Horseman's Bride, intro
Horseman's Bride, Chapter 1 (part 1) Calm before the storm.
The Horseman's bride Chapter 1 (PART 2) Calm before the storm.
oh no babies your good this doesnt happen in the movie. The film doesnt even try to do something to its characters. 😭 I'm also gonna warn you if you have a hard time with vision or migraines this movie has HORRIBLE lighting, sequences and nearly every shot is blown out. I got a headache after the first hour it becomes a real slog to get through 😞
Mando and Grogu (part 1) no spoilers, concept comic.
context: Mando's identity is being broadcasted as punishment by the hutts. To their knowldge by doing this the mandalorian guild will abandon him, they would have finally stopped the mandalorian who' been throwing the plots of their empire associates, and with their power there's nothing the new repiblic can do to stop them.
I felt that the mandalorian and grogu was incredibly under-developed and without spoilers it just wasnt a movie. Nothing too substantial happened and the closest we got to something happening was just dismissed so.
imagine if instead we had fhe following happen:
The criminal underworld previously held down by the empire are now thriving, and expanding at a rate the new republic can't keep up with.
Mando is kidnapped as a revenge plot by the same people he used to work for/ began to work against. Being the crime lords and heads of the bounty guilds.
He does work for the new republic now and they would go and rescue him if they could, but perhaps there's an extra element at play here where it falls out of their jurisdiction, and they are prevented from engaging.
So now Grogu has to work completely on his own using what he's leanred from Mando and from Luke in order to rescue Din.
Perhaps he's helped later along the way from some previous allies Mando's helped, all in order to free him.
Also Rotta and Boba can created a merger at the end and it would be cool idk.
I made this comic, hopefully i'll make the second part soon-ish 😂 but anyone wanna take a guess as to whats gonna happen to Din next.🥲 anyone recognize what the floor plan here kinda looks like?? 🤧
Warning: No real warnings this time, mentions of non-con, past traumas
Chapter Synopsis: The Rider takes accountability for scaring you; meanwhile, you begin to sympathize and understand him more than you did previously. Content to dance with him till sunrise, the two of you patch things up.
You stood stunned, speechless as he you held his hands. He managed to stop shaking like a leaf, as he was forced to come clean in that moment of the most painful experiences of his life. What the hell just happened.
“Holy shit.”
You breathed as he re-gained his composure. Your not sure, but if he had a head, it’d be very hard to look him in the eye right about now.
“Elizabeth, I'm sorry, I'm trying my best and it clearly wasn’t enough. I'm not angry with you just tired and very very confused.”
He said as his tone melted from firm to unsure. It made you want to say something to comfort him but there wasn’t anything you could think of to say.
“The last thing I wanted was for you getting hurt or worse.”
He said as his shoulders slumped slightly.
“And I failed.”
He admitted, like all the fire in his chest had burned out. Soon you were back to leading the dance as the two of you moved with more solemn motions. You looked past him at the ground unsure of what to do next.
“If you don’t want to talk I’d understand, let's just keep at this until the morning Eliz-...Bess.”
He corrected as you shook your head.
“No wait there's something else I need to tell you. If it helps the other reason I ran was because I’ve been having nightmares since I’ve been here, they all involve me until recently.”
You explained as he asked.
“What did you see?”
You looked off to the side, you should probably start from the beginning before telling him the truth.
“Well the first dream was about my crush from highschool…That didn’t end well. The second was something that happened to me as a kid, and the third was well…Worse than the previous two.”
You explained looking over to your hand that was gently cupped by the rider’s gloved one.
“In the first dream it started normal until I ended up trapped in the woods, the second was about this other me that took my place. The third was about that evil dopplerganger taking over my life and basically telling me to go to hell.”
You said in a low tone as the Rider noted.
“That sounds very troubling, what else happened if you don’t mind my asking.”
He asked as the two of you began to dance at an even slower pace.
“In the last dream I had you showed up in it.”
You said looking away as his hand lifted yours. Guiding you into an open spin then back in towards his body. There was that warmth again, thankfully he was opening up again.
“And what exactly did I do in your dream?”
He asked as you answered. You felt your hands go clammy as you recalled the intense scenes of your nightmare.
“Well I remember falling on the floor and turning into a pumpkin, you showed up and somehow you had your head back but I couldn’t make out your face.”
You explained avoiding eye contact or whatever you’d call having to look in his direction.
“You told me you were gonna keep me, and that even with your head back you were never gonna leave and neither was I, it scared the shit out of me.”
You explained in a broken, on the verge of tears kind of tone. The Rider finally understood what your hurry was. He guided you in a gentle turn with him as he spoke rationally.
“Vengeful possessive spirits can hark on people’s greatest fears, if I had to guess, I’d say she’s trying to break you down so you act out, and get yourself into trouble.”
He explained as you took small graceful steps with him, a quiet waltz under the glowing forest.
“Looks like she won, in a way.”
You said lowly sniffing through your stuffy nose before groaning.
“Ugghh I’m so sorry about all of this. This is mad stupid, I just wanna get out of here…No offense.”
You said as he chuckled.
“I don’t blame you Bess, you did good at questioning my intent.”
He said, it made you feel a little better about running away, you did get pretty far after all without any real trouble.
“Don’t stop questioning this world around you, if today was any indicator I think you have a fighting chance at getting your body back.”
He explained as you smiled.
“Really? What makes you say that?”
You ask as he laughed, the two of you slowing before turning around a few times.
“My job for the past 250 years is to find souls, yet for the life of me I couldn’t find yours for nearly 6 hours.”
He said as you laughed, it was insane how far you got and for the length of time you did it for. With the help of those little kids, you almost reached the barrier between limbo and the living.
“I’m sorry to keep harking on this but I really am somewhat proud of you and I swear I’ll never do anything like that to you Bess you have my word.”
You nodded and spoke softly.
“I understand and I forgive you…Even though you didn’t do anything wrong. Damnit, ugh sorry.”
You said before asking.
“I didn’t know that happened to your sister, you don’t need to tell me how she died if it’s too much for you, but do you remember her name? Or is that a lost memory as well?”
You asked as the Rider hummed before stating.
“Harper, her name was Harper, I remember her name because my dad said that girl could harp on about any little thing for hours.”
