Okay so. Iāve started to watch the amc āInterview with a vampireā series. I have a LOT to say. But before I Rant, let me give you some disclaimers:
- I have not read the book series. I only know it through a friend who told me the story from the beginning to the end. So not going to focus on the adaptation work (which is objectively abysmal)
- Iāve seen five episodes yet. I plan to watch all of them again, taking notes and reflect on it. OBVIOUSLY SPOILERS.
- Iām not an English native speaker, so be indulgent with syntax and grammar.
Thatās all for the disclaimers. In this post Iām just going to put all of my thoughts about the series (not in any particular order) and be brief about it.
Good parts: the scenery is nice, you really get immersed into New Orleans with talent. Added scenes that exploit the relationship between Louis and Claudia are nicely paced (which is not a given). And actors, when faced with a good script, can deliver amazing performances.
Ah and yeah. Gay vampires. Woooh.
- camera work is boring, itās frustrating to have it so still at all time.
- scripts are inconsistent in quality. I can not be invested emotionally if events exist only to add drama for 20min, and then fade away. Forget clichƩ, those episode are straight frustrating.
- dialogues are ruining everything. Oh gosh I for the LIFE OF ME hate Daniel. I wish I could love a good old little goblin filled with sarcasm, but heās just insulting at this point. (Not talking about the prophet thing, thatās another problem). AND IF ONLY Daniel was the sole character with shitty lines. Iām cringing or Iām insulted as part of the audience, feeling like writers do not care or are making fun of me. In a bad way.
- except stage set, everything looks so cheap. Especially cOstUmes! I mean, except for framing cute little Ried ass in fine wool, all of them clothes are out of time period or hanging sadly like cheap curtains on extras.
- have I told you about the dIALOGUES??? I kinda like whatever they added in Louis story. However I could not follow anything that was going on in the first two episodes. Monotonous exposition that was not needed, as you should rather show it.
- do I really have to talk about how Claudia isā¦ā¦.. horrendously written? Sheās not an adolescent, not a child, not an adult. Just a feminine touch to add s*xual agression into the long list of āwoke fightsā writers wanted to add along. If only that was treated with respect and not as a tool to āmake her strongerā
- if they intend to maintain the main relationship between Louis and Lestat, I fear that they went too far with the fight. How does anybody write, direct, play and watch this scene, without thinking āitās overā. It is over. You cannot come back from that WITHOUT a true reason or without damages. This is messy.
- not going to talk about video editing. Iām just angry about it. This is far from professional level and it SHOW.

Edit: I must add that, for a vampire story, they chose to go for historical romantic drama and not gothic horror. Missed opportunity is you ask me. AND THEYRE MAKING FUN OF NOSFERATU AND IāM OUTRAGED!
