i feel like "feminist" anti-kink sentiment is very tail-wagging-the-dog. like male doms playing out bdsm scenes of abuse are not oppressing their female subs that's acting. you're mad at acting. you're those aliens from galaxy quest. same with fearmongering about "booktok". however an eroticized version of patriarchal dynamics being a popular kink DOES speak to the pervasiveness of sexism, bc eroticizing the oppression is a way of coping with living under it. it's women creating a fantasy world where men being menacing to them is sexy and not scary like it is irl, or where it is still scary but in the fun way like a horror movie bc you can tap out at any time by using a safe word or putting the book down. acting like this sort of kink is oppressing women is like if you assumed the thermometer controlled the weather outside. it might be depressing to look at the thermometer and see the impact of climate change, but it's not the thermometer's fault

Sometimes I reread heated rivalry the book but like, by their age periods. The period they were seventeen. Twenty. Twenty three. Twenty five. The long game but with their age in my head constantly. It helps me a lot understand why they're such idiots.

the evidence for shane being secretly a switch is that on the vegas rooftop scene he goes “nevermind. okay.” and then walks away down the steps and then stops like 15 feet away and holds out his hand and says “see you next season.” that’s the funniest power move. he’s such a child emperor. you there peasant, walk down these 4 steps and shake my hand. i bet he loves holding the door open for people when they’re a little too far away and watching them jog to him.

At this point I've seen HR months ago and I didn't remember what my first impression was about it, but i was talking with some fans from my country and i remember now that I spend my whole first watch worried about the russia aspect

And it wasn't just me, I checked in all my latam whatsapp groups, we were all waiting for Ilya to get sent to russia or for russia to exile him (arg fans i know were all prepared for political exile from episode one we love a political exile plot)

The tragedy of heated rivalry (to me) is that if Shane Hollander's first gay experience wasn't Ilya Rozanov, I bet he would have accepted he was gay way sooner. And I mourn that, it would have been such a fun clusterfuck

A lot can be said about rachel reid but that woman has written the juiciest morsels of psychological torment for us to obsess about and went about it like no biggie

I can write essays about the fuck building and how Ilya only lives in the carefully delimited fringes of Shane's life,

making it so that when he leaves him in his rick owen's Ilya could get excised from it immediately and completely, with no trace and no consequence

Are you still writing the Jessica fic? I really liked the Lilith post and I wanted more, but you said you had a different Shane's gf fic so

Hi so I've been ignoring my askbox for forever even if I want people to talk to me so, sorry anon, it's been a while since I've received this.

I'm still writing the Jessica fic, I'm probably going to try and post more about it from now on since I know I need some motivation to keep going, is a long ride, and I won't post on ao3 until its mostly finished

For anyone who doesn't know about the Jessica fic, it basically goes like this:

Shane is in HS and so fucking happy with his girlfriend Jessica, they really love each other, he sees a future, and the sex was akward at first, but they figured it out! (More on this later)

After the draft Jessica sits him down and breaks down crying saying they need to break up because, "Shane, I'm a lesbian" and Shane is so supportive, and she can't come out because her parents suck

Shane has the wonderful idea of being Jessica's beard "besides, if I say I have a girlfriend I won't be pushed to date, I want to concentrate in my rookie year, so really Jessica, you're doing me a favor"

This goes on for years, and they're that power couple in public except all their friends (non hockey friends) know

Shane thinks he told Ilya

Ilya doesn't fucking know

The Hollanov timeline is the same except at some point Ilya hears about Jessica and wants to puke (though he won't admit to himself why).

And he'd ask "Hollander, are you cheating on your girlfriend with me?" (That is, oh god am I the other woman?)

And Shane, who thinks he's being so fucking clear, will say of course not, and then when elaborating he would end up leaving Ilya with the impression that him and Jessica are in a healthy and wonderful open relationship

And Ilya would go on with his life thinking he's not the other woman, he's a side chick.

And this is actually all a fic about Shane and Jessica exploring queerness and friendship togheter, and it's a result of me thinking of how good it would be to give Shane some queer support early on. :)