He explained as you giggled. As the two of you continued to waltz in place you couldn’t imagine that kind of pain. Forgetting nearly everything from your living life all except the horrible event that was losing a family member. That in of itself is like hell and it’s shocking to see the kind of man the Rider is now regardless of that fact.
It helped put a lot into perspective. You both fell into a comfortable silence. With more context into eachother’s lives it definitely helped the tension you felt towards the guy. Hmm note to self, help him think of a name so you wouldn’t have to keep calling him the rider.
As the two of you swayed you inched in closer with him. You weren’t cold like this but you liked the warmth he emitted, you closed your eyes and just swayed him with him. Unconsciously he did the same, there was a rhythm now where there wasn’t one before, that was nice.
“Elizaaabettthh”
A small curt voice whisped by your ear.
“Gah- Oh my God! What?!”
You exclaimed in surprise and annoyance as Carlotta with the Lady standing behind her peered over at you. You swallowed your words and smiled up at her.
“H-Hello…Heh so uhh we figured it out.”
You said looking to relieve her of her duty, the Mother look directly at the Rider and spoke.
“ I’m glad our acquaintance of you was not of poor judgement as my daughter here is willing to sacrifice for your freedom. My daughter here is very special Rider, you’d do best to take her home.”
The mother spoke as the Rider acknowledged.
“I will, thank you Mother.”
He said as you smiled.
“To ensure you finish the dance without interruption we’ll roam the area till sunrise. Also Elizabeth.”
The mother spoke looking down at you as you looked up to her in response.
“Yes?”
You asked as she smiled.
“I take it you decline our invitation?”
She asked as you looked to the rider. You were going to give this another shot. As you came to your final decision you peered up at her and nodded.
“Yes I decline.”
You replied as the Rider’s form loosened in relief. You gave him a look of shock your mouth comically gaping as you gasped.
“You thought i was gonna say no! Didn’t you!”
You dramatic’d as he laughed.
“Of course not!”
He joked as you twisted his arm. He hissed and laughed as you tortured him before looking to the side. The mother was now walking over to the Sylphs.
“Consider your invitation revoked, girls we must away.”
She said as the ladies like dandelions flying off in the wind spread off into the woods with a quick prance leaving glimmering lights behind them in their tracks.
“Farewell you two, we hope to see you at the “wedding”.”
Carlotta whisped giving you a quick hug before prancing off to the others. They danced into the night, the little girl looking back at you waved before taking the hand of her older sisters.
“Farewell!”
You waved as the troupe disappeared into the night. You looked back up at the rider, then beyond him as the dark of the night lended itself to a cool hue of blue. The morning was coming at last.
Author's note: Yes, I know...It's nearly Thanksgiving, but it's still fall! I feel like people overlook November to get to Christmas! But it's nice following up with this story! These two are a mess!
The Horseman's Bride, Chapter 7, La danse de Sylphide.
Warning: Intense scenes, mentions of Non Con, explicit language, PTSD, mentions of death, recollections of trauma.
Chapter Synopsis: Your time is running out, the Rider is out to find you. Just before he can, you call upon the aid of the Sylphs. But as you'll come to find out, there's a little more to asking for their help than Carlotta or the book led you to believe.
“Shit shit!”
You hissed to yourself as you began running. This stupid leg, I can’t get away fast enough, you realized as you ran along the dirt path. So you picked whatever was closest.
You looked over and spotted a deep section of brush off to your right. You hobbled down off the path and down the small hill before diving into the bushes. In a hurry you threw your sack and walking stick behind the bush. There was no time to search for the knife, there was only time to hide.
You fell on your knees and crawled deeper into the fauna as the unmistakable sound of the Rider grew closer.
CLICK CLICK CLICK
The earth began to vibrate with every trot. You shuffled in deeper before getting down to the dirt and holding your breath. You listened to the sound as it grew louder above. You clamped your mouth and nose shut with your hands and eyes closed in fear.
Don’t move, dont breathe, you can do this.
“Elizabeth! Bess!”
His voice broke the air, it thrummed deep in your head like a migraine. He sounded almost desperate, don’t breathe, don’t make a sound, it was as if those very simple actions would give you away. Then just as quickly as it grew it faded as he rode down the path.
You let your hands fall as you gasped for air. You shook your head trying to snap yourself from the terror. Go leave the sack and go, your mind reasoned while your quick breathing slowed.
After finally getting a grip you cautiously stood, your body felt like it weighed a ton. Peering up from the bushes, you watched silenrtly as the light dimmed on the other side of the woods. You dipped back down low and made your way further into the woods.
He was gone for now but you had to act fast.
While you moved you gripped your hair with your fingers. Cmon think think of something Bess! Your brain hammered as you scrubbed your head in annoyance.
“Ah what the hell am I gonna do, ugh! What was her name! Carlie!? Uh fucking! “Charlotte?! Ah c'mon!”
You cursed to yourself silently trying to recall the damn name of that Sylph lady! You had to use your trump card and fast. But unfortunately her name slipped your mind.
“Crap! Okay lady who’s name starts with a C, I really need your help! Please he’s after me and I don’t know what to do!”
You begged quietly to the wind as you heard a noise near by. The leaves rustled as a breeze flew through. So you dropped to the floor and huddled into yourself.
Your eyes welled up in tears as you listened to the sound of the horse running in a different direction but still within the vicinity of your hiding spot. How is it that you can’t seem to get out of here?!
Nothing felt safe anymore as the inevitable literally rode by. That Sylph lady porbably isn’t coming for you since you forgot her name like an idiot! You felt truly and utterly hopeless, just like that first night you arrived here.
Maybe your life truly is over and it was pointless to try and find a way out. You curled into yourself, your mind wandering back to what the little boy said. What your imposter told you as well, you should've just gone to hell, because the Rider was coming to take you there himself.
You shrank into a huddled terror your breathes growing faster with each second. Then a small tap suddenly hit your shoulder causing you to jump. You practically screamed as you swung a punch to the person next to you, expecting the Rider, but instead you're fist was met with the delicate yet strong hand of Carlotta. Gripping your fist as she beamed with joy her pale face smiling as she whistfully asked.
“Bride to be you called! Whatever happened?”
She asked as you gasped. Your throat caught and tears began falling down your face as you lowered your fist. You shook your head as she frowned and nearer you.
