When Zheng offers him revenge, he sort of half-heartedly agrees with 'yeah I suppose I wanna kill that guy', and that half-heartedness comes from the fact that he's not feeling it. He's feeling SAD, he's feeling GRIEF, but rather than quashing them under the boot of anger and violence, he's letting himself sit in those emotions and FEEL them, properly.

there was an interview i read today (i’ll try to find it again) where djenks talked about why he ended s2 the way he did with Ed and Stede. s1 ended incredibly sadly (sure Stede knew what he feels for Ed is love and had left everything to find and be with him, but Ed’s ending—as we all saw in gorgeous detail—was the complete opposite) and he didn’t want to end s2 the same way bc he was made aware after s1 just how horribly we queer people have been treated by media. he was unaware of the rampant queerbaiting and burying your gays in other shows until we pointed it out to show just how different ofmd is, and he remembered that and made sure that s2 didn’t end sadly bc of that. he wanted to end it on a high note, to make up for not only what we’ve been through for years but also what we went through after s1. he is aware of the problems. he emphatically and purposefully wrote away from them. so to say he’s queerbaiting bc he killed one queer person on an entire show of queer people is sending the wrong fuckijg message to a guy who’s trying to show that our stories are just as worthy of a happy ending as cishets

be sad izzy died!! that’s what you’re supposed to feel!!! but it is not problematic and it is not queerbaiting. izzy died with dignity and respect but it was not 1) in vain or 2) a writing decision that deserves the vitriol djenks has received for it (to the point that, afaik bc maybe he did this ages ago and i’m unaware—im never on twitter—he would turn off twitter replies to stop it)
