tbh I don’t think the writers have anything planned out for OW’s lore.

I mean let’s look at the stuff they needed to change so far:

They had to release 2 explanations for Tracer’s CA because the first one was wrong. It’s your own lore, how can that be wrong if you are the one writing the laws of the universe.

Same with the pictures where Chu had to admit that the ages were wrong like 2 weeks ago.

They also screwed up Mercys age since she was supposed to be 34 but then accidentally made her 37 but since it got featured in an animated short they just stuck with that. 

And we are still waiting on an explanation why Mercy was on that one picture with OW members when she wasn’t part of the organization at that time (theories exist but rn it’s a contradiction)

Mercy has a voice line @ Pharah where she says that Ana wanted her to follow in her foot steps, something we know is not true.

Los Muertos is supposed to be anti-omnic, yet in the Sombra origin video they have an omnic member?

and today I read an interview where Chu said that Genji was in OW before becoming a Cyborg but his official lore page explicitly states that he wasn’t part of the organization before and had their first contact with them when Hanzo left him to die.

I don’t really believe they know where the lore will go or that they have it really planned out tbh it seems like a big mess and there will be more contradictions - plot and character-wise, in the future. Especially since they need to be able to put more and more characters in.

I believe they make everything up as they go. I mean they cancelled First Strike just like that. It was supposed to be THE origin story. If you can cancel the base of your lore then the rest isn’t developed or planned out as well

this made me wonder what happens to like

the players who go godtier in a dead session

because, like, they’re immortal, and with everyone else dead there is no way they CAN die, because suicide is neither heroic nor just, so they will simply continue to reincarnate forever

until they start to go insane from lack of human contact and anomie

and although sburb keeps them from dying, i imagine that there’s some sort of degeneration going on, maybe every time they die they come back slightly wrong in some way, their speech becomes garbled and they slowly start to look less and less human or whatever

and eventually

inevitably

the only voices left for them to hear are the whispers from the furthest ring

because with all of the time in the universe, even prospit dreamers visit Derse eventually, and as the incipisphere ages the boundaries between universes start to weaken

and it’s so hard not to just give up and accept the invitation, shuck off one’s mortal bonds and leave the session for good, sliding into the many-tentacled embrace of the horrorterrors as your body fully degenerates into madness and lines of code, no longer yourself anymore

just a whisper of what once was but is no longer human.