“He betrayed me like you said, he was never going to let me go.”
You cried as Carlotta leaned forward gently bringing you into a hug. You slumped into it sobbing and crying like a baby. She patted your back, soothing you as you cried.
“I’m so sorry Elizabeth, he seemed like one of the good ones. You’re going to be safe with us I promise you.”
She said as you sniffed. Shortly after she carrfully helped you up to your feet before guiding you out of the brush. You slowly shuffled along with her as the two of you entered another clearing surrounded by trees and light.
Other ladies in similar gowns stood waiting for you in an enchanted grove that seemed to appear out of thin air. Two others came to your side and helped you as you limped along. Then another three came to your side, and soon the multitude of women walked along with you.
“It’s going to be okay.”
One said calmly her voice as soft as a breeze.
“You’re with us now sister.”
Another piped gently as you wiped your face with your sleeve.
“Thanks, I’m sorry.”
You cracked as they walked you over to a boulder sitting you down and comforting you.
“Oh daughter there’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
An older lady among them said as she kneeled in front of you. She towered above the rest, dressed in a longer more ethereal gown. Her presence left you awe struck as she spoke with the voice of the night.
“You're lucky you met Carlotta when you did, what matters now is your safety.”
The lady said as you smiled tearily.
“Thank you.”
You breathed as Carlotta came to your side and hugged you. Her embrace felt warm and familiar like a family member’s would. You smiled feeling the warmth radiate as other girls joined in to hug you.
All together you looked like a big dandelion, a ball of tule skirts and tiny wings with you sitting like a stem in the middle. Finally you felt safe, when suddenly the sound of footsteps broke the moment of comfort as you heart jumped in your chest.
“He’s here. Daughter stay put.”
The lady confirmed before standing and walking to the center of the clearing. The girls surrounding you fixed their eyes on the approaching threat and surely enough the rider emerged from the bramble. He walked from a thicket of fog that seemed to cape his imposing figure.
He strode in before stopping in his tracks at the sight of the lady and the multitude of Sylphs surrounding you.
“Oh Bess.”
He said disappointingly as the lady stood her ground.
“Rider, we've been fond of you for many years. Clearly that was to be questioned. Explain yourself, why do you leave my daughter so mortified?”
She demanded as the rider explained.
“Please understand, mother, I wish to know myself. When I came home I found that Miss Elizabeth was missing. I assumed something had broken in and taken her.”
He explained as Elizabeth looked on at him with anger.
“Please Bess what’s going on? Did you… Run away? Why did you call upon the Sylphs?”
He asked as the Sylphs swung their heads at you. You immediately spat back. Your voice drips with rage and exhaustion.
“Because you're a liar! You told me you were going to take me home after the wedding, that it was platonic but I know exactly why you ‘helped’ me, it’s because of some stupid instinct isn't it?!”
You yelled as the sylphs turned their heads back to the Rider.
“Instinct? Wait Bess, did you read the book of the Beyond?”
He asked as the Sylphs all looked back at you.
“Of course I did, I'm not a moron! Mate for life are you fucking kidding me?!”
She yelled as the sylphs gasped before staring daggers back at the Rider. He went rigid at your words. At this the lady stepped forward.
“You intentions of wedding her weren’t matched it seems, tell me were you going to force her into eternal servitude Rider?”
The lady asked with a swift sternness as the rider stood in place.
“No I would never dare, we’re merely friends, once she’s alive again the marriage would be nullified. Understand that with Elizabeth as my ‘fiance’ the creatures of this place would respect that and leave her alone; it was purely for her protection.”
He explained as the lady stopped him.
“That is all rider, Elizabeth do you trust him, or do you wish to be rid of him.”
She asked as your eyes burned. Tears streamed down your face as you shook your head slowly. Refusing to even make eye contact.
“I- I can’t trust you, we had a deal and you broke it by not even telling me the truth.”
She said as the Rider’s hands trembled.
“Bess please.”
He begged, his voice sounded devastated as the lady walked out of the circle and right back toward you.
“Daughter, you are accepted, and as such we will deliver you justice.”
She said as Elizabeth sniffed.
“Justice?”
She asked as the Rider grunted. Like a possession from a demon his form grew ridged as he choked. The breath in his lungs shortened as his body jerked past his control.
“It’s my favorite in all honesty you should’ve seen Juliette’s husband when he was called to dance.”
Carlotta remarked as another Sylph joined in.
“Oh no, what about Harriett’s! The pig left circles of blood on the grass by the time he was done!”
She said as you stared at them in confusion. You looked up to see the rider walking forward to the center of the circle. His breathing hitched as he moved unnaturally. It was as if the very air was controlling his every action.
You looked on in captivated horror. What was this what were they planning to do to him? Another sylph caught your expression before assuring.
“Sister, if you don’t want to watch, you don’t have to.”
The girl noted as you watched the Rider fall to one knee by the mysterious power that overcame him. His body hunched as he was forced low.
“Nrhnn…D-damnit…”
The Rider grunted, kneeling to the ground and raising his hand towards you, as if asking you to dance.
“One of us can get him started for you if you’d like.”
A girl mentioned as you blinked looking on completely dumfounded.
“Get him started?”
You asked a little taken aback by how whimsically morbid this whole ordeal became.
“My daughter, as of tonight you join our dance, you’ll be safe with us in the afterlife.”
The mother explained as you gulped at her words.
“No way! No, I have to go home! I can’t join you guys!”
You exclaimed standing up and moving away from them. Amidst your sudden movements your foot caught a fault in the grass causing you to stumble a little.
“What’s going on here?! Mind helping me out a little?!”
You asked turning around to face the Rider. Upon approaching him your presence registered to the magic that you were asking for his hand. He suddenly stood with gusto and began to dance slowly in gliding steps, it looked like a folk dance.
“Rhhrk B-Bess b- by accepting their haaah- heeelp you're asking them to j-join their dance for eternityy-hrrk!”
He yelped and struggled as he moved without warning or control. You stepped away from him looking back at the group before asking.
“Wait! Please I can’t join you and- is he really gonna dance until he dies?”
You asked the group nervously as they shrugged comically.
“Bess!”
He yelled as she spun to face him.
“What!”
You practically screamed.
“Think Bess! Erk! How c-can aahh! Someone like me even die- Aah!”
