listening to professional musicians who play your instrument is a double-edged sword bc you want to listen to world-class players to grasp what the ideal is and what you should strive for in terms of sound and to appreciate true mastery of the instrument but it also has the power to make you feel like a piece of garbage cosplaying as a musician
Les Compositeurs Russes: Borodine, Moussorgski, Tchaïkovski; Rimski-Korsakov, Scriabine, Rachmaninov; Stravinski, Prokofiev, Chostakovitch
Yea really.
I hope you’re a publisher
because this story is BOOK-length. #Schenkerian
if only classical music wasn’t 15 minutes long for each piece and didn’t have titles like piano concerto no. 2 in E minor op. 27 V : aglio olio peperoncino waluigi
Things I’ve Heard At Band Part 4 (I think)
“grace notes have no value”
“I value them”
B.d.: “That’s something I like to call an 1800s funky silence.”
B.d.: *addressing woodwinds* “You’re all *screams* but in reality you’re trying to be a harp.”
“GET OUT OF HERE WITH YOUR LATIN HYMNS”
“I soaked my reed in Dr Pepper.” *blows reed* “DeLiCiOuS”
“What are you, some kind of 19th century French piano expert?”
*to the tune of Circle Of Life* “IT’S A CIIIRCLEEE OF LIESS”
“This is a seductive ballad” *starts screaming*
*picks up phone* “wait what” *puts phone down* “he said my solo was bad and hung up???”
“go crawl into a hole and eat a pancake and maybe you’ll calm down”
“let me mourn the death of my reed in peace!!”
Guess who didn’t practice enough this decade!!!
haha.... no but really 👀
4th grader: *rubs drum head*
4th grader: is this a tortilla

Welcome to music school
Where tendonitis seems to be more infectious than the common cold
I love being a classical musician because you get to play all this beautiful music and pour your heart into it, but also because the hardest I’ve ever laughed was when I wrote “oop” after a pianississimo so it read “pppoop”
I got a callback WHAAAAT
*Before playing a piece by Shostakovich*
1st flute: I just can’t do it. I’m not able to play this bit. Just leave me here to die
Piccolo: come on, do it for me
1st flute: no
Alto sax: do it for the director. He will go batshit crazy if you don’t play your solo
1st flute: I don’t care
Piccolo: do it for Shostakovich!
1st flute: …
1st flute: ok
music major culture is standing outside your friend’s practice room holding a menacing face for five minutes and waiting for them to notice
