one time while watching star trek ds9 with friends i noticed a rock formation in rocks and shoals and was able to line it up on a discord call with the exact same rock formation present in the our man bashir cave. nothing is wrong with me. They call me rainman the way i am making it rain on these hoes and also due to the suspected autism, or whatever

I have my criticisms of it on a writing level but on a character level I not only don't mind but actively like the resurgence of Julian's feelings for Jadzia in late season 6. I love when he's miserable I love when he starts catastrophizing while in a bad mental place and - most important - I love that he has never gotten over anything in his life!

Alexander Siddig as Yousef in The Big Battalions, Episode 1 (1992)

A 26 (maybe 25 at time of filming) year old Alexander Siddig’s (credited here as Sid El Fadil) first major TV role and second major role of any kind (his only previous credits being as an unnamed party guest in an obscure film and as Prince Feisal in A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia), The Big Battalions aired on UK TV in 1992 and disappeared, never getting any kind of home video or streaming release and essentially becoming lost media. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of members of the Sid City Social Club and with the help of series writer Hugh Stoddart, The Big Battalions is now available to stream, for free, to UK residents (and, wink nudge, UK IP addresses generally) here on All4. This is the first time the series, and Sid’s performance in it, have been seen in 20+ years.

I love how Bashir just refuses to acknowledge or appease authority he doesn’t respect. He goes to see Tain, an extremely dangerous retired spymaster of whom he is explicitly asking a favour, and is as impertinent as possible throughout the meeting and doesn’t even try to hide his contempt when Tain says he wants Garak to suffer for the rest of his life. He gets chucked in solitary confinement while in a Dominion prison for protesting the guards cutting rations. And he snarks off Sloan while getting interrogated. He always puts honour and principles above self-preservation even when the consequences are or could be dire.

Thinking about how ds9 came out on the tail end of the AIDs crisis. How Garak and Bashir represent two very different types of gay men in that landscape: an older gay man who has watched so many people die, is riddled with guilt and PTSD; and a young man just finding himself, bright and full of hope.

How Garak looks at Bashir and sees everything the world has stripped from him: his ability to trust, his hope, his gentleness. How Garak has been forced to harden himself to survive. How he looks at all of Bashir's goodness and is terrified for for him. And how much of that is how I feel when I look at younger gays.

Anyway this is Garak.

this is so random but i love the way sulu always turns around to look at whoevers in charge when he gets nervous. its such a consistent thing its gotta be an intentional character choice either by the writers/directors or by george. they always cut to that angle looking at the viewscreen to show him doing it as well.

maybe he gets reassurance just from looking at the captain being all stoic and calm. maybe hes waiting for him to give a command. maybe he's just thinking "you seeing this shit??"

who knows. not me. but its just so. human. i love that every character in this show feels like a person with their own quirks and personalities.