He attempted to explain before lunging down in his dance near the floor.
“Aaah! Da-mn! nrrghh.”
He growled as you backed away.
“Elizabeth, you're so funny, surely you planned this!”
Carlotta giggled suddenly appearing behind you. You pulled yourself away from her as you asked.
“What do you mean?”
Carlotta smiled tip toeing up to to you before holding you by the shoulders playfully. She raised both of her eyebrows at you as you lowered your in confusion.
“Sh-She’s saying I'm gonna be at this forever!”
He replied as you looked back at him bewildered.
“Well yeah I guess dancing to death has to take a long time right?”
You said nervously as he retorted.
“ELIZABETH I AM DEATH!”
The Rider baisically screamed as he glided into quick steps throughout the clearing. The act of which snapped you into reality. For someone like him, you just served him a death sentence.
“He’s going to be dancing forever! isn’t that funny?!”
Carlotta laughed, pinching your shoulders with her thin fingers. The act of which made you break away from her. You stepped away from her shaking your head.
“No I-... I didn’t think about it that way, I just thought you guys would help me escape. I didn’t know you’d do this to him.”
You panicked as the Rider continued to dance behind you.
“E-Elizabeth, listen, I don’t hate you! Rhgk- I-I get why you diiid this! Please find Misty and get out of here!”
He warned as you felt a chill run through your spine. You could tell by the ultimatum in his words that he wanted you alive. You feared at that moment that you had just made a huge mistake.
“Ch-Chose to deny their invitation and run!”
He yelled as you stared at the sylphs in a new found fear. The mother sighed before stepping forward.
“Don’t be so dramatic Rider, Elizabeth, you clearly need us, if you chose to stay then come home with us. But if you don’t then by all means try and run, but the other creatures of these woods will sense the Rider’s imprisonment and take their claim of you instead.”
She said gravely as panic set into your bones once again.
“No no I didn’t mean for any of this to happen I-”
You said before looking back at the Rider who danced at a maddening pace. Your eyes peered over at the sylphs who giggled and chatted amongst themselves. You were backed into a corner, your brain grew muddy with everything that was happening.
How do you deal with something like this? How do you make a close call decision when both sides are arguing plausible causes. You think back to something you heard in one of your corny mystery dramas.
“A good detective listens to every side of the story, under, above and below.”
Of course the protagonist was surrounded by hot men who were all under investigation for stealing from a manor but here. You were just surrounded by terrifying creatures of immortality. Still the saying held weight, more than anything you wanted the truth.
You reasoned that it was time for some answers, the Sylphs are an easy way out. Going by yourself would mean life or death without the Rider. So that left you with one last option.
“How do I make him stop?”
You asked firmly as the sylphs all looked oblivious and playfully ignorant to the question. Suddenly a shy Sylph from the back answered. Rising slowly to meet your gaze, she looked to be about 12 years old.
“You dance with him till morning.”
She said softly as the others looked at her in a quiet disapproval. Your heart broke at the sight of her. But you smiled and nodded.
“Okay till morning…how am I gonna do that exactly?”
You hesitated as the Rider peeped out.
“Bess! Rgh l-look!”
He yelped as his movements grew quicker.
“What?”
You asked, staring at him as he twitched his hand to raise and point to your body. You huffed your shoulders slumped as you groaned back.
“Yeah I know I'm still hurt! Im trying to figure this out oka-”
You scolded before looking down. Before your very eyes was a silvery white gown much like the Sylphs. Adorned with lace and a tulle skirt that stopped just below the knees. Looking down further your eyes caught yourself standing on pretty pointe shoes that glimmered in the moonlight.
“Y-you’re Rgnn- running out of time-”
He wheezed as you looked back up in shock before pouting.
“No. No Hell no, come here Rider we're doing this.”
You demanded marching towards him and away from the others.
“But if I dance with you, I expect you to talk you Caviar Caddie."
You quoted approaching the Rider like you were 7 feet tall. With the Sylphs to back you up it was time for the truth to spill.
“C-caviar? Is that contemporary for a liar?”
The Rider asked sheepishly, you felt your walls break. Your eyebrow twitched in that moment as you held your death stare. Damnit did you just quote the man manor outloud?!
“Forget I said that.”
You demanded through clenched teeth. The Rider raised his hand to you his breathing was heavy as he paused in a moment of stillness.
“If you say so Bess.”
He said between huffs of air. Condensation from his throat rose in the cold air as you gulped. You hesitated before stepping forward and placing your hand to his. That large gloved hand took yours ever so gently meanwhile you gripped with determination to get to the truth.
The two of you began to dance in slow awkward steps. Neither of you knew what you were doing but you were doing it. Two steps here and two steps- and you just stepped on his foot.
“Shit! Sorry!”
You yelped as he piped back.
“It's okay! Im okay dont stop on my account. How's your leg Bess?”
He asked as you realized in that moment the pain was completely gone. To your shock your feet felt lighter than air. Like you could do anything and do it forever.
You swiftly moved at his side a little more confidently than before as you answered.
“It's actually okay, probably from the Sylph powers or something.”
You reasoned before dancing with more confidence.
“Alright Rider, time to talk. When you left yesterday I read the book of the Beyond. Inside you left notes about…A Dullahan's mating culture, what the fuck is that all about?!”
You asked taking the lead in the dance as in that moment the Rider's breath stilled at your pointed question.
“They were notes I took from 150 years ago. But I respect you too much to do something like that to you.”
He explained as you scoffed.
“Really? How do you expect me to believe that? This whole ordeal of mine is pretty convenient for someone like you don't you think?”
You countered as the two of you took a quick turn. Your slow awkward dance became something more focused and ridgid. Like two middle school ballroom dancers rehearsing their choreography for the first time. It was synchronized but nearly hostile and uptight.
“I don't think of your situation as anything more than horrible Bess. Please you have to believe me I've done nothing but give you the time and space you need to-”
He explained as you shook your head.
“To what? Get used to your little cottage? Warm up to your quaint little life? You sent me into a false sense of belief just so I would marry you weren't you?!”
You asked point blank as the Rider sighed.
“Of course not! Now I admit those notes were odd of me, and so was my turn of absence from the house. But the fact still stands. I gave you space and nothing but kindness all so you could take your time to heal. Would you rather I stayed every hour of every day? Watching you like a vulture?!”
