(Disclaimer I am often loud and wrong and I am not a Vriska analyst)

I remember a while ago seeing a post that discussed Humanstuck and Vriska and was critiquing how people, often youngsters projecting their dislike, tended to make Vriska this very Heather Chandler Popular Mean Girl type when her real interests were much more nerdy. Claims that she'd be the girl in DND club terrorizing new members. Which is cute.

But, I had a thought about that and it was like: "Well, she would be, actually." Because Vriska's whole thing early on is living up to the expectations put on her by a cruel world while acting like she doesn't have weakness and feelings about it. You're gonna look me in the eye and say Vriska 'I made your world completely out of stairs to make you get stronger' Serket wouldn't fold to the pressure teenage girls feel to confirm to an unrealistic standard?

She'd mean girl that shit up. Vriska is Like That because she's molding herself to the ideals of Alternia. That aspect of her character, the want to be the "hero" and the inability to accept that some people are fine with being losers, would absolutely translate through a human lens to lead to her being like- cheer squad captain and valedictorian. Or she'd try at least. I think she could do it. She's clever. But it would then blow up in her face pretty bad.

Vriska Serket is the girl who comes up with the most elaborate plan to steal the other school's mascot before game day and it is hardly legal and someone breaks their ankle going along with it. And she'd feel guilty about that but wouldn't let herself show it and say some shit like "Well it worked didn't it????????"

A humanstuck Vriska could absolutely still have niche nerdy cringe interests but like hell she's gonna let anyone Know about them. That's weakness bro.

also we have GOT to collectively come to terms with the fact that me or any other stranger online disliking or even making fun of something you like is not saying “no fun allowed” “no one can ever enjoy this” you have simply got to grow a spine and be able to like the shit you like. you don’t even have to defend it! like 90% of the media i really enjoy is divisive and half my friends actively hate it. i really don’t give a fuck though because i like it. you can write whatever you want! you’re allowed! even if it’s MY least favorite genre or style of writing and i have active distaste for it!

I'm still so mad about how Iron lung was completely eaten up by Project Hail Mary fandom. You can scroll through PHM tag and it'll have a bit of bloodymary content but mostly you can go through there without seeing it on every post. Go into the Iron Lung tag you see nothing but Bloodymary you can't escape it. You drown in the bloodymary. "So only use the just blood tag" I do and I still hate that we have to go into a subset of the tag because the MAIN MOVIE TAG was EATEN ALIVE by ANOTHER MOVIE. Your dialogue is stiff because everyone is being too honest

Great dialogue can come from radical emotional honesty. But in most real conversations, people

dodge questions

answer indirectly

lie (badly)

change the subject

crack jokes to avoid serious answers

lie (convincingly)

say half of what they mean

tell the truth but get so anxious/angry/defensive others now think they're lying

If your dialogue feels unnatural, it might be because everyone is saying exactly what they think, or articulating their thoughts too well. Try letting characters hide things instead.

Subtext is where tension lives.

Well it being black history month is reminding me how I wanted to doodle something like this down for a while. Since it’s been a lil detail I always take notice of in drawings. These are very simple depictions but I hope it’s enough to give the general idea! Feel free to reblog

Third row is an aged, finished scar. Burns are marbled in look. They're darker than the skin tone. Last row shows how a fully or nearly fully healed scar, it's lightly visible but still darker than skin tone. Right illustration is a torso with scars with a diagonal cut to show the difference between left and right side. Left has pink light scars, healing? Or just an oversight? Right has darker colored scars. Normal. Same applies to top surgery scars. For recent surgeries that alter the areola, it is pink as it heals (nipples are pigmented on dark skin btw so it’s a weird look) After full care and recovery they’ll look normal (dark).
