He thought they shared a life.
For as long as Wes could remember, he was always by his brother’s side.
From day one, the older twin felt the need to watch over the younger one.
To be the leader, teacher, and caretaker despite only being a few minutes older.
And although Wes didn’t have the most affectionate personality, everyone knew how protective he was of his brother.
How he would watch him no matter where they were in case the younger twin needed his help whether on his own accord or if someone else was causing him trouble.
And even though Wes would deny it
Or even claim how much of a burden it was to be the eldest
He knew Sammy knew his intentions despite his facade even though as the years passed, it was becoming difficult for Wes to read his.
Now that they were sixteen, Sammy no longer need Wes by his side.
He asked for his own room.
Changed his desk seat.
Made his own friends.
Left Wes behind for his own plans.
And soon, Wes realizes that after all this time -- his brother didn’t need him at all.
It was him who needed his brother.
And now finally being alone -- even though it was something he thought he always wanted
It wasn’t.
He was no longer a leader, a teacher, or a caregiver for his twin.
He was now the twin who has to follow his brother’s lead
He’s the twin who now has to learn from his brother’s initiative
Wes is the twin who is now being watched from afar by Sammy’s eyes even when he thinks his brother has left him entirely.
It was now time for Wesley Li to find himself and be his own person.
And this was probably the biggest burden of his life.