He said firmly as you two turned in the center of the clearing. The Sylphs watched on in anticipation as the mother crossed her arms.
“Maybe?! I dunno leaving me in a cottage all by myself was still pretty scary! Not to mention I barely know you and the first time we met you just took my hand in marriage! Couldn't you have just helped me escape?”
You fought back as his shoulders straightened. Suddenly his direction took a turn as he headed in your direction. You stepped back slowly at first but quickening in succession with his movements.
“Im a Dullahan, we don't take prisoners, or hostages. If there's a soul I am expected to reap it without consideration Elizabeth.”
His tone deepened as your name in his voice bit like a chill. You felt his hand grip yours as you shied away. Trying to keep up with his lead and the change in the nature of the dance.
“I- I guess so but that doesn't-”
Just as you tried to defend your point his voice rumbled through your body.
“I took you into my home without question.”
He spoke firmly, suddenly you found yourself being swayed by him. His body took the lead in your dance. His hand falling from your shoulder to the small of your back bringing you in closer.
“While you had every right to question the book and my intentions, it doesn't change the fact that you stole from me and put yourself in danger by running away.”
He said slowly, like a deliberation of punishment. You felt yourself nearly stumble as he began to over power you in the dance that turned into a tango. His arm supported you as he dipped you low before speaking.
“And I don't appreciate being held against my will for something I didn't do Elizabeth.”
Your eyes started to water as he held you in that dip for what felt like forever. You felt so small, you wanted to push away, but a deal was a deal you weren't going to give up. The two of you rose shortly after, nothing but silence followed.
You could hardly look at him without crying. But as your line of sight peered over his shoulder, the small terrified eyes of the girl standing between the Sylphs caught yours. She looked like she was about to cry as well.
Your face narrowed as you turned to look the Rider dead on. Tears began to well up and fall but you didn't care. You spoke like your life didn't matter.
“I did, because I don't know where I am. Or what I'm doing. But I'm going home.”
You sniffed as you stood tall. Your other hand gripped his shoulder as you took the lead once more.
“And I'm sorry I did this to you. I'm sorry I stole from you, and I'm sorry I didn't talk to you sooner. But after discovering something like that could you blame me? I'm just trying to survive. Try to be me for a second Rider, this is fucking terrifying.”
You said honestly as the two of you smoothed into more purposeful movements.
“I do, Elizabeth because in truth-”
His tone softened upon seeing the tears falling down your face.
“Do you really? Your strong, no one fucks with you, your a man, and you can command an entire forest, yet you understand? really?”
You say as he shudders at your words. His movements stop completely as you bump into him. Somehow past the will of this curse, he managed to stop. His hands adjusting to letting go of your back and moving to hold both of yours in his.
His hands are trembling again. He speaks like his tongue is made of lead and like he's about to throw up.
“I do because I was killed by someone like me. I carry the pain of knowing that, and the fact that before I died, it was a man who killed my sister at fourteen.”

You hissed to yourself as you began running, there had to be somewhere to hide, however your weak leg wouldn't carry you far so you scrambled for somewhere closer to hide. You looked over and spotted a deep section of brush. You hobbled down off the path down the small hill and into the bushes tossing the walking stick and sack into another bush before getting down on your knees and crawling deeper into the fauna.

The earth began to vibrate with every trot. You held your breath and listened to the sound as it grew louder nearing your section of the woods above. You clamped your mouth and nose shut with your hands your eyes closed in fear as you hunched into yourself.
“Elizabeth! Bess!”
His voice shattered the surrounding sound, it thrummed deep in your head. He sounded almost desperate. You felt a terror so deep that the simple act of breathing felt like you were giving yourself away.
Then just as quickly as it grew it faded as he rode down the path.
You let your hands fall as you gasped for air. You shook your head trying to snap yourself from the terror. Finally getting a grip you cautiously stood and peered up from the bushes to see the light dimming on the other side of the woods.
He was gone for now. But there was no telling if he'd stick around the area. You had to act fast.
The Horseman's Bride, Chapter 6, Ready or not, here I go.
Warnings: Tense scenes, depiction of impalement.
Chapter Synopsis: You begin on your journey to evade the Rider and find your own way back home. However, you come across some mischievous children's spirits. The goal now, get to the woods where it all began before the Rider can find you.
You had gotten ready in a matter of minutes. This morning, he had brought your clothes back in from drying and laid them next to your bed. So the first thing you did was yank his spare clothes off of you, and don your original outfit.
You slip on your shoes and give yourself a few paces without the crutches, your leg has healed a lot, but actions like running or jumping are still on the back burner. You stuff a few things like some food, bread, and jam into a pillow case. Finding a kitchen knife, you wrapped it in a towellette.
Walking out to the back you fly the shed door open without a second thought and grabbed supplies from there.
“Mouse trap? no…Uh trowel? Nope.”
His tree axe seemed to shinein the afternoon light. Tempting but you came to your senses almost immediately upon remembering yesterday.
“Hell no.”
After you were done gathering what you needed from the shed you made your way back inside the cottage where you rifled through his things. Upon closer inspection your eyes caught the sight of the book of the beyond on the shelf. Sitting there taunting you with it’s expanse of knowledge
Every part of you wants to take it with you but it’s hulking size and weight would be more of a set back than helpful. Even if it’s a guide to all the creatures out there you might come across, you had to forsake it. Sighing you walked away from the shelf.
“No I've got this, I have to try.”
You say to yourself as you secure the sack and sling it over your shoulder with a rope. You open the front door and the rush of the midday breeze washes over you refershingly. Walking out into the sun feels like freedom, closing the door behind you feels like an achievement.
Your eyes fix on the endless blue horizon of the sky above and the sun, oh how you missed the sun. You wish you could walk into it forever. No more monsters or headless men, no more doppelgangers or nightmares, just you and the outside with nothing to keep you.
Breathing out you set your sights on the large field ahead. Before leaving you look around before noticing a hefty branch in a pile of wood by the front window. Grabbing it from the ground you decide it’ll be your new walking stick from here on out.
Looking down the dirt path you see the prints of hoof marks litter the way down the long dirt road. If you walk in through the grass you can duck down below it’s knee high length and hide yourself. If you walk down the dirt path there’s no telling where you’d end up, and if your spotted by one of the rider’s ‘neighbors’ or even the Rider himself that could cause trouble so you chose the former.
