lrb i think what makes the last of us series a good and not bad iteration of the Evil Dad Who Loves His Daughter trope is that the story argues that love is in fact not enough to absolve you of anything. #thethingsyoudoforlove invite the violence of others who themselves have loved upon you. even the ambiguous ending of the first game is explicit that the central father/daughter relationship continues to exist because it was forged in violence and preserved by a lie.
