Moving to a new location
I'm moving wet teeth to a new page because I can't make it my primary blog. Most of the already-posted content is now there. I'm going to leave this one up for a few days.

God that's awesome.
Melt of Feathers, 12" x 20", watercolor and ink on canvas board. This is a gift for my mother. It has taken me an ungodly amount of time to finish, largely because this canvas board, with its supposed watercolor-friendly gesso formula, was unbearable to color on. I basically had to drop loose, pigment heavy splashes and wait for them to settle, and if I used the slightest pressure on a following color layer, the underlying paint would come right up. All in all, I'm very happy with it.
Underwater there is amazing life, like this jellyfish with dozens of silver little fish among its long tentacles.

I've come to a major artistic decision
Last year, I studied Paul Jeanjean's Etudes Modernes, a 20th century set of 18 (if I'm recalling correctly, these things are always around 20) small solo flute studies which switch from being ethereal and extremely flexible for interpretation, to rigid and technically demanding.
From many of the etudes, I got small stories and ideas for paintings. I made my visual for the first etude in watercolor and gave it to my flute professor (who is one of the most important, amazing people I've ever known). I toyed with the idea of going further creating an entire set of paintings, one for each etude, and performing all of the etudes in an open art exhibition.
Now that I'm closing up some loose ends in my to-do list and becoming more consistent in my painting, I think I'm finally going to go through with my Jeanjean idea. It would take at least a year and a half to complete, I think, but it's really something I need to do. I can't let six years of intensive and accomplished music study and my bond between sound and visuals go untested. I keep wanting to find the thing to separate me from other artists and this might be it.
Wend, 11" x 14", watercolor and ink on cold press board.
I liked the design of the original drawing so much that I wanted to make a finer version. I wanted to be more adventurous with color.