Before entering the dry grass and brush you turn around one last time to look at the small cottage. Your realize in that moment, you’ve never actually seen the front of the cottage. Covered in moss and cobblestones, an old shingle roof, wood piles, a bench, and a stone walk way. The quaint little cottage seemed to bid you farewell as you took a deep breath before moving out on your journey, to never return.
After a good 20 minutes of walking and marching through the expanse of the feild you hear small voices giggling and laughing near you. Shit, there might be spirits in here, you think to yourself as you reach for your bag. You shuffle through it before yanking out the knife and holding it with your free hand before trudging on.
You walk ahead, baited breath until you hear one of them move in front of you, pausing in your stride you fly your knife infront of you and hold the stick with your other hand.
“Whatever you are, I don’t want trouble so stay back!”
You warn widening your stance as your met with a long unnerving quiet. The wind rustles the grass around you as a few seconds pass by with nothing happening. You swear your heart’s racing at a millions miles a second.
“Oookayy…”
You whisper to yourself, still on the alert, then suddenly a tiny creature jumps in front of you, your body flying into fight mode.
“Rahh!!”
It screams as you scream, you slash your knife forward as it moves out of the way before laughing hysterically. Panting you steady yourself before seeing it for what it is. It’s a small child wearing a fox head.
You stand still waiting for it to make the next move.
“What are you!? Are you here to take my soul or something.”
You ask a a matter of fact. Your face stern as not to show weakness. The very strange child begins to teeter on his heels.
“I wanna know what you're doing out here! Bride of the Rider!”
The little boy asks completely dodging your question. You blink, how does he know your the bride? Your ring glimmers in the light as your right hand shakes with the knife. goddamnit.
Then a little girl pokes her head out from grass side of the clearing. She’s wearing a sheep mask over her head. The sight of which causes you to jump from your skin and point your knife in her direction instead.
“You’re even prettier in person!”
She says in awe before walking forward. Her tiny grummy child fingers reach out to grab you. You aim your knife at her as she continues to reach towards you.
“Hey no no! Back off I’ve got a knife!”
You warn as the little girl steps forward. The boy walking up next to her as your backed into a corner, figuratively and literally. Back against the grass your only thoughts are to run or-
“We’re not gonna hurt you.”
The girl assures as the boy steps forward.
“And your not gonna hurt us.”
He says before walking right into the knife, driving it into his chest. You gasp and let go of the knife as you jump back. Yet there he stands perfectly still and unbothered by the otherwise morbid action.
“You want it back?”
He asks pointing to the thing now buried in his clavicle, you wince in disgust.
“Ugh…”
You groan unsure of how to answer.
“Quit being mean! Here you go miss.”
The girl scolds before ripping the knife from the boy’s chest and handing it back to you politely. You hesitantly retrieve it from the girl, smiling awkwardly as you put it back into your bag. Seems like any kind of defense tactic would be useless on these guys, so you stick to a more diplomatic tactic.
“Wh-what do you two want from me if you mind me asking?”
You ask as the boy shouts.
“Treats we smell treats! Is it in that bag?!”
You turn your head towards you bag then back at them and ask.
“I’ve got Jelly and bread is that what you want?”
You ask with a nervous smile. The kids stand quietly for a second, you hope that didn’t offend them or something. You move like your going to apologize before the two of them suddenly errupt into yelling and jumping.
“Yes yes!”
“Jelly! Jelly! Bread! Bread!”
They screamand bounce around you as you nervously look around making sure no one else is here.
“No no! Shh! Shh! Okay you can have some but I wanna make a deal first!”
You say as they pipe down scooting up to you scarily close before asking.
“What do we have to do!”
One chirps as the other jumps in place, you ponder a little before smiling deviously.
“Well for one you’ll have to listen to me because I’m playing…. Ugh… hide and seek! With that Rider! Yeah!”
You explain as they both perk up.
“And the finish line is the land of the living, that’s why I’m heading there in the first place, it’s aaaa…Wedding tradition.”
You explain as the two nod excitedly.
“That sounds so fun!”
The boy shouts hopping up and down.
“ I can’t wait to get married!”
The little girl says happily as you smile gritting your teeth.
“No you don't."
You hiss as the girl looks up at you.
“Huh?”
She asks before you cut her off.
“BUUTTT!! If he finds me on my way there I’ll loose the game! So I’ll need scouts to help me win, do we have a deal?”
You explain quietly as they nod excitedly, the two kids begin to lead the way in a completely different direction than where you were headed.
“Then follow us mam!”
The boy says before he and the little girl bound ahead, you begin to walk in tow behind them as your face droops.
“Ugggh.”
You face palm, you were going the wrong way! Thank goodness for these little gremlins.
“How are babies born?”
The little girl suddenly asks, the question throws you off entirely off guard. You grin awkwardly trying to come up with an answer.
“Uhh why do you ask?”
You ask as she giggles.
“Because! You're a bride isn't your job to get a baby after you get married!”
The girl laughs as the boy intercedes.
“You idiot babies can appear before a wedding too! Remember Auntie Stone.”
He says as she snorts.
“NO that was different! She found that baby in the river it doesn’t count!”
The little girl shouts alerting some crows up ahead. The flurry of black birds startles you. You quickly move to hush the pair and duck with them.
“Listen kids if this is gonna work you’re gonna have to stay quiet like scouts remember.”
You whisper to them as they cover their maws.
“Mhm.”
The girl peeps.
“Sorry.”
The boy whispers keeping hunched in. You look around before motioning with your hand to rise. All of you slowly rise and continue walking on.
The day drags on and you're sure the three of you have made it past the two hour mark. Time is really of the essence as the Rider has to know you're missing by now. The sun reaching across the sky leads you to believe it’s almost 3 as you all make it out of the grass and into a clearing you can see the forest up ahead.
“Alright you guys great job! We’re almost there.”
You cheer on as the girl skips.
“Oh oh! Can we have our treat now!”
She asks as you shake your head,
“Nope not yet, not until the finish line remember!”
You note as she nods before skipping forward and bumping into the boy who’s stopped in his tracks.
“Nelly.”
