“Dear Comrades, I will try to speak in English. Unfortunately, I wasn't colonised by the English! First of all I would like to say that it's a great honour and pleasure for me to be here tonight. I call you 'comrades' rather than 'brothers and sisters' because if we are brothers and sisters it's not from choice, it's no commitment, but if you are my comrades I am your comrade too and that's a commitment and a responsibility. Tony Gifford told you that I'm a great revolutionary. It's not true. I am a simple African man, doing my duty in my own country in the context of our time. My comrade Ron Phillips said that I am his hero. We have no heroes in our country - the only heroes there are the African people. I would like to say that I haven't come here to teach anything. I have already learnt a lot from the speeches made by the comrades before me, and I have also learnt of your moral and political support for our struggle. Through you we would like to salute all anti-colonialist people in this country, regardless of their tendencies or origins. In politics one has to be realistic, going step by step, and we think it is essential that people wishing to act in solidarity with a movement such as ours should be united. Without unity it is not possible to give consistent moral, political or material support. We would like to salute, in particular, the workers of this country - white workers, black workers and intellectual workers as well - and tell them that we expect from them the strongest possible united front in the struggle against colonialism and neo-colonialism in Africa. Perhaps from this experience will come unity for new struggles in their own country. We would like to salute also the young people and students who represent the force of progress everywhere. I would like to salute all anti-colonialist women, and tell them that one of the principles of our fight is that our people will never be free until the women are free as well. I think that the non-African people here tonight will understand if I address special greetings to all Africans present, and all descendants of Africans, calling on them to be aware of the struggle in their own country, and of their particular situation wherever they are.”
Speech made at a mass meeting in Central Hall, London, on 26th October 1971.

Concerts will have you staring at the taller person infront of you and thinking Why were you born? Why? Why? Why?
went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks dont mine the deep’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning
And I worked with a man called Squidward. And he was a Protestant man, but we were the best of friends. But by God, he was crabid as a bag of cats. He was an auld grump. And he'd be big into the flutes and the Oboes and things like that. He lived in a big stone head.
you really do have to watch the video, it's everything
Every single empire in its official discourse has said that it is not like all the others, that its circumstances are special, that it has a mission to enlighten, civilize, bring order and democracy, and that it uses force only as a last resort. And, sadder still, there always is a chorus of willing intellectuals to say calming words about benign or altruistic empires, as if one shouldn't trust the evidence of one's eyes watching the destruction and the misery and death brought by the latest civilizing mission.

The worst types of cookbook:
The Ottolenghi - it is vital that you use 1g of this very expensive ingredient. It comes from a 500g bag with a one-week shelf life.
The time machine - 15-minute recipe! First, leave to marinate overnight...
The dishwasher - one-pot recipe! Now decant your ingredients and wipe out your pot. And again. And again. And again.
The optimist - cook the onions until caramelised (2 minutes).
The kindergarten teacher - get one nommable little tree of broccoli and bosh that into boiling water. Delish!
The brand names only - ingredients: Ritz crackers, Philadelphia cheese, Cool Whip, orange Jell-o...
The 1950s palate - use one (1) clove of garlic and a small pinch of chili flakes (omit if preferred).
The why bother with a cookbook - to make beans on toast, gently heat a tin of beans and put on top of freshly buttered toast.
#the overachiever: make this very time consuming ingredient from scratch even though it'll end up tasting worse than store bought
Amen to this @akasanata. "Now make your puff pastry from scratch". How about no❤️
I'd die so fast in the iwtv universe everyone keeps insisting louis is much more dangerous and evil than he seems but I'm twirling my hair every time I see him. like sorry if helen of troy wants me dead then I guess that's my fault!!! he caught me slipping!!! be nice to him about it!!!
since most viewers don't live in or visit houston, this is the rothko chapel, the place armand guided daniel to:
it's just dark mark rothko paintings and it's free to visit
You are describing a hero BBC, he just wasn't a cartoon saint:
"[Robin Hood] wasn't noble at all, but a yeoman, a rung above a peasant...and while he was perfectly nice to the poor, helping them was not his main purpose. His enemies were the corrupt clergy and the land-owning nobles who took advantage of their underlings."
Robin Hood began as an oral tradition in the 12th Century before morphing into a heroic, family-friendly stereotype – here's how new takes a
"he wasn't a rich person stealing from other rich people for charity, he was poor and attacking the people who kept people in poverty!" okay so basedbasedbased
HAPPY FOURTH OF FUCKING JULY
she wanted to say yes,
still so enamoured with the way iwtv vampires are attracted to ageing bodies - it makes sense, logically, because our tastes all change as we age, but vampires are So Often depicted as being obsessed with youth and teenagers (most often because casting directors and writers want the actors to visually match in age, even if the characters have a 100+ year age gap), so when louis in season 1 episode 1 smiles and says "you've gotten old" to daniel, and in season 2 episode 5 he says "do you want to (have sex with me)?" to daniel, and in the vampire lestat, when lestat's eyes linger on gabrielle and daniel, and when armand cant even read minds because hes so infatuated with daniel, it hits! it hits like crazy!
it was love
