yep. sokka is legitimately way too humble to realize the immense power he wields. if anything, he considers himself a glorified accountant/secretary for his friends.

out of the people who do know, I would say it’s split into roughly three categories:

people who are duly aware of just how much influence sokka has in the decisions and advances made in postwar geopolitics: zuko, toph, iroh, suki, azula, ty lee, mai, piandao, arnook, pakku (but he hates it)

people who think sokka is their cool smart friend who helps them out when they cannot solve a certain problem: aang, kuei

people who think sokka just fucks around all day reading and tinkering with his little machines: katara, sokka

This is actually a fascinating concept called the marginal propensity of consumption. It BASICALLY means that each additional dollar to a poor person (Like someone on minimum wage) is comparatively more valuable than each additional dollar to a wealthy person (like a millionaire or billionaire) because the poor person is more likely to go spend it on a good or service whereas the wealthy person will stick it in an offshore account.

With the poor person, it will continue changing hands within the economy and get spent more often, leading to higher economic output. The wealthy person takes that dollar out of the economy by sticking it in a bank account to grow their wealth, and the dollar effectively becomes useless and stops changing hands.

When my uncle finally divorced his abusive wife and became a bachelor again he was like 55 and already used to wearing dad attire. Anyway so that year at the big family camping trip my aunts were trying so hard to hook him up with their friends but he kept wearing this sweater with a kitten in s hammock that said “beach bum” on it. And every time they saw it they’d say “Wear a nicer sweatshirt Stan!” And he would just earnestly reply “This IS a very nice sweater!”
