will be there, but I still haven't talked to him. So, yeah.
Weekend Update!!
I could cry over how good almost everyone has been this weekend. It's been long, but my god, sometimes family can really, really surprise you.
Meeting my mom was awkward at first but we ended it with her wanting to hang out with us the next day. She was so excited she forgot she had another commitment, lmao, so we couldn't meet up again. She made us promise to spend more time with her next time.
Dinner with my siblings and cousins was truly amazing! Our server was one of my friends from before I moved away, so the vibes were immaculate. At one point, they asked if we were celebrating anything and before I could even get a good answer out, my family was like yes!! We're celebrating a new member of the family!! And then our server brought me and the gf prosecco to toast. Towards the end of the meal, my bro ordered a round of shots and toasted her, welcoming her into the family. It was truly too precious.
That brother has also been tasked with talking to my dad and figuring out what the hell is going on there.
One thing that came up during dinner was me telling them that Mom and Dad both responded with surprise when I talked to them in January and everyone at the table being like "no they weren't. Denial, sure, but they can't be surprised. They raised you. They absolutely cannot be surprised." Incredibly nice to have people who really know me say that, tbh. Because I haven't hidden anything, you know? I've just been me and I have not read as anything but queer for decades now, you know?
Anyway, the night was great! Dinner, dessert at the best spot in town, little hookah stop after. Perfect night.
I'm so happy the weekend went well and I got to introduce her to so many people that are important to me. She got to see how I became who I am and how important I am to them, too. Just top notch weekend all around.
I now want to sleep for 10 days
🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
Things are coming to a head. It's time for the annual grandparents/grandkids trip and usually I join to hang with the kiddos and give my parents a break. Not going this year because I haven't talked to my dad but that isn't the excuse everyone has gotten, because it isn't everyone's business.
My mom called while she was in the car with my dad and aunt, checking in as they head to their vacay city. She started by telling me I was on speakerphone and my dad proceeded to not only ignore me but also didn't turn down the radio in the car, so I could barely hear my mom and aunt.
This fucked up my entire day. Because it's wild for him to not even try and fake it on a call with another family member who doesn't know what's going on!!!! I was in....rough shape today, to the point M texted my sister to let her know I wasn't doing well. My sister is on the trip with my parents and the kids.
After a bit, my sister texted me to check in and this led to her reaching back out to M, with a cousin as backup. Apparently my mom wanted to talk to M to check on me, because she was so annoyed at my dad in general but specifically from the phone call.
Anywho, they ended up on the phone together while I was chilling with M's mom at dinner. My mom wanted to talk to him but I've been hanging on by a thread today, so that was an immediate no.
Apparently my mom was committed to talking to my dad tonight, which led to him calling me to stumble his way through an explanation and half-assed apology. I've never been so angry with him in my life. Never.
Of course he's already asking for forgiveness but how can I forgive you when you can barely say what you're apologizing for. When you want to go back to how we were but you're the reason it stopped? I told him I'd need time.
I'm so mad
🩸✨ Happy Vampire Lestat Day!!! ✨🩸
In case you missed it, @hellotailor will be recapping the season for us; the first installment is ready to go, dutifully waiting until the embargo lifts this evening despite the fact that pirated-copy gifs are flying around our dashes this morning lol.
To celebrate the premiere, we've got a special offer: subscribe for just $5 a month for June & July with the code BITEME 😘. You can open up the portal directly via the link below. We'll have some TVL stuff in front of the paywall, but if you want to read all of Gav's analysis (which comes in both written and audio forms), you'll need to subscribe!
Reporting, criticism, and more, all by, for, and about fandom.
Just $10 for an entire season of @hellotailor’s TVL recaps? Sounds like a steal to me. 😉
(We also have a ton of other fantastic stuff coming out in the next few months—you’ll get access to all of it!)
my hottest take is that I truly think every person should get emotionally invested in at least one local sports team - any team, any sport; chose based on their colors or if you like high-scoring or low-scoring games or which player you think is hottest - and go to at least one (1) live game each year; and at that game you need to cheer and/or boo at the top of your lungs with everyone else, and thus microdose on the human instincts for 'us vs them' thinking, mob mentality, and bloodlust. Because if you don't accept these things in yourself and periodically indulge them in something petty like sports, you'll accidentally put them in politics, fandom shipping, etc. instead, which I think we can all agree is Worse.
me: lol what if every onion article came true all in one year

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!

Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)

just saw a 'comments' tab on someones blog you know where the following and likes tabs would be if enabled and it was just showing all the replies theyve made on peoples posts. this is fascinating when did this feature come out
EMERGENCY - ITS AUTO ENABLED!
if you've made replies on posts there is now a tab on your blog showing every post youve replied to and your reply.
if this is not what you want, either go to your blog and click comments and disable it from there or just go to your individual blogs setting pages. just change it from blue to grey if you dont want everyone to see your replies AND the post you're replying to
PLEASE BE ADVISED that it is set to disabled for blogs that have not made any replies but it will turn ON if you reply with that blog in the future.! i just tested it with my main, which was greyed out but it turned on the moment i left a test reply
figured i'd get the word out bc i have not seen a single mention of this and i'm sure there are plenty of people who maybe comment on things they don't want on display for everyone to see on their blog lol. you can still look at your replies with it toggled off just no one else can, like locking the following and likes list
it is not auto-enabled for everyone. it follows your shared likes settings. not that they make it easy for anyone to know anything. this was not posted on @changes, where, yknow, changes are posted. instead it was over on @engineering.
