Young Sherlock and Contractual Obligations
I should shut up but I'm super inspired right now and literally nobody in my life cares about this show so here it is.
I reblogged this other post and had the most random thought, that Mycroft is the only person who loves Sherlock for who he is, without conditions and with annoyance that is really, licensed by someone who is the parentified older sibling, especially if that sibling is chaos incarnate and as Max Irons said (very rightly) in an interview, neurodiverse (so he's like that's my baby brother and he's not been burdened by anything I MUST PROTECT!!!).
I'm qualified to have an opinion on this because I too am older sibling that is very parentified.
Except arguably better adjusted than our sweet, traumatised dude. But still. I got the tea. I related so hard with every anxious thing he did. I was like omg same.
Sorry, back to the point, you'd be like hey wait, what do you mean Mycroft is the only person in Sherlock's life that unconditionally loves him? What do you mean??
Everybody has a means for Sherlock because Sherlock is especially gifted. Silas cares only for what Sherlock can give him, much like he did for Bea. James goes without saying (that dynamic is way too complex to encapsulate in a sentence but the only thing keeping James a womp womp is that he sees Sherlock as someone useful).
Yes, I spared a great deal of thinking. Cordelia loves Sherlock but she doesn't know her son. She's rightly depressed by her daughter's death and also, she's been drugged. She loves her son, but she doesn't know everything Sherlock comes with. She loves an idea. She adapts to the new information she's been exposed to regarding her son. But she still doesn't know him. She doesn't know the grievances, probably because Mycroft and Sherlock himself did not want to trouble their already grief burdened mother.
Mycroft knows Sherlock. He's annoyed by Sherlock's constant debauchery. But he loves Sherlock exactly the way he is. He likes how his brother makes his life difficult, challenges him, never turns him away and rather protects him at every turn.
He's dismissive of a hard and difficult situation, avoidance a trauma trait, but never of Sherlock himself.
He actually hears him out. He's consistently loyal (like when Sherlock was accused of murder, Mycroft was like him? That one? Yeah, right, dumbass), he's strong in his convictions and one of them is Sherlock Is Good And Must Be Protected At All Costs.
I mean COME ON did you not watch the ep where they're in Paris, post Sherlock getting shot?
That's exactly how I sound with my sibling. I love them to the point I'd burn the world down and they annoy the hell out of me but guess what. I like living in a world where they're in it. It's the best. I can't imagine my life without that scamp.
AND THAT'S MYCROFT. HE'S RAISED THAT BOY. HE'LL DO ANYTHING BECAUSE HE LOVES HIM WITHOUT NEEDING A REASON TO.
In conclusion, Mycroft is rad and cool beans.