He whispers as she immediately stops and starts whispering to him. You lean over them trying to listen in before you hear a weird noise just out of sight. The girl moves away from Percy, hurrying to you she tugs on your sleeve and you instinctively duck to the floor.
“Is he here?”
You ask as the girl gets down next to you and nods silently. The boy tugs at his fox hide the thing like a magic act immediately covers him in fur until he hops down to the ground, he resembles a small fox kit. The fox like boy hops off into the clearing, the girl tugs for you to dip further into the grass with her.
“This is exciting!”
She whispers ason the contrary you stay dead still, your terrified eyes staying fixed on the sky. You feel your breathing hitch at the sound of a horse whineying far out beyond the grass feild, and a voice piercing the wind with a startling volume. The sound of which reverberates in your head like a migraine.
“Bess!! Elizabeth!!”
The rider shouts as you jump in terror a little. The girl looking over to you watches you cover your mouth in terror. She scoots closer to you and rests her head on your shoulder.
Your hand moves to pet her head as you feel tears welling up in your eyes. Please don’t find me, please dont come in here you beg in your mind as the sound grows louder. Then just as quickly as it grew, it disappears as the Rider ventures onward in his journey to find you.
“It’s okay he’s way out there and we’re way in here.”
The little girl assures you as you look over to her. Staring into her taxidermy eyes, you smile at her and nod while wiping your face.
“Yeah we are aren’t we.”
You say with a smile. Suddenly the grass infront of you two rustles and the fox comes bounding back. The very sight of which causes you to flinch, the girl giggles. The boy ducks his head low before he transfigures back into a human child crawling along the ground towards you two.
“He went south, he didn’t go into the woods so we should be good.”
The child informs you as you nod. You wipe your face before slowly standing. The two following your lead.
“Thank you that was really cool of you buddy. Let’s hurry on then alright scouts!”
You encourage as the boy and girl giggle with excitement. The three of you slowly rise as you hold onto your walking stick. All of you hurry quietly towards the entry of the forest, breaking free from the grass and out into the open.
Walking out into the clearing just before the forest it’s a bit daunting. The woods are a little further out. So it’ll take some time before the three of you could hide amongst the trees.
“Okay we’re gonna race to get to the woods, whoever gets there last will uhh eat the bread and jam last!”
You say as they jump in joy.
“Okay okay!”
The boy says jumping next to you the girl rolls her sleeves up and remarks
“I’m faster than him you know!”
She whispers as you nod, you stand in place with them getting ready to start running.
“But we have to run fast, are you ready?”
You say as the kids nod, you lean into a starting lunge.
“Ready! One two-”
You finish the boy cuts in.
“Three!”
He yells before running forward and the girl running behind him.
“I wasn’t readyyy!! Not fair Percy!”
The girl shouts running to catch up. You jog trying to keep up with those two, if you keep this steady pace you should be able to make it to the forest and out of the clear. But your ankle reminds you just how inhibited you are from really making headway.
The two kids like lighting ran ahead of you a little part of you worries but at least if your caught out here they won’t be. You breathe and jog, breathe and job huffing and breathing in a rhythm. You can make it Bess you can make it!
The unmistakable shapes of hooves pass your feet as you nearly stumble. Focus! Don’t dwell on it, he’s long gone, just keep going. You tell yourself like a Mantra.
Soon the two kids slow down with you, their tiny animal faces look up at you with pity.
“Lady your not really fast are you?”
The boy says as the girl asks.
“This doesn’t seem very fair.”
You huff and look down at the them.
“It is I swear but! hoof! S-see I almost broke my ankle a few days ago, huff, so I can’t r-really run but you two can!”
You tell them between puffs of air, the two kids giggle and jump into their animal forms bounding around you as you jog, you laugh as the girl hops beside you as a little lamb.
“Aha! Oh no! Watch out!”
You laugh trying to jog with them goofily jumping next to you. The boy laughs with the chirping of a fox and the girl runs ahead until the boy notices before running after her. You huff and refocus on your jog.
“Huff, c'mon keep going.”
You say as you look ahead, the forest is looking a lot closer. Looking behind you the grass begins to disappear off in the distance. You're actually doing it! You think to yourself, looking up to sky and that bright warm sun, maybe there’s a chance you can make it back home!
Eventually once inside the woods you slow to a walk and heave huffing for air after your jog. You spot a large rock and take a seat. Your chest is heaving as your heart races.
“Augh, okay that’s enough of that.”
You hiss out exhaustedly as the kids appeared below you.
“ I won by the way!”
The girl says as the boy kicks her with his paw.
“No way I won!”
He shouts as you laugh.
“Look I gotta take a quick lunch break can you two keep an eye out while I eat?”
You explain as they huff an unenthused, okay. You take out your sack and begin cutting a few slices of bread before smattering it with some jam. The two watch you with their mouths watering figuratively and more disturbingly literally.
Their tiny taxidermy mouths moving open and watering at the sight of your bread and jam. Are those really masks? Or their normal heads?
What’s up with this place and people’s heads?!
Anyway you stop your chewing and look them dead on.
“Okay no more being creepy, remember your on scouting duty still.”
You explain as they nod before scurrying off. You continue to eat watching them peer around the trees and shuffle through the bushes near you. The little girl while passing by you notes.
“Your alot nicer than our aunty stone you know.”
She says as the boy scoots over.
“Yeah you are! But like do you have an aunty in the land of the living?”
He asks as you nod.
“I do! I actually have a family too waiting for me in the real world.”
You explain as they peer up at you.
“Really! You're still alive out there?”
The girl asks as you nod.
“Yeah I’m pretty sure someone else is pretending to be me though.”
You say as the boy stops in his tracks and turns towards you.
“The Rider is gonna kill you isn’t he?”
The boy asks as the girl punches his shoulder.
“Shut up!”
She hisses as he hisses back.
“I’m just asking a question! If she’s already out there then why would he bother!”
You feel the food in your throat catch on the question. If he finds me, hell if he realizes I know the truth, maybe he’ll think I’m too much trouble to play house with. Maybe he will kill me.
You dread as your hands shake the two kids watching in quiet concern. The girl stands up and tugs at your sleeve.
“Miss?”
She asks as you snap out of it and choke.
“HRk! Rhhm!”
You hic, swallowing the lump in your throat before answering.
