Clive Russel, the actor who plays Simon Lord Lovat (The Old Fox ) in @outlander_starz, made a visit to us on Sunday, following @invernesscomic yesterday. Clive met fans from @inveroutlanders and was given a tour of the mausoleum by the Custodian Erik Lundberg. This included a visit to the crypt where he saw the newly laid casket containing the remains of the 5 people that Sue Black found in the coffin previously thought to contain those of his famous (or infamous) namesake. Clive showed great interest in the story of the mausoleum and the Lovat Frasers. The remains found in the Old Fox’s coffin will be reinterred in a new casket and returned to the crypt tomorrow. Sarah Fraser will lead a short service at 11am where a priest from St Marys Beauly will offer prayers for the dead. It will be attended by members of the Lovat Fraser family. Others with a special interest in the mausoleum are welcome to attend the service where the remains will be respectfully returned to the crypt in a casket prepared by Wm Fraser Funeral Directors in Inverness and kindly provided by Sarah Fraser. The dress code is respectful but not black tie. At the famous cave today where Robert the Bruce hid for 3 months in the winter of 1306. Earlier that year, Simon the Patriot Fraser saved his life 3 times at the Battle of Methven. (This is why the Fraser's were allowed to put 3 crowns on their family crest as he saved the life of a man who went on to be a Scottish King.) After the Battle, his friend William Irving, Laird of Dubskelly hid him in the castle safe, a man made cave on a cliff face accessed by ropes. Work has started on a programme of repairs to the walls and gravestones as well as tree felling. It's being organised by Erik, as an architect on behalf of Highland Council who look after the graveyard.
