Dedicated to Hana and Lila.
Soft Armor, when clothes and life collide to protect and uplift. Adorning oneself in worldly items that imbue a feeling of confidence, a spirit of transportation and joie de vivre. When the fabric we choose is breathable and well made, soft armor. When the right cut of a blazer or the tailored pant finds a happy home on our bodies. When we step into soft leather shoes or the seemingly posture-lifting high waisted jean, and feel delicious. Soft Armor, when you feel good in the clothes you wear, it provides you with a wild poise and a sweet feeling of good self.
On Soft Armor.
The idea of Soft Armor first came to me from my friend, Lila Stowell, who used the words speaking of the potential protective and empowering ability of clothing. Lila is a woman who embodies the wild poise and supreme be yourself, cuz you must, attitude. Naturally, I think of her when I think of a special piece. The superficial sentiment may seem to enter here....clothing or jewelry as having powers. Ah, yet through history, we see clothes and jewelry worn with their magic, cosmic intentions. The tailsman. The amulet. The armor.
Lila has a balance with it all, and taught me that. Over the years, she lost or gave away treasures, never blinking an eye. The blue saphire colored amulet, the glimmering ruby red necklace, countless silk scarves, big wooly sweaters and t-shirts worn to perfection, all gone here or there. Many items given away by Lila herself, she holds to the saying, "if the cap fits, let them wear it." Detachment, friends. Curating confidence with the clothes you wear, yes, but also curating detachment. Constantly curating a way to let go, because you learn when you let go, what you most need often comes swiftly sweeping right back into your life again.
On Dream Catching.
This Dreamcatcher Chestplate necklace now travels with my buddy Hana, who dances. Straight dances. She is dance. She is the evidence and the reminder of the importance of moving your body, crucial to moving your mind. To move yo soul. Sol.
The Dreamcatcher Chestplate is another form of soft armor. A necklace consisting of six mini dreamcatchers, six more ways to catch your dreams. A reminder to let go. A way to filter the flyby madness and mischief of the world, and remain with you. Just you and your dreams. And the importance of following those dang dreams. Dreams caught. Dreams fought for. Dreams lived. Dreams come fukin true. They do. Go for it. What holds you back? Tackle that and...jump for it. Step towards it. Dream about it. Create that sh*t.
