First like and this has already found its intended audience

If you have to be over 35 in order to be elected President of the US, then logically there should be an upper limit too. Say 70, maybe 75. The same could really be said for any political position. Honestly, the setup clearly needs to be that anyone who is retirement aged should ideally be retired, not 'leader of the free world'.
Politicians shouldn't be dying in office of old age or related illnesses.
Republican Senator Chuck Grassley is 92. He is six years older than the second world war. He has been an elected official for almost seventy years. He literally has a grandson, who has himself been an elected official for almost twenty years. Chuck Grassley should not be in charge of anything. Elizabeth Warren should not be in charge of anything. Mitch McConnell should not be in charge of anything. Clarence Thomas should not be in charge of anything. Bernie Sanders should not be in charge of anything. They can still mentor and endorse younger politicians, they can still be advisors or have other roles in government. Hell, they're all rich and well-connected enough to keep influencing things in other ways anyway. But they shouldn't be electable, as a rule. At a certain point, they need to step aside. They should 'want' to step aside. Even if they are still perfectly cognitive and capable of doing the job, that doesn't mean they should. But, of course, no one is ever going to be willing to pass that sort of law, because it means both parties would lose half of their seats.
Went to the grocery store with my kindergartener. We weighed some bananas: 2 pounds even. We weighed a watermelon: 4 pounds even. We weighed some mangos: a little over 1 pound. We weighed the watermelon AND the bananas: 6 pounds even.
“That’s funny” said the child “because 2+4=6 and two pounds and four pounds is six pounds. It’s like the same as math!”
“What happens if you add 6+1?”
“SEVEN”
“What if we put one pound of mangos on the scale?” <mangos added>
“IT’S THE SAME!!”
“OK, what’s 7-4?”
“Three?”
“What if we take the four pound watermelon off the scale?” <watermelon removed>
“Mama! Are you telling me math works In Real Life? Think of all the things you could measure!!”
I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD
Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️
Reblog to have your dashboard be visited by the spirit of joy that death can end but not erase.
Thank you to everyone who commented in their tags or messaged me. Indeed, today is “Martin and Bosco Day”. I originally whimsically blazed this photo on 13 July 2022. I never expected Martin and Bosco to travel so far and make so many new friends. The experience has been such a gift for me.
NOT THE CRABS WE EXPECTED BUT STILL SOME CRABS WE DESERVE!!!

"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
Thinking about how Glinda's skirts get progressively longer and more voluminous as the show progresses (not counting the bubble dress in NOMTW since that's out of order chronologically)
And the obvious reason for this is that it shows her maturing and gaining more status as the show goes on, but I wonder if there's also something to be said about her clothing becoming more cumbersome and restrictive. The bubble dress is heavy (I believe they tend to range about 12-15 lbs) and it's something that a lot of actresses complain about. Glinda in act 1 tends to have a lot of energy and very over-the-top body language. This is most apparent in popular, which varies between performances but usually involves a lot of jumping around, high kicks, even sometimes splits and attempted cartwheels. She loses this in act 2, both because she wants to project a more serious image as Glinda the Good and because she's just a lot less happy than she was in the first act. But there's also the additional fact that she couldn't do most of those things even if she wanted to, because of her clothing. The persona of Glinda the Good restricts her in a metaphorical sense and the clothing restricts her in a literal sense. She is physically unable to be as lively and expressive as she used to be. And I'm not sure this is intentional (there's also a broader point to be made here about women's clothing in general) but I think it's interesting nonetheless.
A lot of you on here sure don’t like the idea of making any kind of sacrifice for the benefit of others huh
Some of you act like doing minor inconvenient acts of kindness is equivalent to donating a kidney as if it’s not those acts that form our communities and make the world go around.
Return your grocery cart. If you’re able-bodied offer your seat to someone who is not. Help your friend move. Drive your sister to the airport. Make sure drunk people have a safe ride or walk home. Pet-sit for your coworker. Participate in a meal train. Volunteer in your area. That’s what friendship and community is about.
shoutout to the words "overmorrow" and "ereyesterday". english losing these words was stupid. "the day after tomorrow" "the day before yesterday" clunky-ass constructions. revolting. i'm bringing overmorrow and ereyesterday back in my idiolect and there is nothing you can do about it
do it grieving
do it while the ground falls out from under you; do it while everything you loved goes up in smoke; do it while the dream of your future is still burning embers around you; build anew on the hot ashes of everything you worked for; keep going, keep loving, keep living, even as all you want is to turn back (there is no turning back; it is gone already); do it through grief, which feels like fear in the body
do it grieving
The tag I have seen most often on this post is "I needed to hear this," and I am so, so grateful to have said something that was needed. These words came out of the depths of my own grief, and I am so grateful to have made this small connection with others in the midst of it. Grief is isolating and indescribable, but none of us are alone.
That said, these tags were what I needed to hear:
we're all gonna make it
it's okay if you can't see how yet. you don't have to believe in better. for now it is enough to just keep going, and eventually the path will emerge. you are not alone. you are not lost in the woods forever. keep going. I love you.