“I’m fine! I’m fine! And there will be no killing! It’s a wedding tradition remember, can’t win if you kill the only other…player.”
You half heartedly tell the two as they blink.
“Oh yeah guess that makes sense!”
The boy says as the girl kicks him
“I told you! They’re getting married idiot he isn’t gonna kill her!”
She exclaims as you sigh before continuing to eat your food. After a good 30 minutes of relaxing and taking a break, you pick up your things as the sun lowers further. The kids at this point are starting to look a little nervous.
“The way back to the living is up ahead but…”
The girl mentions as the boy chimes in.
“We gotta go home before dark but we’ll take you to the trail out of here it’s just up ahead.”
The boy explains pointing ahead as you nod.
“Let’s get moving then.”
You say before trekking forward with the kids looking around and sneaking in tow. The breeze flies through in a quick rush as they hop off into a grove as animals. It’ll be quicker this way they reason.
You start to speed walk just to keep up with their bounding. The three of you hurry through the woods as the light grows dimmer with the evening. Soon you all finally reach a clearing and to your surprise, an all too familiar trail, the trail you ran on the first night you ended up here.
“Oh my god this is it, am I really near the exit?”
You ask as the boy morphs infront of you back into a human as the girl follows suit.
“Yep! Just keep walking straight and you’ll win!”
The boy says happily as the girl jumps.
“Can we have our treat now!?”
She says excitedly as you smile, you reach into your bag and pull out the bread and jelly for the two of them.
“Have at it, you earned it.”
You say as they exctidley yanked the bread and jam from you. The boy popped the lid off as the girl split the bread with her fingers. They poured the jam on like syrup when suddenly their animal jaws opened wide.
You took a step back in shock as they chomping mercilessly at bread. Watching in silent horror yet intrguige as they ate with what appeared to be their false mouthes. It’s a shame you don’t have that book with you, it’d be great to find out what they were.
“Mhm! Thank you miss!”
The boy said between bites. When he began to feel bad. The girl looked at him as he hesitated before saying.
“ Actually miss, the truth is we smelled a human soul and thought to take you to our aunty.”
The boy explained as the girl hushed him.
“What?! She gave us treats we have to tell the truth!”
He said as the girl grumbled.
“Oh alright… He’s right we were gonna trick you. But she loves to eat humans and it probably would’ve gotten us ungrounded, please understand.”
The girl admits kicking the as your lips curve into a n anxious smile.
“Oohh I do! Yeah yeah! Don’t worry aha…She’s not here is she?”
You ask shakily, before the kids point to your ring.
“Nope! The Rider would have her head otherwise.”
“Your his afterall, like your bread we can’t take it unless you let us.”
The kids say as you feel oddly good about that statement. As long as these creatures stay convinced your his, you might just stand a chance. You kneel to the kids as you speak.
“I appreciate your honesty, thank you guys.”
You say as they nod, the girl leaps in and gives you a hug before the boy joins. Soon the two of them transform and bound off into the woods as you wave goodbye. It was nice having company but all that matters now is you sticking to the trail, watching your step and making sure the Rider doesn’t find you prematurely.
As you walk you swear you see all kinds of creatures watching your back. Striding through the path as quickly as you can you realize the shade of the trees lends to a loss in sunlight once that sun goes down. The advent of being on a trackable path doesn’t bring you much peace of mind either.
Even though your safe with the ring…hopefully you pray there isn’t some rule breaking creature lurking in the shrubs. Your mind starts to wander as you peer into the thicket of bushes and fauna. The Rider is also a very real threat at this point, what options do you even have if he shows up?
There was something though you’re trying to recall. Some kind of safe guard but you're having a hard time making it come to mind after the chaos of the two kids. As you walk you curse to yourself trying to remember what it was.
“Ugh! Why can’t I remember, I need something to remember what it was I could protect myself with!”
You say out loud before pausing, protect myself with, myself…self.. sylph, Sylph! The Sylphs! You perk up in joy, you remembered making the mental note to yourself. You supposed after all the excitement of the day the name of them slipped your mind entirely.
If the time comes for it and it will, you'll use them to your advantage. You breathe and remind yourself that you’ve got this, that there’s nothing to be afraid of. You’re Elizabeth Knoll and you're gonna get out of here, get back to Colton, find your body and kick that doppleganger out with whatever it takes!
But just as quickly as your courage grew, it faded as the last of the evening light dipped down from the woods. Pretty quickly you found yourself casted in darkness. The air was cold and felt like it was flying right through you as you trudged on with your walking stick.
You continued down the path set on getting home. Sure enough the odd rustle and crack had you turning your head, perhaps walking on the path was both a good and bad idea. But with the turn of night you reassured yourself it was the only and safety option to getting home.
You were going to get out of here no matter what. The breeze tussled with the dead leaves beneath your feet as you pondered. You focused on the ground watching the colorful leaves jump and dance past your feet before flying off in the wind as you walked ahead.
You looked up at the crown of pine above you. Every now and then the pink sky peeked back down at you as you sighed. You closed your eyes feeling the wind blow through your hair. You chose instead to change your pattern of thought.
You thought back to hikes with your dad who would always mess with you and somehow return home even muddier and messier than you. This was no big deal, you’ve been through crazier Elizabeth, beside you loved walking! Peanut walked all the time and everywhere his little legs could take the two of you. But now that your ankle began to heal faster you were here walking on your own two feet.
Everything was going at a smooth pace, and for once, you felt content walking all by yourself, but soon the sun dipped further down as the time drew closer to six. The leaves behind you rattled and shuddered with an awful sound. You looked down, pausing in your tracks before turning around to look behind you. Your eyes narrowed as you looked down the path, you saw a kind of glowing far off in the trees before the sound of clicking hooves grew clearer and rattled the ground around you, he’s coming.
Author's note: Happy (Late) Halloween and Happy Dia de Los Muertos, you guys!
I hope you all had a safe and wonderful Halloween Friday, and for some of you, a good time with family for Dia De! This time of the year has been a hard time for a lot of people, and I hope my story can send you somewhere different for a little while.
By the way, I encourage suggestions or links for warning tags to put on fanfic posts or stories. I can't seem to find any lists or instructions on how to write content warnings in my stories!
Other than that, have a great day, guys! And yes, even though it's November now, I fully intend to try and continue the story going forward!
