What a strange concept. Connection. They understood it, at least on a surface level, the same way you are able to read the definition and understand the words. But never the feeling.
How could they? When they had been treated like objects, property. That is what they are, Property of Fazco.
They are not popular, not even with the children. They are not like Glamrock Freddy, who lights up a room with his presence. Or like Roxanne Wolf, whose cool aura attracts attention from a mile away. They do attract attention, but not the same kind. Sun is annoying, controlling. Moon is creepy, unsettling. At least that is what people say. They are not sure what they are doing wrong.
What a strange concept. Connection. They had never felt it. Never been understood. And no one had even cared enough to try.
Sometimes, they couldn’t take it. How could you look at them, right in their optics, and say they were lovely? How could you look at them with a smile, a real, genuine one? Not the shudder or disgust that seemed to be the default while looking in their direction. How could you ask their opinion? They are not people, yet you treat them like they are. Why can’t they get enough of it?
It’s mortifying, almost. Yet… they can’t seem to let go of how sweet it feels, now that you’ve given it to them.
((A/N: I have so many, many thoughts like these for the DCA. Enough so that I have given in and begun writing a full fledged fanfic about it. The AU would be called “The mortifying ordeal of being known” because I feel it is fitting. I’m still debating whether it’ll be good enough to post, though.))
