Today marks the 37th year after Christine Jorgensen's death

Today marks the 37th year of the passing of trans pioneer and celebrity Christine Jorgensen. Jorgensen was famous in the 1950s due to her public transition, including her successful sex reassignment surgery in Denmark. For many, she was their first nod to the possibility of changing your sex/gender. She was also able to advocate for the better treatment of transgender people in America. Notably, Jorgensen considered herself to be transgender, not transsexual.

Jorgensen published an autobiography, Christine Jorgensen: A Personal Autobiography, which sold almost 450,000 copies. Relatively unsuccessful as an actor, she worked in nightclubs as a singer and performer for most of her life.

i support universal free healthcare for one simple reason: if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness you should quit your job. quitting your job is the correct response to terminal illness. but you can’t do that if your healthcare is tied to your job
